I was only 14, I had to hitch half-way across the country,
but when I arrived, magic DID filled the air, family was everywhere,
there must have been 4,000 trippers in the park that day, there was nothing but good vibes,
I felt more at home than at any other time in my life. I loved, and was loved.
I didn't drop acid, but they shared herb. I had no money, and yet I was never hungry or thirsty, family shared all, and everyone had everything. Hippies were the best. I still carry their Love.
I was in London, and I was 20, so I had been through the entire Sixties period during the most formative time of my life. Scott McKenzie's bell-like voice marked one of the high points. But very soon after that, things went bad. The hippy idea was briefly seductive, but the love-and-piece ethos didn't make sense to me. By the end of the decade, I had only contempt for the druggies and the hippies. They were all doped-out losers. Up until McKenzie, we were doing well. After that, Marxist crap.
I, (originally from Scotland, spent most of my life in Canada and now back in Britain, England), was travelling Europe in late 1986 -87, was stuck in a Paris train staion during a strike - there were many nationalities complaining and groaning about delays and the inconvience of being there, and then this song came on the radio (someones rather large getto-blaster), everybody shut-up, listen and understood, it was unity in an original 60s hope, Beautiful, I'll never forget it, where you there???
@deafsubtitles I lived in Toroto 65 -72, went to St, Margaret's elementary, in North York, anyway I was asking IF anybody was in that Paris train station during that strick Dec 22cd or 23rd, 1986. Peace!
@thirddandave Funny enough, I can't live without the internet and spend much time on Youtube in particular, but in the sixties, the internet was around believe it or not, in a rather archaic form known as DARPAnet. This was the basis of the internet of what we now know and love, but of course, not available to the likes of you an I. As the saying goes, what you don't know can't hurt you. At least in the sixties everyone was too "chilled" to even get bored without the internet.
@thirddandave Funny enough, I can't live without the internet and spend much time on Youtube in particular, but in the sixties, the internet was around believe it or not, in a rather archaic form known as DARPAnet. Makes my spine tingle. Reminds me of Kawasaki's W1 motorcycle which was released the same year and was the largest displacement motorcycle on the market at 624cc. Remarkably, it looked liked a BSA and even the clutch cover looked identical and the engine sounded the same. The sixties must have been such a cool time, much better than the shit we have today in such an over populated and hostile world, plagued by drugs and technology with CCTV watching your every move. Bring back the sixties.
Thanks Baby Boomers for making a mess of everything. If the WWII generation is the " Greatest Generation", the Baby Boomers are the most "Screwed Up" generation.
@Jazzdancefreak Yeah, Rolling Stones should been there. The Monterey International Pop Music Festival was a three-day concert event held June 16 to June 18, 1967 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in Monterey, California. Monterey was the first widely promoted and heavily attended rock festival, attracting an estimated 55,000 total attendees with up to 90,000 people present at the event's peak at midnight on Sunday.
@hotmn4u Fuck off you dick head your just a fucked up wanker people like you should be locked away for life, i would love to meet you you arsehole face to face, you would be crying like a baby & crying for your mom wanker!!!!
@strappingone hey at least you caught some of it, I was born far too late to have ever been there but I can't say I didn't enjoy the 90s or the angst behind the music, its honestly the last time I can say music or culture was relevant, since then we've almost become caricatures of ourselves. The hippie spirit does live on though and for that I am grateful.
Remember when we were not afraid of the sun and summers were filled with excitement and adventure? what happened? What happened is we were taken over, almost everyone now days is on some proscription drug and on fluoride so out of it! We can not even see we have been invaded, harsh to say but true. We got work to do, Ron Paul is all we have to start moving in the right direction and then from there, ????????????????? it is up to us. We have to take one step
FYI: 0:16 Brian Jones† (The Rolling Stones), 1:17 Janis Joplin† (Big Brother & The Holding Company) & Jack Casady (Jefferson Airplane), 1:20 Brian Jones, 1:22 Jimmy Hendrix†, 1:24 Michelle Phillips & Cass Elliot† (The Mamas & Papas).
In terms of popular music: This moment was the very highest point in human history. No matter what happened after that, nothing could ever equal the sublimity of it. It was the very moment when Heaven touched the earth.
@1disrupt I do not accept these things as the norm, I look at them with disgust and disdain. I look back on the 60s and see so much I wish we still had, so much we lost in the decades following, so much we'll never get back. We fought an unpopular war for nearly 10 years in Iraq, much like we did in Vietnam and yet there was no uproar, no sit-ins, no flowers in guns, no protests for peace. Are we that accustomed to war now that we just accept it?
Let me give a does of hope those to those who still have that San Fran. spirit in your not-totally-jaded hearts. I met a couple n their 70's; beautiful people, he a lawyer who works for the people on the streets who have no voice. She's a teacher who has volunteered weekends for the last 40 years in the inner city to help kids find their full worth. They take from life only what they feel than put back and theyr gentlest, hopeful people I've ever met. They came to San Fran. and never left.

@dsprague --Yeah, they were the ones that built the railroads back in the 1800s when everyone else sat on their asses. Everyone is an immigrant including you. Somewhere someplace you have ancestors that our flooding an area too and probably sitting on their asses or are illiterate.
Such an amazing time! Such a far cry from the empty, corporate, rigid capitalist world we live in today! These people understood that there was more to life than work, work, work and buy, buy, buy!
Today I dreamed I was in SF and as a christmas present for my sister I stole the Seattle Space Needle and put it to San Francisco. While I did that I was singing this song... :D Merry Christmas Everyone from Rösrath!

@SenfMann132 Same here bro, I hate this generation, the women in this time looked so exquisite and natural that they looked like something of true beauty from a fairy tale. It just makes me want cry!!

2:55 So cute. Back then the women were so beautiful. Not like nowadays, all those whores with their faces full of Make up, and artificial tan.

@MrGuitarphenomenon They probably want to be involved with what is (or was) going on, just like everyone else, as much as they can. Nobody likes to be left out of things.
