This was such a wonderful surprise...Roger McGuinn was not named on the bill, so no one expected him to appear. Ben Bridwell and Tyler Ramsey opened this song without identifying it clearly so that the audience could enjoy the moment of McGuinn sweeping onto the stage and strapping on his 12-string. Ramsey and Bridwell did an outstanding job of keeping the music flowing without spoiling the treat. Thank you so much.
Looks like he didn't attempt the usual guitar solo for this song. Note that McGuinn has a capo on the first fret. He normally down-tunes his 12-string to E-flat and he probably had to capo it up one note to match all the other instruments. My guess is that he didn't want to make any mistakes and played it a bit careful on the solo part. Sounded good in any case!
Sounds great. His band mates look like they are from an early 1970s incarnation of the Byrds. I agree, though, would have been nice for Hillman and Crosby to be there.
Roger was a hit! I don't even believe he was listed on the bill. He was over in the corner in black, in the dark. From the first chord there was no question as to who the mystery player was. There is no mistaking the double compressed 12 string Ric. A GREAT evening.
Thank you for a really good video. What a night. mwill don't think you know who those "other guitar players "are. I believe the PBS film will show their talent . Arrangeing the sound in MSG has to be a nightmare, soulindiane did really well though. In the meantime check them out, I think you will be impressed, we were.
lol. George Harrison and Ringo Starr playing guitars by Rogers's side...

A beautiful song written by a great American. I'm so glad that Pete got to experience this tribute.
