  • I'd kill for 1975's "high food prices".

  • Blech...my Dad used to eat those.I tried one once and almost puked.

  • These things actually had to be cooked in the oven, so they automatically tasted better by default.

  • I can't believe my mom actually fed us that shit.

  • I grew up on these things. I thought they were gross back then.

  • .85 cents in 1975 is the equivalent of 3.58 today in 2011

  • i would go back in time lol

  • .85 scents are you fucking serious??? that looks soo good...

  • Without a doubt these meals tasted tremendoulsy better back in 70's and 80's than they have in the last decade or so.

  • @ntxguy But because a bunch of rats died in a lab they took out all the stuff that made it taste good.

  • Ha! I wish that entire meal would cost me 2 dollars!

  • God I LOVED those back in the day. Not THAT far back... but 80s anyway. lol

  • I never tried the older ones but I want to.

  • 0.85 for a TV dinner? R U serious? I wasn't even born when this came out but dang, can we throw it back to them days?

  • i eat hungry man dinners at only 2.78 a box

  • i remember the foil trays...pre microwave days...now you throw em in the microwave and nuke em for a few minutes....last dinner i bought was like 5 dollars !

  • I loved these things back in the 70's, when they had the foil tray, and you baked em in the oven....they werent bad. But i don't care for em any more, especially nuked.

  • 70s high food prices haha

  • Now they are five times as much and loaded with sodium.

  • @43cdc They were loaded with even more sodium back then. They just weren't required to tell us that on the label.

  • @jsharp1 OMG even back then they was slowly killing us and I love tv dinners to, no wonder I feel sick.

  • i been enjoying them sence then til now.sept now they give necks which i not enjoy at all. They promised better then that.

  • You can't even get a CANDY BAR for .85-- 40 years later!

  • 2 DOLLARS AND 50 CENTS LOL

  • That chicken doesn't look so good.

  • WTF :| Even if it was $2.50 for all that its cheap for now a days :|

  • why are the called TV dinners?

  • Omg, I do remember that silver foil tray!

  • TV dinners were an obsessive compulsive's dream with those little compartments! It was like an American bento box, only instead of sushi, rice and other lovely things, this was a tray of absolute pure and total crap! And I loved all of them. :)

  • some things are good in tv tray form but not fried chicken or anything crispy!

  • You can clearly see him reading the script. -_-

  • what a trip, i was looking to buy some "swanson" t.v. dinners last week when i went shopping. but i didn't find any :o(

sure wish you could still buy these swanson brand t.v. dinners again!!!

  • Wow, 85 cents for that back then? You truly could get more back then. I mean look at a Taco at Taco bell.....89 cents today for just one,ha,ha!

  • You retards that post off topic need to be on Jerry Springer. Then you can tummy punch each other.

  • Cool flame war guys. Can I join?

  • I miss those metal foil trays. I was brought up on those.

  • It's about $2.99 here in Milwaukee, WI now. It's also just one chicken patty, very few mashed potatoes and very little corn. What a rip-off.

  • @themostrandomchick24 Wait you still have Swanson's in Wisconsin we don't here in Michigan even since 2002. you better hope Gov Walker doesn't find out or he'll get rid of that next ?

no but seriously both Our Governors suck there Soul Less Puppets for the Rich......!

  • @METALMAN4Wii -LMAO! You never spoke the truth better, dude! *high five* XD

  • @themostrandomchick24 I'm pretty well known on the TYT Videos So I know how Corrupted the Right can be.....!

  • @METALMAN4Wii It isn't just the right, it's the left side also. both sides have their own little minions (demos and neo-cons) who have nothing more than corporate interest as their own interests who are bought and paid for. Simple as this, Follow the money and one will find their answer. Who don't give a damn about anyone or anything other than the money they put in their wallets in their own back pockets !!!!!!

  • @sr71ablackbird I know we have some people on our side as well who are bought and we try to vote them out. but it seems the whole Right side serves the Rich even Ron Paul voted for Tax Cuts for Oil Companies which doesn't surprise me after all he's a Republican.....!

  • @METALMAN4Wii it isn't just about the oil companies, it's for cutting taxes for everyone, why do you think he wants the Federal Reserve audited ? It costs about 3 cents to print any denomination of a dollar whether it be a 1, 5, 10, 20, or 100 bill, and then they are sold at face value to the gov't at interest. It has NOTHING about being a republican, he's a constitutionalist. If you read a book called the Creature from Jekyll Island, then, you'll know what I mean.

  • @sr71ablackbird BP Oil doesn't need a Billion Dollar Tax Cut to Drill there going to do that anyways. that's like giving a drug addict money to do crack ? but he's Right about the FED it needs to be Regulated and guess who's for Regulations the Left not the Right. that's why I'm Voting Anthony Weiner if he's Running in 2012 because Obama is a freaking Sellout.....!

  • @METALMAN4Wii This doesn't have a damned thing to do with oil or any other crap like that. It has to do with the federal reserve itself (who is about as federal as federal express is. Not only that, I sure as hell did NOT vote for Obummer

  • @sr71ablackbird It all leads back to the Greedy Corporations Pulling the Strings. they Print the Money and then they want it back thru there huge Tax Cuts. after already causing huge Inflation by Printing Money like it Expires.....!

  • @METALMAN4Wii What tax cuts where there are no tax cuts to begin with, look at all the corps that outsource their employment to other countries. They keep their money across seas tax free, as for the printing of it, I already told you to read the book, The Creature from Jekyll Island.

  • @sr71ablackbird The ones like Bank of American who paid Absolutely No Taxes Last Year Thanks to Deregulation. also I've watched every Movie about Inflation and the Government on Youtube and Netflixs. plus im part of the TYT Army believe me I know about Corporate Greed.....!

  • @METALMAN4Wii well, kiddo, NOT everything IS on the movies on here, nor NETFLIX, if you rely on netflix for your history, you sure as hell were not born in the 1960s as I was and this generation is worse off than I first believed, and being a part of the TYT Army (whatever in hell, that is) doesn't mean anything to me . Documented facts do, such as docutmentation, So, get your nose out of the screen here and start reading reading actual bills and laws being passed !!!!

  • @sr71ablackbird Well im Smart Enough to Find the Fatal Flaws in Ron Paul's form of Government. like how he saids No Big Government and let the Free Market Work. then saids companies like BP should be held Responsible if they Screw Up ? well if there's no Government on there ASS's there not going to Pay what they should it's not Profitable for them. anyways im busy moving right now so I don't have time to debate you. but you should type in TYT on Youtube there's plenty of people like me there.!

  • @METALMAN4Wii well, eventually, not that smart, that's for damned sure. Like I stated before, get your nose out of the screen and start reading. Preferably 3 documents, The Constitution of the United States, The Declaration of Independence, and The Federalist Papers and while you are at it, find Training Manual No. TM 2000-25 that describes the difference between a Constitutionally-limited Republic of which we are as opposed to a "Democracy" of which we are NOT!!!

  • @METALMAN4Wii If you read those documents that I had listed above, then you would know exactly what Ron Paul's intentions are!!!!, not this so-called "Fatal Flaw" crap as you so put it. One does NOT need "Big Government" to guide oversight for corrupt business practices. START READING !!!!!!!!!

  • Haute cuisine for the divorcee

  • W couldn't afford a bunch of tv dinners back in the '70s to feed our family. My mom fixed Hamburger Helper or made spaghetti

  • Don't forget the tax

  • My favorite was the chopped sirloin beef dinner:

    *corn

    *mashed potatoes--and corn

    *chocolate brownie--and corn

*seasoned, flat, hamburger/meatloaf-hybrid patty in gravy-- and corn.

  • i wish my hungry man cost 85 cents

  • jeez we just get 1 or 2 chicken, a small portion of mash potatoes, and some corn for $2 - 3 dollars.

  • now it is 3.00 and taste like crap

  • its 3.50 now..

  • see now, that meal would cost 2.50 x 2 :D

  • Processed food has trouble being digested.

  • TV dinners give you cancer. Microwaves contain carcinogens. Radiation and such.

  • @ToxicOdiousOne everything gives you cancer these days. Biggest cause right now is all the non food products in our food. The growth hormones in alot of our foods are probably one of the biggest causes for this. What is cancer? Overgrowth of cells basically.

  • 1975 high food prices?!

  • Funny

  • lol food in the ads never look as good as they do in real life XD

  • WTF 85 cent... i'm going to build me a time machine..... shit rite now tv dinner cost about 3.95

  • I don't seem to recognize the shape of any of those pieces... lol

  • High food prices?! If only we could go back in time and tell him how much food costs today.

  • Should I be worried that this meal looks appealing to me?

  • @MattTheSaiyan Just ease up on the weed a bit

  • i like the way he describes the chicken. YUMMY!!!!!!!

  • damn!!!!

  • Thats when a swanson tv dinner was good ...today it tastes like crap

  • @bjroberts65 hungry man is better!

  • @LTRules21 Hungry man is made by Swanson.

  • @bjroberts65 LOL, i think most processed foods of today are crap.. and the serving size sure is alot smaller than in those days.

  • 85 cents :0

  • I love this! "The more detergents, the softer the hair! lol

  • 2.00$ for a meal like that would be epic!

  • i never buy pot pies. they hardly have any meat and you have to burn the upper crust to cook the bottom crust thoroughly.

  • today that same thing costs like $5.00 !!!

  • For many years my late Grandmother (God rest her soul) basically lived on Swanson tv dinners. She would buy a weeks worth at the store and that is what she had for dinner almost everynight. This was back in the late 1970's early 80's. Once in awhile she might cook a regular meal or we would have her over for dinner but she insisted that a Swanson dinner filled her up and she did always have a bowl of cereal with a cup os Sanka instant before bed.

  • @bigkellyr Great memories!

  • but the timeless fact is that these foods aren't always as good as if you've cooked the real thing...

  • i want onee!! + i love old adds!

  • It should have said SOMETHING! in the divorce decree about TV dinners, but nope I've been withering away for years now. I especially like the Michaelina's sweet and sour chicken- just $.099 and only 2.5 grams of fat. That and 3 $.32 Kroger ( store) brand yogurts and a $.50 Payday bar and I'm set. I would like a honey to cook for.

  • I remember eating these! Some thing taste so terrible, they stay with you forever

  • That's Frank Garner from Dark Shadows !!

  • Banquet meals are only about snack-size for 88 cents at Wal-Mart. This "Swanson" is like a "Hungry Man" size meal today for about $3.

  • well money was worth more that time.

Hence even a certain times comic books costed a penny and a hotdog costed a 5cents

  • Where did you find a Banquet meal for 88 cents! I bought a Banquet meal at the supermarket, cost me $2.79!

  • In the frozen food section at the Wal-Mart superstores. I hardly don't shop in regular food stores no more.

  • Man! I'd better get to a Wal-Mart, I can.t believe they have them for that price!

  • I went to Stop and Shop last saturday.... enjoying a delicious turkey meal.... mmmm... only 250 calories :)

  • Yeah! It seems you get less food today in those dinners than you did back then in the 70's. I remember Swanson had turkey dinners with stuffing, a cobbler ( for desert ) a full side of mashed potatoes, etc. And the turkey meat was a lot larger in those days and only 79-89 cents! Now you pay almost 3-$4.00 and less portions today! It seems you really get cheated on these meals.

  • Well who would have thought 40 years later and one

    1929 style economic meltdown

    Thats is one fine

looking dinner to a lot of people today.

This is what the banksters should be eating

    in prison every day.

  • @brotherjupiter That's too good for them I say the eat only stale Bread in Jail and the Bank Robbers get the Hungry Man TV Dinners.....! ( That Swanson's now I think ? )

  • @brotherjupiter Double like for writing it Ginsberg style.

  • Interesting Comment!! Banksters and other fools doing time in prison should be fed fried chicken, mashed potatoes and grayv, peas and carrots, and peach cobbler in today's world ... with skim milk.

  • wow that looked totally unedible :(

  • 85 CENTS ? ! ? !

    that's outragous ! ! ! !

  • The dessert looked like pressed together vomit

  • ROFL!

  • Wow, that's the guy from Dark Shadows, Conrad Fowkes who played Frank Garner from the 1966 season.

  • Ironic that now in 2009, it DOES cost two dollars. lol

  • Oh, and you only get ONE piece of chicken today (a lousy thigh, which is mostly just breading over bones).

  • @mhirtes12 yeah I was wondering I was like O.O 2 to 2.50 is like today's price... for those dinners

  • @mhirtes12 it's 3.89 at my store :(

  • @mhirtes12 If it's on sale regularly it's about $3,50 but Swanson's is no more.....?

  • @mhirtes12 Well, prices don't always remain constant. :) You and I both know that in the future everything will go up. I wouldn't call it irony.

  • that's when they were good....today they taste like crap

  • These were fairly aweful. Consistent, but aweful.

Did anyone ever eat a Swanson or Banquet Chicken pot pie without burning one's tastebuds off? It was culinary napalm!

  • My god yes!

  • How did you get this commercial?

  • 2 for 7$ sometimes at raley's, lol! gotta love inflation.

  • I remember as a child, wanting this in the store and my mother wouldn't buy it.

    Thanks for the post!

  • she knew

  • Wow... only a 15 cent increase lol

  • I remember those things tasted like total crap and took about an hour to 'heat' in the oven

  • those Hungry Man dinners are incredible though.

Buffalo Chicken, Fries and and Brownie

and it actually tastes freakin amazing.

Although I read the nutritional info, and you actually get 105% of your daily intake of salt in just one serving....sodalicious.

  • Ironicly those meals now cost more then 2.50

  • That's not ironic.

  • Thanks, 'melanie'. Incidentally, "85 cents", I believe, was Swanson's "suggested retail price"; Grocers and supermarkets could sell those dinners for as little as 75 cents, or as much as $1.29 (depending on where you bought them, including "special sales").

  • .69 cents on sale

  • damn, 85 cent? whatta steal, i'd kill one of those every day!

  • OOOH. The thought of eating out of aluminum trays again, yuk. Makes my fillings ache just thinking about it. It made your fork taste like the foil...

  • the aluminun trays were better than the microwavable junk they put out now

  • @zeporahjane1966

Hey! I think TV dinners actually tasted BETTER when baked in an aluminum tray! All you get these days with a plastic tray in a microwave is STEAMED chicken, eraser chunks disguised as carrots, and mashed potato slush.

  • @mhirtes12 LMAO at eraser chunks and mashed slush...

  • @mhirtes12 your comment is funny

  • @mhirtes12 Agree.

  • I would give my left nut to enjoy such A divine meal, not only would I enjoy every savory bite,I would extend my joy to loved ones, family and friends.

  • 2 dollars would be nice today

    i would stock up

  • Batter-dipped chicken, and "whipped" potatoes...oh boy !

  • A cholesterol laden,eighty-five cent heart attack covered in foil.

  • Yeaaaaaaah Yummmy.

  • @hamtrak

Your body is weak. It cannot handle food that REAL people consume.

  • only problem was and still is with those dinners there hardly satisfying your still hungry 30 minutes later

  • that cheap so incredible

  • Not many microwaves back then.Had to throw it in the oven for about 40 minutes. But was worth it.The chicken was so dry that it would choke you, ditto with the vegetables, the dessert was cooked away. But them potatoes sure was good.

  • @DwighttFrye You got that right.

  • FALSE ADVERTISING 85 CENTS IS TOO LOW OF MONEY EVEN FOR BACK THEN I think

  • Um not really considering you can buy a frozen meal from Banquet for only a couple cents over a buck.

  • Comment removed

  • those tender sweet vegetables are turning me on..I want to play in the apple cake cobbler..and lick that batter dipped chicken

  • your sick

  • lol

  • About 5,000 calories per meal......

  • @hamtrak And had FLAVOR.

    Low-calorie "meals" are Wussy Chow!

  • @mhirtes12 What about Chung King?

  • The worst part was the tinny taste of the food. Tasted like you would imagine chewing on tinfoil tasted. Still back then I think the TV dinners had less chemicals in them. I dont touch most tv dinners today.(read the box ugh)

  • I like how he said 2.00 was alot of money for a meal. You cant even get a value meal for that anymore. lol

  • Look here, kids...the chicken was soggy, the potatoes absorbed the tinniness of the tray, the vegetables were...just too weird to describe, and the dessert filling would stick to the tray like rubber cement. I can't say that I hated them as a child, though. They almost seemed like a treat.

  • That salesman is Satan in disguise.

  • we ate this meal once in awhile when we were kids- we loved them!

  • Crispy my ass! the only thing crispy is the box it came in.

  • lol

  • wow.. 85c... I could eat a lot of swansons at that price.

  • Google "inflation".

That price wasn't really too much different from that of today's microwaveable meals.

  • lol I know.

    Google "happy thoughts"

    :P

  • much better when campbell's made the tv dinners instead of pinnacle.

  • aaaarrrrgghhh i grew up on those things and pot pies. Mom wasn't a very good cook.

.85 cents though, maybe that's why.

  • Today's high food prices?????

  • C.A. Swanson & Sons, which started out distributing fresh and frozen poultry (as well as canned chicken) introduced their "TV Dinner" in March 1954. It was so successsful, Swanson was bought out by Campbell Soup Company in 1955, who concentrated exclusively on marketing the "TV dinners"...this ad was specifically designed to appear during local TV newscasts.

  • I love it when you comment on commercials' vids. Thanks for taking the time

  • TV dinners are gross. Even in the '80s, they were. I used to eat and then back then... nothing to write home about.

  • That looks delicious. Too bad they don't still make them that way!

  • Oh my I must tell you, even then they were not good.I would have taken my 85 cents to Mc Donalds and got a hambuger and fries. Now that was good at that time! much better than today.

  • Yeah they were. I used to eat them all the time.

  • I wish my parents would have known that McDonald's would become inedible in my lifetime.

Maybe they would have let us eat there more often, as kids.

  • its sad you, have to trick your self into thinking that you want to eat mcdonalds today its not good like it used to be!

  • I went to a McDonald's when I was working in Africa in 2002 and that was the closest that I have had to a genuine McDonald's burger in a long time.
