  • Brilliance!!!

I would have eventually made something exactly like this, to a sort. But you beat me to it. Great job!

I'm uploading some vids of my custom Dreamcast cabs soon. I'll link you once I get em up. I'm certain someone with your talent will be able to appreciate them.

  • DREAM STEALER! i thought of this 3 1/2 years ago,had the EXACT same design in my head, just no money, wood, or graphic artist to utilize it...URRRG!

great job though it looks just as i imagined it would..."GNARLY!" lol

  • @theprincessismyhoe89 I have the same thing happen to me! Sorry about that :-P

  • @tigheklory lol least it looks exactly as i imagined, you did not botch it AT ALL!

are you up north, califonia'way???? id like to stop by when i move to oregon maybe throw you an offer ;) or at least get you to build or show me how to build one lol

  • @theprincessismyhoe89 Sorry man I live in upstate NY. You are welcome to check it out though if you ever come out my way.

  • @tigheklory well kool thanks for the invite! i hope i will be able to take you up on it one day. back at ya califonia'way! lol

im still dreading the move as i literally have to uproot a whole "World of Nintendo department store thats at this moment growing faster than i can video tape it,my update has been on hold for the last month now and is continuing the hold until April as another sign dropped into my lap from the heavens above! did not see it coming at all but am thankful lol

  • It sucks how Gunpei passed!! It almost seemed like a setup.

  • It sucks how Gunpei passed!! It almost seemed like a setup.

  • It sucks how Gunpei passed!! It almost seemed like a setup.

  • So YOU actually made your, perhaps playable, version of the Nintendo VirtualBoy?

If so, I must say you should apply for a job @ Nintendo :D

  • Any chance of selling it? That'd be awesome to have.

  • @byakugan03 Everything is for sale, if you have a Star Trek: The Next Generation Pinball to trade for it, it is yours! :-)

  • THIS IS AWSOME

  • How do you change the carts?

  • @MCdrivein You just reach behind and change them. The Virtual Boy removes easily anyway so you can do that too.

  • I would LOVE one of these! it's too bad the screen on my VB is on the fritz ='(

  • You're an amazing arcade builder.

I really love your machine and every detail that you've put in to it. But I was even more amazed by the serial number plate, that's incredible detail in my opinion. With the correct reference to an other Nintendo cabinet, just amazing!

The only minor detail is like you said the marquee, I personally would print it in a sticker and stick it on the glass, it gives the best effect imo. But that's just a minor detail.

    Anyways,

    Absolutely brilliant Congrats!

  • looking good, exedra

  • @0IIMENACEII0 Thank you!

  • this is amazing. you sould make a gameboy arcade cabnet

  • @boba2000fett I have been thinking about that!

  • You are a true craftsman. This cabinet is very impressive!

  • @ethinethin Thanks!

  • great video thumbs up

  • @matrstudio Thank you!

  • Is the cab comfortable to stand at? Do you have to be at somewhat of an awkward angle that puts stress on your back at all, or is it at a point where you can stand there for hours with no stress?

  • @IzLoveMoneyz It is very comfortable, but I wouldn't suggest you play any arcade game for hours, unless you are going for a world record. And especially with the Virtual Boy, you will be seeing cross-eyed for days!

  • You sir, are a genius!

  • @vintagevideogamegeek Thanks! I love your bookshelf! I just use those cheap $25 units from Walmart.

  • Badass

  • @cigar420 Thanks for the comment! :-)

  • This is awesome.

  • @KinomiyaMichiru Thank you Holly!

  • And then he got prosecuted under the new 978 law that's trying to be passed under the radar.... and slapped with a felony.

  • Wow Fantastic work! I love the virtual boy. This is great!

  • Dude you're a real inspiration. I always wanted to do arcade cabinet construction, maybe I should.

  • Dayum, too bad your so honest about it! that could easy pass for some official proto cabinet

  • Amazing, just amazing man!

  • That is awesome!! Fantastic job!

  • An amazing job. Makes the Virtual Boy far more appealing!

  • I salute you passion, sir. Very fine work.

  • This awesome to say the least. I would love to have this in my game room.

  • @moomert1 You have a very nice game room! I would love a candy cabinet myself!

  • its probably what it should have fucking been in the first place. nice job.

  • That's just awesome, and i just love the attention to some of the smaller details like the serial number plate. By far this is one of the best things i've ever seen

  • @Dan9550X Thank you! I felt I had to do right my the Virtual Boy and Gunpei-san.

  • Amazing work.

  • Very well done man! This thing is awesome. A pat on the back to you from all gamers old enough to remember the virtual boy.

  • Dude tha's a really awesome Way to revive the virtual boy, BTW you make a mistake, you write GunpeY with "Y" instead of "i" Gunpei is the correct, cheers =D

  • @samuraiyue Yes I corrected that if you look on my blog, see the link in the description.

  • How about you show us you using it? I want to see how ridiculous it looks.

  • @Ketsui I will be making a video of that.

  • O.o That thing looks so good.

  • you've got a babe magnet right there

  • wow, that's impressive work! brilliant!

  • dear god

  • There's a BABY Pacman!?!? O_o

  • Ohhh master, please teach me :)

I'd really like to have an Gambe Boy arcade cabinet. That would be great. Probably with two player function, oh yeah :)

  • @WrongMovie It's not too hard to make. I made an arcade cabinet myself last year. All you need is lots of patience with measurements, some boards of plywood, a few metal brackets, nuts and bolts (screws if you prefer) , borrow some tools, stick the console, controllers etc inside, then paint some cool design on the outside. Took me only a couple of weeks to make my one.

  • That is actually amazing!!

  • I want to play teleroboxer on this thing.

  • This is amazing. You did a great job with the custom cabinet. Really impressive.

  • The Virtual Boy is a crappy system, but this arcade cabinet idea is really cool! I wouldn't mind owning one.

  • Damn that is so legit!!

  • I'm surprised that you didn't wire up a stereo (or mono) speaker (or maybe you did and didn't point it out)

  • How did you get into this hobby/career of restoring and building cabinets?

  • well it would be good if virtual boy didn't lazor your eyes out....

  • Man , this is truly amazing ! im speechless

  • im quite impressed! way to take crap[ and make it into something really neat

  • WOW !!! This is soooo awesome !!!

  • Absolutely ingenious!

  • Love it!

  • this looks like a potential wedgie booth....

  • Nintendo had the designer killed! D:

  • Extremely well designed.

  • AVGN took me here !

  • How much did this cost to make?

  • You are a genius

  • I'm speechless:)

  • Incredible work & design!

  • SOMEONE SEND THIS TO KIETH APICARY!!!!

  • Why not just make a headstrap for it? That would solve the problem.

  • pretty official man

  • This is really awesome! I wish i could do something like this....

  • That is very creative. Looks like Nintendos original or even better. Well done! THanks for sharing. Blesses

  • AWESOME dude

  • Shut up and take my money!

  • Very nicely done. I always wondered why they went with a stand for the design when a head strap would make so much sense. Also, are the games naturally coded in that red color or is it just the VB interpreting the games as red, because if the VB is only reading the games in that red color then maybe something in the programming can be changed so that it reads the games in something less headache inducing. I always wondered about that.

  • @Inspectornills

The Virtual Boy's actual graphics code was just a generic 4-color monochrome palette similar to the gameboy. Theoretically they could have used any 4 shades of a color for the LEDs, but their reasoning for going with red was because it was cheap. Nintendo claimed that red made the 3D illusion easier to see, but I seriously doubt this. I personally would have preferred blue :P.

  • This is so fucking cool.

  • that is incredible

  • I think this guy needs to sell/make a new one for James Rolfe (AVGN). Then, he could review it, compare, play his games on it, ETC.

  • @ToonLinkGaming or let the AVGN borrow it for a fortnight.

  • What do you know about suicide batteries on a CPS3 board? I'm worried about mine dying and I have no idea who a reputable source would be to get it replaced.

  • holy fuck! you should try selling this man, i'm pretty freaking sure it would go for a hiiigh price

  • The vurtual boy does not have good games lol it makes me want to puke

  • I first saw this when it had 60 views....Congrats I suppose

  • Wow this is fantastic. Great work man!

  • Really impressive, great work!

  • How do you keep from spreading Pink Eye to everyone who uses it?

  • Damn awesome work dude! Keep it up!

  • you have talent my friend... your very creative

  • I wish Nintendo actually made these.

  • Hey man, if you are going to print the virtual boy back-lit marquee on a better material, this is what you do, have a professional photo lab print it on Dura-trans, its a photo material thats meant to be backlit and its printed on a photo machine that uses 3 colors of lasers to print digital images on this material. its not too expensive and I am sure you can find services online that can do it. And use a good quality florescent tube that has a high CRI, that will make that thing look great!

  • whoa!!! thats amazining! but why would you bother with virtual boy??? i hear that the console itself was -insert inappropriate sentence here-

  • wow man great job. u should patent this or something. great idea. im jealous.

  • @Blisterandburn Patent it? why? Like Nintendo wants to re-release the Virtual Boy, that thing a was a big flop.

  • @necramoniumdotc0m they allready have the first REAL 3D game console 3DS and what makes it different from virtual boy is that it has no stupid goggles, you dont need 3D glasses, and finally its not a big pile of hot stinky ****. yeah yeah i am sure you have heard of 3DS (even solid snake would shit rocks trying to prevent people from hearing it)

  • Really awesome job, the cabinet looks amazing! ....But next time ask a favor of a friend and have someone else do the camera work ;)

  • Nice work! It looks nice.

  • Good Job!!!!

  • Thumbs up if you simply got here by yourself

  • This thing made me puke at a Best Buy once when I was 8....

  • I swear People on Youtube Make the most amazing Shit. I end up wanting them! Good Work Man! It looks very great.

  • i've always had a dream of building an arcade cabinet for something. i am simply in awe of this. very well done!

  • Excellent job, man. I bet if you ebay'd this someone would pay upwards of 5k for it.

I have a small bit of advice regarding the front design where the actual VB periscope is, either put some kind of see-through graphic sticker on the black space, or make it look so that the neck is leading somewhere. Just some design advice, you did great work.

  • Isn't "dedicated to the memory of" redundant?

  • That is so mamazing... seriously... you rock o.O

  • I have to congratulate you on a truly awesome build! Everything from the stickers to the controls is awesome, I also like the dedication plate on the back, it keeps the memory of the people behind what you are using alive.

Too bad the headaches it gives many people is unfixable though. ; )

  • Why would you do that?

  • that thing looks amazing... holy crap this makes me wanna play Virtual Boy...

  • That's absolutely awesome, but how do you change games? Do you have to open the back or something?

  • This is absolutely fantastic! :D

  • Amazing... Simply Amazing!

  • I spy a spider at 0:54 crawling under the Virtual Boy! Even the arachnids are enchanted by this creation of yours. :P

  • Died tragically in a car accident... after he left Nintendo..

    Hmm.. Sounds suspicious.

  • @Lionimia that's not funny, you jerk. He is one of the most talented persons ever existed!

  • Wow you now got 100x more views than usual ^^

  • I don't generally like custom cabs but this is great work.

  • Hey! Since you're still making modifications (albeit slight modifications) do you think you could paint the L and R buttons you put on the side for pinball? They look so out of place compared to the dark red and black design for the VB. Keep us posted!

  • SUBBED!!!

  • nice work maan!

  • The dislike bar is the size of Justin Biebers penis

  • @TheFlyingracoon22

    Why would you know that?

  • That is really awesome. Such a nice job on the cabinet! Just when I think your done explaining bam, you show more features! If Nintendo didn't completely dismiss the Virtual Boy, they would be proud.

  • Nice.

  • Guess we all know why the inventor of Virtual Boy left Nintendo huh?

  • You sir are my gaming god! I salute you! Greatest video I have seen in a long time here.

  • lol looks like Keith is going to be after you to get that

  • Who's your friend? Keith Apicary?

  • I subscribed to your channel, solely because of this. Awesome, man; way to make a terrible system and make it worth playing.

  • who ARE you?!

  • I think as an arcade instead of a home console it could have done well.

  • can i come over and play?

  • DUDE. You built and own a freaking Virtual Boy cabinet AND you own Baby Pac-Man? YOU ARE MY FREAKING HERO.

  • If only Nintendo had thought of this.

  • This dude definitely knows how to make chicken soup out of chicken poop!

  • Dude you actually made the Virtual Boy cool! Great work!

  • HOW MUCH WHOULD U SELL THIS FOR????

    I WANT IT

  • @TheFanatic1000 I built it for myself, but there are a few things out there I that would like, for example a Star Trek: The Next Generation Pinball. ;-) Bet you don't want it now.

  • @tigheklory how do u get all of that stuff do you fix old arcade machine for fun or are you just buying them just to start an arcade cause lot of people would want to play it if it was at an arcade place

i have one question though can you switch games or can u only place the pinball game?

  • why virtual boy of all things? why not built an arcade cabinet out of something good?

  • @radelta The whole point is to make the VB good! The games are good, the system has a few flaws...

  • that is fucking swank

  • nice arcade and it is a shame that arcades are dying and it's hard to see a place with old good arcade games

  • Nice detail on the memorial plaque. Excellent work, really.

  • Wow!!! That is really cool!!!!!!

  • Brilliant, making a shitty system actually become somewhat appealing :D

  • I always liked the virtual boy. I really likes the game red alarm. Nice work on the cabinet. Looks professional.

  • I want a 64 cabinet and id put a stool by it

  • Thumbs up if AVGN brought you here.

  • Is that your house?

  • that might make virtual boy cool

  • Awesome work! Gunpei would be proud!

  • !!!O.o!!!

  • This is what happens when adults get a hold of kids toys. I love this shit.

  • I love how a handful of games is "almost all of them."

  • FRIGGIN' AMAZING

  • The only dislike is from Keith Apicary.

  • thumbs up if James Rolfe a.k.a. AVGN brought you here!

by the way awesome dude you should get a price or something!

  • @UltraMovieNerd

    PriZe.

  • Ok, that's one hell of an awesome project!

  • I wish I had this type of talent when it comes to modding. This and any portable home console are awesome creations. Keep up the good work, dude! :)

  • I'll be honest, I think it'd be cool to see more of these around.

I know arcades are dying out sadly, but vintage arcades should be saved like old cars and hopefully arcade museums will become available in the future
