Thank you for this posting. One can see how Schoenberg felt he had to break out of this ultra-lush post-romantic expressionism! What more can a string orchestra achieve? This work seems to have pushed the string genre and language of tonal music to its furthest extremes. I do feel though that a conductor with more string-empathy could have given a richer rendition here. Pierre's strength and passion are in the later serial music, with which he has perhaps greatest empathy. But still wonderful!!

It is magnificently played with great sound. Unfortunately Pierre was not much inspired to bring his musicians to an extra touch of sparcle
of feeling: Specially at harmonic resolutions. They
come too automatically -instead of the pealing out mechanism a batoon has to fulfill with insight -.
