The song is about war. Santos Espiritos means Holy Spirt (or holy ghost) in latin. The song is basicaly saying "Save us from ourselves". It is about how we all fight, and how we need to "Break free from chains of unbreaking agony." Get it?
The history part comes in, because the footage from the second word war is a good example of how we all fight with each-other and need to stop.
