Oh my goodness, I couldn't have put it better myself! I felt exactly the same. I wanted to be at that party and as you say it encapsulated the Christmas season
thats a shame, iv been trawling through all the adverts to try and find the original cointreau advert! only cos i thought it was a brill advert and i kinda learned it all the way through ....... orangis rappend in d tropical sun! if you find it pllllleeeeeassse let me know, my boyfriend doesnt remember it and i think iv exhausted the internet looking for it!
Oh I so loved the original advert! I thought I should be living that life!! To me that symbolised Xmas and I loved the start of the festive season when it first appeared on tv.
Oran-jez rappend in ze tropic-al sun. Your boyfriend doesn't remember it because it was only us women who went nuts when the French guy came on!!
The first (I think) Cointreau ad was made in 1973.
It featured these two and, briefly, Elisabeth Sladen, who auditioned for Doctor Who the morning after filming it. Can't find that one on YT, but I may have it on tape somehere.
This was never shown on Westward, TVS or Channel 4 in the south as Jennifer Clulow was employed by those companies as a continuity announcer/presenter in those regions and the IBA disallowed commercials to be shown in the region where the stars were employed.
Absolutely loved seeing this again. The first film I taped on video was Sweeney 2, December 1981 and as I rewatched it over the following weeks I kept seeing this ad in the interval and thought it was so funny and charming.
Thank you for this..these adverts were great. I was a mere young thing when these went out...far too young to drink...but they have stayed with me all those years. These adverts showed that something subtle can have a much stronger impact than the more obvious...so mysterious. I wish I could get hold of all the adverts. Does anyone know who they actors were in the advert and if they went on to do anything else?
I so agree with you! They did a whole series of these Cointreau Ads. featuring the same actors over a quarter f a century! They recently did a chart of the most popular Christmas TV Adverts of all time - these didn't even feature... How sad the world has become... These have been with me for years too - and will remain with me forever...
This was one of the great chaptered commercials, like the Nescafe Gold Blend ad campaign.
I must have been ahead of my time as kid watching this commercial because I loved it.
It was just soaked with sought after sophistication.

Thank you so much for posting! I loved the Cointreau adverts - so classy!!
For some reason, the lady in the ads always reminded me of Frida from ABBA !!
