  • Thank you for this posting. One can see how Schoenberg felt he had to break out of this ultra-lush post-romantic expressionism! What more can a string orchestra achieve? This work seems to have pushed the string genre and language of tonal music to its furthest extremes. I do feel though that a conductor with more string-empathy could have given a richer rendition here. Pierre's strength and passion are in the later serial music, with which he has perhaps greatest empathy. But still wonderful!!

    come too automatically -instead of the pealing out mechanism a batoon has to fulfill with insight -.
