1984 Toyota 4X4 Pickup Rumbling Exhasut & Engine Rev 4WD 22R with Updates

I picked up an '84 single cab, long bed. This truck has issues, head gasket leaks, transmission is stuck in gear, knuckle bearings need rebuilding, wiring is old and all over the place, emergency brake doesn't work; the list goes on. My plans are to rebuild it like this, only paint it cammo. Could you give me some websites that you've ordered from before? I'm having trouble finding any that sell parts. Thanks, Joe

I have a 84 pickup with similar engine mods but mine is bored out to a 3.0 and wont idle cold for the life of itself i think i need to burn a hotter ignition anyone know if that will help with cold idle?

Buy some POR15. Take the bed off, flip it upside down and coat it. Then do the same with the rockers, then go over the POR15 with herculiner :)

i got 85 im building up trying to find the fine line between street legal and rock crawler. if i were you tho i would upgrade to crossover steering maybe even high steer too and the powersteering made a huge difference on mine

does anyone know where i can find some new plastics for the inside of the cab? the plastic that is around the keyhole on the steering wheel is starting to decay and i need some new ones. also the plastic area down by the feet(by the fuse box) is starting to decay too. the previous owner was a smoker and the plastic is all cracking and crumbling away.

letting a few small rust spots go to rusting the whole bed out is kinda lazy if you ask me. your local parts store should sell a product called "dyno hair" just sand out the rust spots spread some dyno hair (a fiberglass/bondo mixture) smooth in the rusted out spots and sand down smooth... its what the pros use restoring old cars and trucks. dont let that truck rust away its too nice for that

Just got a 85 4x4 extra cab with the 22re. I think I paid a little 2 much 2250.00 its got a lot of miles 300,000. But thats ok,its got a good frame and the motor run good with no smoke and its a automatic. may replace it with a standard trans. Its stock, I was wondering what size tires to put on it.

Im actually fixing to buy a 83 toyota sitting on 35'' inch tires. It has a 3'' inch body life and a 6'' inch suspension on it. That thing is a monster. They only thing different is the guy put a 305 small block v8 in it lol so there goes my mpg's hahah but ummm i seen them trucks look good with 33's on it, I really wouldnt go any less.

@brandonkr I ran it down the back of the cab and under on the back passenger side to a rubber gromet and cut a x out on the gromet and ran it up that way to the radio.

Google "eb 268 vs stock cam" I think the 261 would be better for what i'm doing.

Stock vs performance carbs make a huge difference, stock is going for "acceptable" power, where as AM carbs go for efficiency and power...

Thanks anyway, i have a weber 32/36 on my 4 runner and i get 18-20 mpg with 4.88 gears and 33'' tires. It runs great, i started it today after sitting for 2 weeks, hit the gas once, and it fired right up. Sweet truck you have. I have some vids on here, check them out.

To be honest, I have no clue on what brand the cam is but the mechanic that rebuilt the engine said it was a mid size cam and the truck runs great! It sucks the fuel like crazy but that is due to both barrells are open and the choke is all screwy. I have a Webber that i will be getting tomorrow "Christmas day" and hipefully I will get it on in the next week or two and Ill make a video of that also and mabey the install.

Haven't installed em yet, but I've got the EB 261 cam and their Street / RV head to go on the truck. How do you like the 268? according to their ebay page, the 261 is sportier than the 268, having a little more top-end and a bit of chatter on idle so it doesn't sound stock. Wondering if I am making a good decision by installing these parts

I really dunno the history of it other than the previous owner, he was a teen and ran the crap out of it. It looked this good when I bought it from him. I do have 3 or 4 spots of rust above the front windshield and back windshield. I want to get that fixed and if the bed rust out, then flat bed here we come.

The puff of smoke you saw come out of the exhaust is where my stock Asian Carb has a messed up choke and other probs, it loads up and uses the hell out of gas. I have a good ole Webber on the way and that should fix her right up and fix the crappy gas millage and me having to hold the throtle on it when it is cold, as in 32 or 33 degrees outside cold. If I have cranked it and go back to crank it in 3 to 4 days, she will fire right up and idle fine, any more setting than that..no go hold the gas.
