@SuperApparition Mad, no. Unconventional, yes. Before you buy into the hype that shoes are a requirement for exercise and knee/joint longevity consider that folks have only been running in shoes like your Asics since the 70s while man has been running barefoot or minimal since, well, a lot longer :) Plus there has been little to no scientific support showing that your Asics will actually benefit your body.
Has everyone who is posting on this YouTube video gone completely mad? Why do you insist on on living in the past BareFootMofo? Those sandals look ridiculous. My doctor recently told me to start exercising because I'm quite overweight. He advised me to purchase a pair of Asics Kinsei 4 runners, which are truly amazing. I can run faster and longer in my Kinsei 4 and my knees will probably be healthy for the next 50 years. Your sandals are at best a novelty, but get yourself some running shoes.
@TheGreatAristo At least someone listens to me! Thanks buddy :) I have stopped running since I posted my last message due to a pretty sore knee and lower back. Doctor says I'm probably not built for running so it's back to the pool once a week for me. Nevertheless, I still recommend the Kinsei 4. Great shoes, solid design, and fast. Peace out.
@tortugo@tortugo I do prefer the slip-on style to the ankle wraparound. Just more comfortable for me - I dont care for the feel when wrapped around the ankles/calves. I've gotten pretty accustomed to the sandals since this review, having run 25k and 50k trail runs in them. Thayer haven't fallen off yet :)
You mention that it felt like you were going to lose them at one point. I notice you have them tied in the slip on style. Have you tried them tied for running? Or does it not make that much of a difference?
@Lordgout Good question. The only part of the strap that goes underneath the sandal is the initial knot you tie. The leather strap is quite tough but if you run on rocky and rough terrain there's no getting around the rocks chewing it up. After a while the knot will tear. Fixing it is pretty simple, just unlace the sandal and thread a little length of the strap back below the sandal and re-tie.
hey some other shoes you might wanna check out are Soft Star Shoes RunAmoc. I am using the Trail soles on mine and the Smooth leather version for running in cold weather here in the northwest and even when its been cold and wet my feet have been toasty warm.
I bought the invisible shoe kit and made my own. The sole is thinner(3mm) than the Luna model which some may like because it allows you to feel the ground. The Luna's look great! Good post.
@msliwa thanks! not being the crafty type, i opted to have the huaraches custom made. probably safer for everyone that way :) as for sole thickness... durability is an issue on some of the terrain i run which, along with Barefoot Ted's recommendation, steered me to the Leadville model. if i didn't run the trails that i do, i would have chosen a much thinner sole for sure
@AngelBones84 you'd dig these then. they're for folks like you and i who love to be barefoot or in flip-flops but who wouldn't mind just a bit of protection underfoot

How is the durability of the straps underneath the sandal? Will they tear easily?

Very nicely done video!

For me, I only get pebbles under my foot (run on crushed stone trail) when I'm walking. It rarely happens when I'm running/jogging
