Keep in mind that this wasn't meant to be an extra season, but rather a spin off series called "Scrubs: Med School."  Some last minute changes were made and ABC wanted another season. So yeah, it's different, but it's meant to be different.

Lawrence did not want Season 9 to be Season 9 of Scrubs. He was simply going to call the show "Scrubs Med." It was ABC who wanted it to be the 9th season.

Season 9 is a representation of what happens when you can't accept the fact that all good things come to an end eventually. And notably, JD's ending words to season 8 is all about letting go of the past and moving to the future. Leaving it at that speculation of what the future holds for him lets all the fans go nuts with their imaginations. And would have been the perfect ending. But all the Scrubs creators/workers must not have got that season 8 message.

i like both scrubs, but personally, the first version better, but i'm not at all against the new scrubs, it's just my personal opinion, why all this hate, i was missing scrubs for so long, and remember JD's last words in the old scrubs?

"We musn't live in the past to long." You should welcome change, it happens in life, and scrubs has taught me more about life than in all of my PSHE lessons combined, so I'd say, it was bound to happen to Scrubs too.

Bill Lawrence tried to get the name changed but they wouldnt let him.

@jackm304 If I remember correctly. I believe Scrubs was never intentionally going to go past Season 8. Bill Lawerence was going to instead create a Spin off series called Med School. But because of something in the contract they were not allowed to. So if it was to be made it would have to be classed as season 9 of Scrubs.
