yepp some humans deserve a better standard of living, when Im sittin in my kitchen and eating my dinner I think about the hungry kids in africa and other places in the world, the world is just to fucking fucked up fucking fuck, fuckedy fuck fuck.. makes me wanna throw up.
That's cool that you been to Marina Beach! We went to Marina Beach too... I didn't notice it being particularly dirty, so maybe it's been cleaned up since you were there. When was that?
We were there for a month... loved it! India is an amazing place to visit and learn from.
I've been here for about 3.5 years (on work). I really prefer Bangalore to Chennai though. Living here long enough can get to you. :D
Overall, Chennai does seem to be picking up. The last time I went to Marina Beach, was about 6 months back. I prefer Elliot's Beach in Besant Nagar. Have you been there?
Elliot's Beach sounds very familiar... and the location, which I google mapped, is in the heart of all the driving and filming activity we did for the film, "Onan." I'm unskilled at remembering names and stuff. Probably Dave or Shyam could corroborate my sense of things and whether or not we went there.
One of the actors/sound technician, and the brother of the director, lives in Bangalore and loves it compared to Chennai. Both brothers grew up in Kerala and moved away for better opportunities. We did visit Kerala (pls. checkout "Eating and Drinking Indian Style in Kerala"), which was exceedingly charming. Though I did not have the privilege of visiting Bangalore... perhaps next time!
Hey Dawn, hi methoxymetopon! We shot our characters' first meeting at Elliot's Beach. This scene appears in our ONAN playlists as "Onan(Tamil/English)- Sneak Peek #03". It was quieter than Marina, and backed by a more upmarket suburb. I can see why connisseurs of Chennai beaches would prefer it. We found it enchanting!
Oh my golly-goodness... my little ole brain gets soooo tired when I have to remember such big (eyes wide) details, like the name of the beach I actually filmed on! And it was such a pretty, pretty beach too. Pity poor ditzy me. I'll do better next time... (eyes batting... bat, bat)... provided I'm rewarded with shiny trinkets and such...
What are you suggesting? Harrumph! I'll have you know that for dinner tonight, I ate a huge cheeseburger with all the fixings and then had a chocolate frosting covered butter cookie for desert (all made by me in own kitchen, btw), and I washed all that down with a glass of whole milk. I would have washed it down with a couple of dark beers, but I had improv rehearsal tonight and I don't drink and act... that's dangerous!!!
Thank you so much! It was an amazing trip and I feel very fortunate for the opportunity. It was also a very new experience... I haven't traveled that much in my life... it was a big surprise...
Thanks so much, Rick! I really was very lucky for the opportunity of this trip and really haven't traveled that much in my life. I do feel fortunate... :-)
This is a marvellous escape from my work for a minute while I'm in the office. Wish I could teleport there and not have to work the rest of the day. It doesn't look very warm in the video though. Mind you, coming from Scotland, just about any beach anywhere in the world would seem pretty warm compared to what we're used to. :-)
It actually was very warm on the Indian beaches... we were there in April and May is their hottest month. People do dress more modestly on the beach in India so the clothing is misleading.
I'm glad you see it as a marvelous escape... it also felt like that at the time. Traveling is great fun!
kites on the beach! awesome! reminds me of being in Jamaica a thousand years ago.I liked the shots of the huts. This is the real stuff, the stuff you don't see in the brochures. Thanks for showing us the India that hasn't been run through the marketing department
Much of what made India so fascinating was it's remarkable blend of old world traditions and culture with new world innovations... it was quite the hodgepodge.
Thanks for watching, Scott, we're glad you enjoyed it!!! ;-)
Wow! hey Dawn see what you can find out about their music culture... Maybe I can implement some changes in my productions and come up with some weird new genre!
Hiya Luis! The music culture is fascinating in India... highly influenced by Bollywood and the movie industry, this being most, if not all, of their popular music. There is a classical sound using more traditional instruments and lyrics which is very cool as well. I bought some CDs while out there... not nearly enough as I wish I had more. Their music is worth studying for your new genre!!!
Hey Dawn, Now that I see where you are, forget about bringing me back a t-shirt. It would probably be hard to find one in a fishing village like that. So instead just bring me a fish wrapped in newspaper. Can't wait for you to get home!! Steve
Thanks Steve!! You are right about t-shirts... they were hard to find, though there were lots of pretty textiles of all kinds. I did find some fish wrapped in newspaper for you but customs took it away (it got kinda stinky anyways)... such as life... :-D
That's true, Shyam... there was a lot Dave and I would've liked to have filmed... India was rich with fascinating, mind blowing, images and ideas. Oh well, next time... ;-)
Wow Dawn, looks fun.I know India is movie crazy-it seems their whole society is based on something called a "Cast" system..All the world's a stage and such...aww,you get it,always want you to laugh.Peace and do great.
Funny!! Didn't see any beds of nails, geo, but saw many other very mind opening sights... lots of sounds and smell too. India is a feast for the senses.
If one is careful, eats cooked foods, and drinks bottled water or water that's been boiled (or disenfected with clorine tabs or whatever), then you can avoid those kinds of bacteria illnesses.
I did pay attention more carefully to what I ate and drank but it didn't feel like a burden or anything. Eat the good stuff, avoid the bad stuff... that was my mantra... ;-)
