It's a "dirty hit" in the sense that, with the size of the players and speed of the game increasing so much in the past decade... a hit like this is becoming more and more dangerous. It's still legal, but becoming morally wrong...
my bad. I didn't know that was jonesy announcing. Still, i'm not sure about the dirtyness of this hit. Payback is alive and well in the NHL and if you're gonna play in that league you should be able to take a 'hard' hit. More importantly, you should be aware who's on the ice. Player sizes are relative I think. Yes, the speed has increased but anyone looked at the equipment lately? its protects better but at the same time hit delivery is that much harder. its a clean hit in my books still.

i'm not saying the act of JVR at the face off was deserving of some sort of retaliation, all i'm saying is in a league where hitting is allowed, i'm sure it's somewhat uncomfortable checking hacked and crosschecked and armstrong saw an opportunity to land a clean hit in response to that, and in terms of late hit/high elbow etc. IMO it's too close to call (and it's not a CLEAR dirty hit, i guess that's why there isn't a suspension) but hey this is why we have opinions and different POV's :)

Bogosian pushed VanReimsdyk into Colby's hit. I doubt it would've been nearly as bad had Van not been pushed into the hit. I also don't think it was all that late either. According to the timer in the video it was about a second between getting rid of the puck and getting laid out.

By rule book definition... that's a clean hit. As long as you keep your feet on the ice and the other player is facing you... it's legal. It's a "dirty hit" in the sense that, with the size of the players and speed of the game increasing so much in the past decade... a hit like this is becoming more and more dangerous. It's still legal, but becoming morally wrong...

my bad. I didn't know that was jonesy announcing. Still, i'm not sure about the dirtyness of this hit. Payback is alive and well in the NHL and if you're gonna play in that league you should be able to take a 'hard' hit. More importantly, you should be aware who's on the ice. Player sizes are relative I think. Yes, the speed has increased but anyone looked at the equipment lately? its protects better but at the same time hit delivery is that much harder. its a clean hit in my books still.

I agree, and believe me, I'm a fan of old school hockey! I just think that hitting a guy with his head down is a lot more dangerous than it used to be. My attitude has changed a bit over the years. I used to love seeing a hit like this (and still kind of do). I just think hitting a guy who has his head down is similar these days to hitting a guy from behind, or sucker punching, or throwing an extra punch at the end of a fight when the other guy's down or tied up by the linesman...

Um, have you ever had a severe concussion? Have you been in that position first hand or are you just watching from the stands and standing up for big hits cuz you like the entertainment? By NO MEANS am I saying get rid of hitting, or even hits to the head necessarily, but something needs to be changed to ensure player safety. I've played hockey since I was real young and I was a mucker throughout my career. I did the dirty work, I was physical and I took care of business. I'm all for that.

ya i get you, and i luckily havent had a concussion considering the hard hits ive taken/given, but hockey these days is becoming to cautious, look at the old days, goalies had no helmets...now if a goalie looses his helmet the whistle is blown then and there, a former leaf (i forget who) played knowingly with a broken leg, now a days a broken finger puts u out a month. the way equipment has evolved, players should be able to get bumped around a bit, instead of every hit being a "hit to the head

Minors will happen incidentally but something needs to be done about these brutal hits that are causing serious injuries. Hopefully the equipment changes help. that's some pretty fancy stick work at the face off (and colby didn't respond in any way to it at that point) ,so instead of slashing and hacking, he hit em, was it a bit of a charge, maybe. but it was a clean shoulder. I don't have a problem with that hit. But in terms or DESERVE, yeah i guess i can agree with you there, it's not like some chops and slashes warrant you to get crushed, but hey if you want to take some little cheap shots and the other guy comes back w. a clean hit, don't complain

i'm not saying the act of JVR at the face off was deserving of some sort of retaliation, all i'm saying is in a league where hitting is allowed, i'm sure it's somewhat uncomfortable checking hacked and crosschecked and armstrong saw an opportunity to land a clean hit in response to that, and in terms of late hit/high elbow etc. IMO it's too close to call (and it's not a CLEAR dirty hit, i guess that's why there isn't a suspension) but hey this is why we have opinions and different POV's :)

No doubt that is a charge. They really don't call charging enough in the NHL, they need to call it more. And Colby Armstrong has ALWAYS been a headhunter. Bogosian pushed VanReimsdyk into Colby's hit. I doubt it would've been nearly as bad had Van not been pushed into the hit. I also don't think it was all that late either. According to the timer in the video it was about a second between getting rid of the puck and getting laid out.
One thing is for certain though, those announcers are total homers.
