im a psychologists just coming out of grad school and i have to say that this video is one of the best vids i have ever seen. things that deal with life and emotions and the process of why we go through things has always caught my mind. and i am so sorry for your loss my little one. but dont you worry mommy will get you a new fishy. this is a very good video and i just thought you should know that.
Last year, my health teacher showed us this video in health. Many people in the class shead at least a tear. Today I lost my dog. She lived a good long life, and I hate she had to die without her family at her side, but I know its part of life. My brother, on the other hand... He's only 8, so I watched as he went through these precise steps, on a slightly greater scale. Don't think of me as cold hearted because I understand how this feels to kids but I kind of feel that the death of a goldfish is not as big of a deal as the death of a person or even of a dog or cat
Way to go lady. You posted the stages of grief on youtube using your daughter and a dead goldfish. I learned more from a giraffe sinking in quicksand. This is unnecessary.
On April 12 , 2011 I got a hamster that I have always wanted ... and yesterday I had gone out to the vet because it was sick ... And my mom got a phone call this morning saying that he died ...but never told me that he did when I came back from school. He meant so much to me ... It was such a sickening feeling as I opened the box and realized my mom had replaced the hamster with one that looked very similar to it . I knew it wasn't the one as soon as I grabbed the pale , old box .
@reidrules45 Dude. When your close relative or whatever dies, would you like to get the local 5 O'Clock all up in your face? I really don't think so, at least if you have two braincells that sometimes sorta interact with each other. This is actually kinda disturbing. Like, the mom is enjoying watching her little girl's grief. Voyeurism. It's kinda sick.
Sitting on the toilet will never be the same again for that girl.. She wears the same clothes in the whole video so I guess all of this happened in one or two days? so short for a first encounter with death :D I'm still not over my kitty dying 12 years ago
We should never be ironic about anyone's feelings. This only prooves that the girl in question has got a beautiful and sensible little heart and good for her; I hope she will always be as compassionate as she's now, towards anyone and anything on her way... True blessing! ;*
My husbands aunt has been dying from cancer in a hospital and I feel very bad about this, the more that I know her in person and I really like her as a human. This is the first time that someone whom I personally know, is about to pass away, so it's pain for me. I was not fully aware of the situation at my grandma's funeral as I was a child and no-one explained me what happened that time... I only understood that when I grew up and it was very bad experience to me... :-(
@shore469 This is NOT at all stupid! :-( Stupid are people who don't understand... A heart of a child is so innocent and pure that it will mourn even an animal - and this way, the child shall learn about death which will prepare them to understand what happens when a human dies... I was a child when my beloved grandma died. I did not remember my other grandparents as they died before I was born. But, I wasn't truly aware of what was happening. And I was 6 years old that time... I miss her alot.
@shore469 Also, I think children should be able to understand the nature of death and if you are not able to experience grief for an animal, then how can you grief for human life...? ;* It is her very own experience. @johnkx you need to understand that it's better for the kid to get through the truth, if it was a family member ok you would be right, but a goldfish is a nice way to break the ice. The girl is better of that it happened like this. Take away the camera and it would be even better :D The kid will be a lot more confused later in her life if people keep stuffing half truths in her mind. She learned a lot more than not to put a round peg in a square hole that day.
YOUR FEELINGS!?!?!?! THE HELL WITH YOUR FEELINGS. EVERYBODY WITH THEIR FEELINGS!! "YOUR MEAN", "MY FISH SPRINKLES DIED", JUST STOP. YOU GUYS ARE ACTING LIKE LITTLE WHINEY BABIES!!!
@LordZan15 GOATS CAN DIGEST TIN CANS SO IF SHE FORGETS TO FEED IT HE'LL BE FINE. AND SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO FLUSH THE GOAT. AND GO THROUGH THOSE STAGES AGAIN.
i was keeped away from death when i was a young child.so i thought i would watch this to help me to help the young child inside of me deal with this.thank you so much.
If only it were this easy but, in the end, thank you for this.
My father passed a few weeks ago and we never had a good relationship. He was an alcoholic and he drank himself to death. I found out about his death a week after his funeral because members of his family hid the information from me. I'm in the depression stage, but to see this little girl move through grief and emerge so gracefully, makes me feel even the slightest bit of hope even if - to the outsider - it's just a goldfish.
Recording from a kid's childhood are priceless...even though we may have a bunch throughout their growing-up years. Finally, if some survive and they can see who they were as chilluns', it was worth every effort. I have mine from 1965, three years old and chattering along, and some from later. The ones of my (now) teen kids are just as precious. Don't let the HIPPA nay-sayers confuse you; these snap-shots are gold.
As soon as you see the water is cloudy like that check for amonia levels, hardness, acidity ... they have test kits at your local petshops, ebay, ... before you get any new fish, please, 1st learn how to properly take care of them. These are live beings, not toys.
I like this video. It demostrates all stages of grief clearly and honestly. It also tells me that you are losing fish constantly. Tittle girl like her could not otherwise know what to do with a dead fish. I used to have aquariums for years and if you still have'em I must share few helpful tips:
1. 1" of fish on every 1 gallon of water in the aquarium.
2. If you have a 2.5 gallon tank, you can't have 2 goldfish in it, because they grow too fast and produce more amonia than any other fish.
guys relax about the mother recording it. I bet this all happened in one day, the little girl must be over it the next day, her mother even said she'll get a new fish. I doubt she'll record her grieving over a person close to her passed away. It's just a fish, they had others in the fish tank.
@ThePangPrincess You DO realize that by the mother recording it, when there is a much bigger loss in that child's life, the mother can show her the stages once more, and the girl will GET it, rather than a less personal way, where she might not get it.
I don't think it's good to teach children to anthropromorphize animals especially fish, spiders and insects and other animals that don't have emotions same way as us and dogs and horses and other higher mammals with mammal brains. Not cartoon characters and teddy bears either though of course you don't cruelly steal the teddy bear :P.
@stiaa04 I dont think it was about teaching her anything. The little girl was just being what she was..a little girl, with a pet that she lost. Mom didn't have to teach her anything. She was just being there during one of the little girl's saddest moments of her childhood. Its sad how most of today's parents program and control their kids to live artificial lives because of all the knowledge and advancements of science and technology. Just let them be. Let them cry over a dead pet.
@Jeremyy123 I'm not saying that she is teaching I'm saying that society at large is teaching, not just this but lots of flawed stuff that adults and teens know easily is not literally true, and so parents should teach their kids that rather than playing along with it. Of course being there in the moment is ok I don't think she should suddenly start counteracting the belief in the middle of the grief. She played along with the goldfish having human emotion in the time long before this was filmed.
@stiaa04 Maybe we should also start breaking the news to all the kids in the world that Santa does not exist. And teach them real stuff like hmmm..start thinking about getting a job soon if Obama screws things up.
@Jeremyy123 I never had the santa story presented as something true. I did probably have some facinating things like ufo stories or other mysteries that might have exited me, I was into dinosaurs when I was little. When I became older, astronomy then computers, games, music, art, there are lots of things that kids find exciting, facinating and wonderful that are real.
The faulty assumption that kids need the unreal stuff they like is just cause you have it on a plate.
@Jeremyy123 For that matter it's a false choise cause you say "stop doing kidlike fantasy start giving them adult serious stuff" when the real choise is "stop doing kidlike fantasy, start giving them real kidlike stuff". Oh and that is fantasy that you let them think is real - as opposed to the perfectly fine fantasy that the kids are fully aware isn't.
@stiaa04 Don't suggest people to try and modify the emotional bond their kids have with their pets. It's what it is, and they will maybe care less when they grow up, but that will be up to tem.
Great video, cute and lovely. Only thing is it strikes me as rather cruel, fine film it, but don't waggle the camera in your daughter's face, give her a cuddle and help her come to terms with the death of an animal instead of messing with her emotions and putting them up on the internet.
I can talk though, the things I put my niece and nephew through! :-P
So , dead is a normal stage in human's life, we all the parents should teach our children see it as which is, that's reality, is part of our lives, no matter what. =) what we have to do is just to be close to those who need us with love to pass across this road
interesting to see that the ones supporting the video seem to be human services professionals or have education on the grief process. The video was wonderfully done, the mother was very supportive by guiding her child through the process instead of covering it up or pushing her, and at the end of the day the child learned a hard life lesson in a safe setting.
@aimeeblake099 well commenting on a video that videotapes a child sorrow and uploading it without the child knowing what the hell is happening by saying that was a very good video tells me all i need to know and it gives me the right to call you and all other people that are "educated" or entairtened by such videos coldhearted
@giorgosntoulos2 Give me a fucking break, grief is a factor of life it happens to everybody. Saying that this is a good video about the stages of grief does not make me coldhearted. It is not like this mother killed the goldfish intentionally just to put her daughter through this heartbreak. It IS in fact a good video about the stages of grief. So good in fact that after watching this i was brought to tears.
@giorgosntoulos2 That doesn't mean that i felt nothing for this girl going through the pain of losing her goldfish. You have no right to call me cold hearted you have no idea who i am or how i feel about things. So seriously shut up i wasn't being rude or displacing this little girls feelings and emotion as entertainment. It was a good video and that is that so chill seriously.
I feel so many of these at the same time everyday. I can't wait for the day I can look back and I can not feel the hurt anymore

The girl is better of that it happened like this. Take away the camera and it would be even better :D The kid will be a lot more confused later in her life if people keep stuffing half truths in her mind. She learned a lot more than not to put a round peg in a square hole that day.

These are live beings, not toys.
sopka1985 1 year ago 2

P3T3RJAY 1 year ago 2
HOW BAD OF A MOTHER DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO RECORD THIS?!
ThePangPrincess 1 year ago
@ThePangPrincess You DO realize that by the mother recording it, when there is a much bigger loss in that child's life, the mother can show her the stages once more, and the girl will GET it, rather than a less personal way, where she might not get it.

I don't think it's good to teach children to anthropromorphize animals especially fish, spiders and insects and other animals that don't have emotions same way as us and dogs and horses and other higher mammals with mammal brains. Not cartoon characters and teddy bears either though of course you don't cruelly steal the teddy bear :P.
Better to value people, fish is food.
stiaa04 1 year ago
@stiaa04 I dont think it was about teaching her anything. The little girl was just being what she was..a little girl, with a pet that she lost. Mom didn't have to teach her anything. She was just being there during one of the little girl's saddest moments of her childhood. Its sad how most of today's parents program and control their kids to live artificial lives because of all the knowledge and advancements of science and technology. Just let them be. Let them cry over a dead pet.
Jeremyy123 in reply to stiaa04 (Show the comment) 1 year ago
@Jeremyy123 I'm not saying that she is teaching I'm saying that society at large is teaching, not just this but lots of flawed stuff that adults and teens know easily is not literally true, and so parents should teach their kids that rather than playing along with it. Of course being there in the moment is ok I don't think she should suddenly start counteracting the belief in the middle of the grief. She played along with the goldfish having human emotion in the time long before this was filmed.
stiaa04 in reply to Jeremyy123 (Show the comment) 1 year ago
@stiaa04 Maybe we should also start breaking the news to all the kids in the world that Santa does not exist. And teach them real stuff like hmmm..start thinking about getting a job soon if Obama screws things up.
Jeremyy123 in reply to stiaa04 (Show the comment) 1 year ago
@Jeremyy123 I never had the santa story presented as something true. I did probably have some facinating things like ufo stories or other mysteries that might have exited me, I was into dinosaurs when I was little. When I became older, astronomy then computers, games, music, art, there are lots of things that kids find exciting, facinating and wonderful that are real.
The faulty assumption that kids need the unreal stuff they like is just cause you have it on a plate.
stiaa04 in reply to Jeremyy123 (Show the comment) 1 year ago
@Jeremyy123 For that matter it's a false choise cause you say "stop doing kidlike fantasy start giving them adult serious stuff" when the real choise is "stop doing kidlike fantasy, start giving them real kidlike stuff". Oh and that is fantasy that you let them think is real - as opposed to the perfectly fine fantasy that the kids are fully aware isn't.
stiaa04 in reply to Jeremyy123 (Show the comment) 1 year ago

The video was wonderfully done, the mother was very supportive by guiding her child through the process instead of covering it up or pushing her, and at the end of the day the child learned a hard life lesson in a safe setting.

aimeeblake099 in reply to giorgosntoulos2 (Show the comment) 1 year ago
@aimeeblake099 well commenting on a video that videotapes a child sorrow and uploading it without the child knowing what the hell is happening by saying that was a very good video tells me all i need to know and it gives me the right to call you and all other people that are "educated" or entairtened by such videos coldhearted
giorgosntoulos2 in reply to aimeeblake099 (Show the comment) 1 year ago
@giorgosntoulos2 Give me a fucking break, grief is a factor of life it happens to everybody. Saying that this is a good video about the stages of grief does not make me coldhearted. It is not like this mother killed the goldfish intentionally just to put her daughter through this heartbreak. It IS in fact a good video about the stages of grief. So good in fact that after watching this i was brought to tears.
aimeeblake099 in reply to giorgosntoulos2 (Show the comment) 1 year ago
@giorgosntoulos2 That doesn't mean that i felt nothing for this girl going through the pain of losing her goldfish. You have no right to call me cold hearted you have no idea who i am or how i feel about things. So seriously shut up i wasn't being rude or displacing this little girls feelings and emotion as entertainment. It was a good video and that is that so chill seriously.
