He was a truly great fighter and it's such a shame what happened to him. I'm not condoning his past behaviour as Drugs have destroyed the lives of the addicted and their families and is a major problem worldwide. But if you compare a sentence of 24 years for $24,000 worth of drugs (and was a stitch up as-well) to what other criminal's are getting these days especially in England his sentence just doesn't add up.I just hope he gets paroled one day soon so he can salvage what's left of his life.
@gameboy010203 you never climbed on anyone haha, i'd bet your still a virgin judging by your immature comment. By the way, do yourself a favour and get a life, pathetic no mark.
Nunn had almost everything - great height (6ft 2in), long arms (for outside fighting), long legs (for great mobility), quicksilver reflexes, phenomenal handspeed, good inside fighting skills, & natural power! But like everyone he had a weakness - that being his chin & his elongated neck (Frank Tate was the first to see this, but he didnt have the style & power to capitalise on this). When Nunn came upon a rough tough fighter lke Toney with determination, power & great defence he came unstuck!
Nunn was a great Middleweight champ - I dont doubt that! But he is still way behind Hagler, Hopkins, Sugar Ray Robinson, Monzon & Burley. In his prime, Nunn was v impressive! Nunn beat Frank Tate to win his title & Tate was no pushover (Tate was tall, strong, a great jabber with speed). His perfromances against Roldan & Kalambay were also mighty impressive! But as great as Nunn was, James Toney was just better - he knocked Nunn senseless & who is to say that Toney would not have done this again.
@srilankansilkyshark LIghts Out did knock him senseless, but if I remember correctly (and I last saw that fight when it occurred so it's been awhile) Nunn completely dominated him the entire fight until Toney caught him with a vicious left hook one punch ko. And James Toney at that weight was just an exceptional fighter, and Nunn was owning him.
@kdually14 I'm sure there are plenty of boxers you don't even know exist that are really good. I mean, this video has been posted over 2 years ago and you just reply 3 weeks ago lol. Wannabe. I thumbed up his comment too because Roberto Garcia led me to watch this too :) mad?
Sure there are boxers that we know nothing about. but that's irrelivent. maybe my comment was uncalled for, but come on everyone knows Nunn. and just because it was posted over 2 years ago doesn't mean I can't reply, he posted 7 months ago, it doesn't matter. furthermore, i'm not really mad. just a little surprised neither of you knew about him.
Lol! Isn't technology convenient! I can see that you're a big boy... In any case, you should read more, and educated yourself. I'd recommend that you start with Roger Hargreaves. He has some nice children's books that should not be too difficult for you to assimilate. Once you've finished with that collection, reply back and I'll give you another set to work on. Together, we will work on your self esteem. That's what I do. I help people like you. Please.
@mooncroc there you go again with your gay big boy antics. You talk about education - yet you have just finished reading childrens books? You say you are a student of boxing - I will teach you a lesson you will never forget! Now, bow down to me and I promise not too whup you too badly. Now I suggest you go back to your ABC books and start over and maybe I will buy you some little toy boxing gloves to wear so you can show them off to your boyfriend.
@PJ3love Oh my! I am so proud of you. You truly are a big boy! I am so happy that you came back for more. Now that you have finished reading Mr. Hargreaves' cute little stories. Did you like Little Miss Bossy? Tonight, we'll move to something a teeny-weeny-bit more challenging. Now mummy wants her big boy to read The Adventures Of Pippi LongStocking. If you respond back as quickly as you did, I'm gonna give you a sweet lollypop with cream! And we will cuddle and watch Sesame Street. XOXO
@mooncroc well anus head is spewing his ruptured ass shit around - do yourself a favour faggot and wear your nappy and I wont do a shit on your head and smash your face in and put you on youtube. Well sodomite dont go getting no diseases you stupid gay cunt
@PJ3love Mummy loves her big boy so much! Now, you're a big boy, aren't you?! Here you go. Suck on your big lolly. It has special cream. Yumm! And don't forget to eat your spinach. You'll grow big and strong. And get a looooong pistol like Lucky Luke. Mummy will let you ride her like Joly Jumper. It's going to be a prolonged hardy-ride. We'll have fun! Yeah!! Then I'll huge you real tight as we sit an watch My Little Pony. I know my big boy loves those beautiful rainbows.. ;D
@mooncroc You were probably abused as a child. I would suggest you seek help as it is only a matter of time before someone less forgiving beats the living shit out of you. No one on this sight appreciates your child abused comments. If I had known the extent of your sickness I would have ignored you. Now, get out of our sight...
Michael nunn is my best friends uncle! And my dad used to be a limo driver and Michael bought it from him. Only if Michael wasn't in jail me and my friend would b hanging out rite now!!!!!!!!!
Nice video. He was pretty slick. He has that strange no-power-cuddly-caress-like-kind-of-punches like Paul Williams and Joe Calzaghe. This type of punching has no effect against rough guys like James Toney.
@mooncroc absolute bullshit! His punches look like they cause no damage because they are effortless! That is how punches are supposed to be thrown. Him and Herol Graham and Ali, sugar ray are great examples of perfect punching. Herol Graham looks like a powder puff puncher but he badly cut up Julian Jackson with his no power punches. I dont think your knowledge of boxing is too exceptional and I dont think you know an awesome champion who had a drug addiction years before the toney fight
I guess you have taken my comment too much out of context. I said that he has "strange" effortless-LIKE/caress-LIKE type of punches. Similar to Joe Calzaghe and Paul Williams. I never said that it didn't hurt. Especially if they are thrown in high volume. But I do believe that such style of punching is not enough to put the next man on the canvas with a single blow. Might I add that I am an apt pupil of the Art of Boxing, and I take pride in striving for perfection.
He is from my home town thats family to me of only he came out of lail davenport iowa got batrual born talent from one of the most gifted trainer Alvino Pene And Fred Thomas
Nunn was a badass back in the day. I guess the loss to Toney began his boxing downfall. Everyone loses eventually, and he gave us fans a few years of boxing brilliance.
@serekithegreat His downfall had begun prior to Toney. He'd looked like shit in his 3 prior fights against Curry, Starling, and Barkley. The partying and excessive cocaine use had already began his deterioration as a fighter. He looked a lot better against Toney prior to the KO than in any of those fights, though, incidentally.
That's sad to hear man. Fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr. have the discipline to stay away from drugs, even alcohol, and the party life while they move ahead int heir boxing careers. Nunn did look though good until he got caught with that punch late in the fight.
Agree with everyone here. Should have gone down in the annals as one of the best fighters of all time. Bloody waste. Bloody drugs. He just had it ... whatever it is. It's hard to describe but you know IT when you see IT. He had IT in spades.
Back in the day end of 86 to the first half of 1989 this guy looked as unbeatable as it gets, but his failure to secure a shot at Leonard or Hearns and therefore had to settle for guys Barkley and Starling he got uninterested and lazy and then left the goosens which started his downfall. the funny thing is to avoid Nunn, Leonard chose to fight Norris who he was favored to beat and look what happend! Late 80's Nunn would have cleaned up with guys like Benn and Eubank and Toney who he was leading.
He was an amazing fighter but unfortunately he got very lazy, very selfish and after the Toney fight self doubt started rearing it's ugly head and he was never the same fighter. Doing a huge jail sentence as you read this.
Shame we never got to see Nunn vs Leonard circa 1989.
Man! Michael Nunn was an awesome fighter! 1:20-2:16 shows his fight with Frank Tate. He beat Tate like he was his slave. His defensive skills in that fight was as awesome as his offensive skills. What a waste of a talent! He could have been one of the all time greats, instead he's doing 20 in the big house.
wow thnx 4 the video i did not think he is so good ^^
