ALL REAL EVOLUTION ( i.e. varieties of dogs, cats, etc.) is the expression, over time, of already existing genes. Evolution is possible only if there’s information (genes) directing it. Only variations of already existing genes are possible, which means only limited evolution and adaptations are possible. NOT ALL EVOLUTIONISTS even agree on the fossils used to support and reconstruct human evolution. The bones are incomplete. There's no certainty of the bones belonging to the same creature. They can reconstruct whatever they want from these bones, and they have. There's no hard evidence that humans evolved from an ape-like creature anymore than there's hard evidence that apes evolved from a four-legged dog-like creature. APES ARE QUITE COMFORTABLE IN HOW THEY WALK, just as humans are quite comfortable in how they walk. Even a slight change in the position of a muscle or bone, for either, would be excruciatingly painful and would not be an advantage for survival. There's no hard evidence that humans evolved from ape-like creature anymore than there's hard evidence that apes evolved from four-legged dog-like creatures. Your concepts seem very zen like - I suggest reading some Alan Watts, you would like him as an easy intro. If a better theory is developed, I might accept that (but the chances of that happening are near zero). I think we should dump the word god and retain spiritual truth. As a scientist, I have my reasons - I have asked hundreds of theists for any evidence at all for their god(s). None has given any I could publish in a scientific journal. I am aware of basic science and so know that no gods lurk anywhere as far as we know. So I don't believe the stories. A child doesn't believe because they have not been indoctrinated.

@Noyes654 i don't think that one works as well. when you go to get ID you can often list "bald" as a hair color and some idiots actually think it is a hair color.... having "off is a TV channel" i think really gets the message across more clearly. but you are right in that many forms atheism is listed under options for religion.

So if religions were like a box of chocolates, atheism would be reading the calorie intake and ingredients information on the bottom of the box and then heading off to the gym?
