  • I cried. Read "Boule de Suif" by Guy de Maupassant. It is my story. Check out my video, BRUCE HEALS. Jesus taught us love and mercy. He asked God for help, and a strong, Jesus-like person came and gave it. We have only to ask God directly. It is always heard, and no outcome is assured but we must ask sincerely for salvation and guidance. Love and mercy. Help a slave today. I did, and do.

  • Ben Hur is simply one of Charlton Heston's finest performance in his entire career. Quite possibly the godfather of all actors.

  • AWESOME SCENE!!!

  • oh and BTW the copyright laws have time limits and any film this old should not flag a copyright issue! stupid youtube censorship!

  • dang it's been like 30 years since I saw this! [wait did I just date myself? lol]

I think I will have to go to hulu and see if I can watch this whole thing again

    Refresh my faith!

  • I can't help but shed a tear when he asks God to help him and the shadow of Jesus falls on him. What a great scene.

  • What a great, great film.

  • Truly one of my favorite scenes in this movie....the second being when Judah returns Christ's kindness during the march to Calvary....watching Heston's face and seeing the torment on it....for me, it's not only the water that's given, but watching the gentleness of the comforting touch Jesus gives Judah....

  • Vielen vielen Dank.

  • @NoGuff

    gerne doch

  • I am a non-believer and this scene moves me haha.

  • Best scene in film history.

  • The revelation in the Roman guard's face of his own guilt and sin sumply by facing Christ is magnificent. I am moved to tears every time I see it. May Christ have mercy on the souls of the lost who view this and yest cannot really comprehend it.

  • When I hear Bach's Matthaus passion I am exited with the music and pictures in my head. Same goes for this clip. But after that exitement comes irony. My rationality is guarding me because I know that someone can without much trouble exploit such pure feeling. Beleivers often don't separate art from faith. So they watch cheap movies about Jesus ore attack Peckinpah's Wild Bunch in Kansas city premiere. In my heart I feel religious exitement, in my mind I attack it. Good movies in the middle.

  • Scene is powerfull but all we have is images. Same goes for some other ideas that are basically irational. Kids would beleive but wouldn't beleive in emptiness. I too can not accept emptiness, but i can't accept god either. Maybe I must be desperate as Ben Hur, maybe I have to suffer to know what despair is and then embrace the Lord. I dont know. To cry of joy and to mock god are things that come close to each other. And even by mocking I accept god. Reaction shots. No face no banality. Shame.

  • Thanks for watching, and your comment. I don't believe I'm getting your meaning, though.

  • @zozmanpfc IN ART THERE IS ALSO TRUTH

  • One of the greatest depictions of Jesus ever. This is the only time I have seen in a film the power of Christ to convict a sinner and make even the strongest willed person wither in shame. I would give anything to see that in person.

  • @labrat257 Ditto. :)

  • yeh.. this is realy good movie.. and also a good actor^^

  • Jesus to the rescue!

  • mighty

  • Best cameo ever.

  • jajajajajajajaja!!! You are so right

  • Yes , this scene will rank as one of the greatest ever on celluloid. Very powerful, and cpabale of extreme impac. This is called the art of extreme movie making .

    THANKS NoGuff

  • NoGuff - Well said in your description of the film. I completely agree with your assessment of the power of Jesus in this film, as well as Heston's amazing acting. Between Walace and Wyler, a masterpiece!

  • Esta escena sin palabras resume el poder de Dios que viene a ayudarnos cuando más lo necesitamos. Que linda escena de BenHur con Jesús.

  • Jesus is the man!!!

  • I wish Youtube would stop taking movies off...

  • The Romans were hardasses.

  • Quando tydo parece perdido, ALGUÉM lhe dará a chance de um futuro melhor!

  • 4:16 the power of God. He didn't know that he was in front of something greater than him

  • I love this movie and all bible classics from the 1950's out of respect and reverance you never see Christ's face you see the results in the face of the other person. The roman soldier didn't need to speak it is as if Jesus was looking directly into his soul the soldier knew he was wrong. These old classics can't be beat out by new movies. This is a 3 hour movie that is moving pulls at your emotions and holds your attention throughout.

  • IF ONLY...

  • amazing that this film was made by Jews,

BARUC HABA MA SHAM ADONAI, YESHUA haMASSIACH

  • There aren't any reliable historical descriptions of the physical appearance of Jesus, but I like this one;(Josephus?)"He was dark, black hair, tall, with piercing eyes...," Of course being born in the Middle East he would look like everyone else, not some fair-haired Renaissance portrait. Also being a carpenter by trade,he would be physically powerful,as carpenters had to cut down & hew lumber from trees themselves.

  • (cont.)NOBODY ever laid a hand on Jesus, until his arrest, no matter if they were enraged by His claims to be the Son of God.He threw the money changers out of the temple,no resistance there; what if you or I tried tossing out 20+ men with money, tables, etc?? And "piercing eyes"?....,I can't imagine!

  • The most powerful scene in movie history and 4:16 the most impressive "un-dialogue" ever...

  • I love that scene! Awesome. He felt that he had encountered something much bigger than himself!

  • "I love the way that the Roman Soldier was so thoroughly and decisively PUNKED!!!"

--I don't think you understand the scene at all. No one played a prank on the soldier.

  • can someone tell me why the soldier didnt say anything to jesus when he looked at his face?

  • I think the idea here is the soldier suddenly felt small and insignificant because he somehow sensed that he was in the presence of something far greater then his self.

  • Because he was no challenge to God as a man, and he didn't even know why

  • ok after watching the clip i gotta say that was soo epic.and even though iam not a christian and know nothing about the bible or the christian mythology

  • damn i need to watch this movie.i read the book ben-hur as a kid but cant remember anything about it and even though this movie pretty old it still looks good than most of the cgi filled movie crap that we have now days.*cough* transformers 2 cough*

  • One of the best scenes ever. I like how you never see Jesus face. You get to use your own imagination as regards to how he looked. It's more powerful that way. I also liked how Jesus appeared to have a strong physique. After all he was a carpenter. That's a tough job now, never mind back then when there were no power tools. Most of the time he is portrayed as a very feminine, frail looking individual who talks slow like David Carradine on Kung fu. BORING! The Bible says he was a dynamic speaker.

  • dale, you are so right. That's why I think this is the best portrayal of Jesus in any movie.

It's so strong and pure. It's lack of dialog and a shot of his face only add to it's power. And the kindness in his heart comes through perfectly in his hands.

He not only gave him water to replenish his mind, body, & soul, he stroked his head lovingly like a father would with his young child. Simply brings tears to my eyes.

Can you believe YT tried to take this video down due to music copyright?

  • It reminds me of the account in the Bible where Jesus cures a leper. It says in the gospels that Jesus touched the man and he was cured. Jesus could have easily cured him without touching him just as he had cured others. It must have meant so much to that leper to have someone actually touch him without fear or disgust. Who knows the last time the man had any physical human contact. Jesus did everything for a reason. He knew what was needed in every situation.

  • Can't you just see God's love in the gentle caress of Judah's hair, His power in the face of the soldier and His longing for us as He watches Judah walk away. What powerful, powerful scene. All you see is Jesus' back and yet you can feel his heart wanting Judah to be saved from his pain. And yet understand that the depth of the reality of His love can never, ever be captured on film. Wow!

  • Great scene, the roman soldier shit him self. thats a pure example of if looks could kill..

  • Transparent anti-Roman, slave morality propaganda. What happened when the slaves, women and child-mystics finally took control of civilization? 1000 years of darkness, barbarism and social retardation; 1000 years without a bath. Disgusting. SPQR

  • To the lions with thee!!!

  • Charlton Hestons Autobiography goes into detail about the actors involved....Read and you will get a big surprise.

  • great movie, a timeless classic & probably hestons best.

  • Nothing can stand against the Almighty!

  • WOW what a powerful scene! I saw this movie as a child and all I remember are the chariot races, and when Ben Hur is taken in by the sheep herder, I think, and races for him. After that scene I'm going to have to watch it again. Thanks NoGuff

  • This is my dad's favorite movie. Awesome video.

  • Great movie! It's one of my favorite classics.Heston is one of my favorite actors. Thanks .

  • i wonder who the long haired guy was.. ;)

  • This is one of my favorite all-time movies, NoGuff.

And this is an often-forgotten segment of it.

We hear & see a simple Carpenter in the foreground, stopping his work...our first clue of what this scene will behold.

Although we are not shown His face, Wyler gives a masterful depiction of His Grace, as He defies the Roman guard's order and restores Judah's weary body and spirit.

And the Roman's reaction to Christ's face further enhances the scene.

    I love Charlton Heston. RIP.

    Thanks!

  • Miss Seeker I toally agree. In my humble opinion, its the best depiction of Jesus Christ in all of cinema. I shed tears every time I come to this scene in the film.

We all experience times where we are overwhelmed by the world & are at the end of our rope. Though we usually dont suffer as he does here, we still feel hopeless.

Turning to our Faith we can find the strength to endure. In this scene there's no dialog for that other than Judan's last line, even though the scene is all about it.

  • "Thank you so much NoGuff."

--Thank you! I only now finished finalizing the text and here you are!

  • Thank you so much NoGuff.

I've always been such a huge fan of Charlton Heston and Ben Hur.

One of the greatest movies ever!
