In my opinion, learn your own limits with like showboating when you're playing (i.e. headbanding, stick spinning etc) Learn what you can do whilst playing and then work on that and then you wont go out of time so much whilst showboating. Then it'll all good :)

i always work them out by ear, its eaisier to work them out by ear on drums than it is on guitar though. o and about this video, he is good but if he just put the 2 crashes a bit looser than it would sound a lot better

Nah but i am right handed. I just switch up in playing right handed, left handed, and open handed for style. I usually play right handed but il switch between left and open for style and gives me more room for headbanging and other shit like that.

at first it is a little hard, because you are keeping time with your opposite hand, instead of your dominate hand. after a while you'll get used to it. i suggest playing slower tempo beats, then gradually building up. once you get the hang of it, it allows you switch off if a hand/arm gets tired or it can let you do different stick tricks and whatnot.
