I know this video is super old, but I was wondering how I would go about learning how to paint and stuff like you do. I have a bunch of old consoles and am trying to collect more but some just look really bad and I want to be able to refurbish them to be better than you, maybe even customize them like you do. So any advice? Also, do you repaint the nintendo nes logo on the doors? Thanks a bunch.
3M buffing compound is awesome, but it's a little too expensive for me. I use Norton Black Ice buffing compound. It breaks down as you use it so you don't need to use different compounds, just different buffing pads. How did you do the stickers? Did you buy a new door with the stickers on it, can you buy the stickers new somewhere?
@affansonicfan Its a combo of very good prepwork, good basecoat, high quality poly clearcoat, good HVLP spray gun, the right PSI, the right gun settings and tip, the right strokes, correct flash time, correct mixing ratio, enough curing time, correct sandpaper grit, color sanding, the right stages of compound at the right time, and the correct buffing pad at any given time. Buffing pads arent that cheap either.
@affansonicfan So yeah, it is complicated and even scientific. Its not as easy as some may think but Ive been painting cars for 13 years. Just saw your video BTW.
How do you polish an nes? I work in a bodyshop so I'm no stranger to buffing and polishing, but my nintendo has a textured surface. I'm assuming that one did aswell at some point. Do you sand it smooth or what?
@DonkeyPunchin Good ?. Some of the earlier released NES's did not have the rough texture. Instead they were smooth all over. This was one of them so it was easier to sand and buff. You could do it with a textured one but it would be a ton of work.
im gonna buy and nes off my friend and i might need to do the same and this is gonna sound funny for me to ask you this but whats the best sandpaper to use and buff cause i might have to do the same thing
The way it was meant to look. Very sleek. Very nice. Very NES, lol. What you have done here is slapped matte finish in the face. In this case, that is good!
I dont market these because it takes a special NES to be able to do this. One that has a smooth top instead of grainy and they are hard to come by. I could do it with the regular grainy texture top but it would be ALOT of work.

what kind of wax did you use to buff?
affansonicfan 1 year ago
@affansonicfan Buffing compound, not wax. Its 3M Finesse it II but its $35 a bottle and you need 2 stages of it.
jayrod2 1 year ago
@jayrod2 is the buffing compound what gives all your mods that great shine?

I'd just do it the easy way and use some armor all. Less effort. Wow thats nice and shiny!
stvlu733 3 years ago
That wouldnt work. How would it be shiny if you dont sand down the grainy texture on top? Plus, it would slip out of your hands LOL!
jayrod2 3 years ago
OMG! THATS AMAZING!
NewTyhuss 3 years ago
Thanks! It took alot of buffing!
