@omotigre2004 He also joked with Mansell later telling him; "You're completely mad, but not too bad for an old man!". They both really enjoyed this battle
I got this on DVD...when the coverage begins,Bob says "You see everything you need to know"...when SPEED re-captured the race in 2004,Bob said absolutely the same :)
And of course the most famous words on ESPN ever "Get´s it sideways(under power)" by Derek Daly :))
This is yet another prime example of Alesi's wet weather talents. Try as he may lap after lap Mansell could not get past him. The very next year at Suzuka Alesi would again amaze us in the wet. He had a great chance to win except for the situations he found himself in.
swistral you are spot on, Alesi was a great racer, he had the speed the flair the personality and better still the balls, us gp at phoenix is supernatural, ive seen many videos of senna where he comes out best in a battle but i have never seen anyone take it to senna like alesi did. ALESI=LEGEND
Mansell never lost his nerve. Did you see how closely he came to missing the corner when he finally got behind Alesi? Wow, amazing that he still had it at age 43. Some drivers simply burn out completely before they even hit 38.
By the way, the season is 1994 because Nigel came back for a few races to replace Coulthard. He was still racing for Newman Haas in F.Indy. Poorly... He wanted to return back in F1...
You never watched the 1994 Indy Car season did you? The Lola was a worthless piece of trash. The Penske and Reynard chassis blew the Lolas away on all of the tracks so Nigel didn't have a chance of winning with that car. They won 15 of the 16 races on the schedule. It's Paul Newman's own fault for failing to get a decent chassis that season. Of course Nigel lost interest and was offered over $3 million to come back to Williams. I think the choice was obvious there.
Two great champions, sportsmen and persons in action. Unfortunately, people like Jean or Nigel doesn't exist in modern F1, with the notable exception of Alonso and Bourdais...
Yes Bourdais. He's a straightalking guy, intellectuel, fair and a real racer. With a better suited car he would sure do much more. Don't forget the guy has won 4 champ car titles, his class in Sebring with Panoz (he beat Ferrari) and was 2nd this year in Le Mans. He is not Vettel but he deserves more. And he's a real personality, not fake like Hamilton...
Dear... Freddy! I didn't compare them. I just said that F1 lacks personalities and noone can doubt Alonso's or Bourdais' strong and straightalking personalitites. And I should add Heidlfeld too. He is also very moderate and it's a pitty for him not to have won a race yet...
maybe i should not say 'compare', but 'accost' alonso to bourdais. i haven't had way to know the capacity in and out the circuit of bourdais since he race in f1, and it's for this that i didn't understand why you 'accosted' to alonso. instead i know that alonso had a great personality even he raced for minardi. that's all folks
I was at this race- I watched Berger in the pits post race pulling a cute jap race queen- she was holding an umbrella for him-he asked her to cut his cigar then invited her back to his motorhome for schnaps(and off they went)- i witnessed the whole thing
Mansell was reeeeeeally agressive and was really smooth, i like Mansell a lot! but he had retired in 92, so... Alesi raced against an retired! hahaha, nice one! :)
Also Mansell hadn't the spirit that year, he raced how many races? 3 ? Indy was a lot different... he lost the precision of F1 for the speed of Indy.
but its still Mansell! come on! a real battle there :D
That was a great battle between two real gladiators. Lap after lap Mansell kept trying and Jean just kept braking later. Proper clean racing. Two amazing drivers, both adored by the tifosi...
the rothmans colour scheme on the 94 williams car, was the best looking of the season, better looking than the yellow white and blue of the canon and camel layout.
it cant be 1994 because mansell retired in 1992 after he won the championship. he went to indycar in 1993/4. williams' line up was damon hill and ayrton senna at the start of 94 but senna was tragically killed, and david coulthard took over his empty seat, but never replaced him. that said nobody ever has
Well I don't really remember a lot anymore of this GP aside of this tremendous duel. If you could give a link where I could download this, that would be great.

Do you have a full copy of this race at Suzuka 1994, wherein Damon Hill won followed by Schumi, Alesi and Mansell. In fact I am more interested with the battle of Alesi and Mansell, I just need the full race. I would appreciate if you may heed my request
And in 1995 Jean made this! youtube.com/watch?v=mgTG5odx8fg

in the others categories he has won titles, but in f1 his skill it's still covert, and for me it's strange compare Bourdais with Alonso.

It doesn't get any better.
