One of the main things I didn't like about this port and really the ONLY thing I didn't like is that it didn't have the original Nine Inch Nails soundtrack on it. I'm a huge NIN fan so it's only natural haha. This one's music was almost too soft compared to the one on PC.
@killkenny5000 I bought the German Quake 4 recently for the Xbox 360, I know Germany are very big on censorship and this was no exception. Many cut scenes are missing and some replaced with nothingness! I noticed the Doom GBA's have green blood which is weird, just draws more attention IMO. The Wolfenstein section was censored again also though the SS still speak German.
@killkenny5000 I know that the UK Pal version is different to the German version with the censorship, I don't know about the European ones though. So the German version would be the same as the European copy right? So only Japan, UK and the USA would have notably different content then?
@killkenny5000 Yea that was what I thought was weird though, the GBA Wolfenstein was uncensored but the hidden Wolfenstein levels within GBA Doom 2 (Map 31 and 32) have been censored they took out all the Nazi references again. Just seemed a bit daft.
@killkenny5000 I didn't know that about the different engines and development team, thanks. It looks like the German Quake 4 is seperate from the others judging by what I have read about it. It was censored by German authorities and having played both versions there are heavy modifications.
@KyubiStewie Oh yeah. That's the main thing. And the main reason I'm still playing Quake Live today. i remember logging onto qspy and being really excited if I could find a server with a ping of less than 200. That meant I might actually place in the middle of the pack instead of dead last.
something about this game is just trippy.....i remember as a kid....it was kindof scary...but now its just....off....like the game just looks blurry and camo...like a hallucination....
Whichever platform we're talking about, Quake was definitely a technological leap upwards in terms of bringing first-person shooters into a true-3D environment. However, it was by no means more "fun" solely because of its high-tech (for the time) engine. Contemporaries that were more fun include Duke3D, Blood, and Shadow Warrior. Jus' sayin'...
I luv the first Quake. The atmosphere was so eerie and scary. Also I liked the heavy Gothic and demonic influences. Id's next game should return to that style.
there is actually another secret, you should be able to get the rocket launcher in the first level and there a secret snipping area above the toxic pool of water within the end of the game....but i'm talking PC version
You can change the controls so that the stick is look and the c-buttons move. I'm just awkward playing this game because I can't stand the N64 controller except for platforming games.
Nvm. A disassembler can be used to rip the USF files (N64 MIDI equivalent) directly from the ROM image. The 64th Note Winamp plug-in is able to play them or encode to WAV.

i like the saturn version more better because it plays alot like the pc version but i respect this vesion but they tried to hard for this verson but i still respect it
That's awesome, beacuase I love the dark ambient music from Doom 64 and the PSX Dooms. This was a pretty good port of Quake, despite the lack of proper dynamic lighting, geometrically simplified level design and a few missing maps.

they are all the same

USA and N.america

The two things that this version sorely missed:

Other than that, not a bad port for the time. The lighting was a cool addition, too.
