This whole concert, their last, is now up on YouTube. Just do a search for "Texas Playboys" and "1986". They were an incredible band, made up of first-rate veteran musicians who could still send all of us to the woodshed. Would love to see a DVD of this concert issued. And it's time someone wrote an Eldon Shamblin method book.
Greatest rhythm guitarist who ever lived!...And not too bad a "lead" player from this video!! I've played for 40+ years and this guy would play "chords" that I had NEVER seen!!! Once in a lifetime player right there!! Thanks for posting this....
This is a nice video. Thanks for posting it. Which records are best for listening to Eldon's guitar work? It seems like a lot of the Bob Wills stuff I've heard, he's kinda buried under the rest of the group, and just about everyone BUT Eldon plays a solo.
one of my idols , eldon was a sweet ol picker, i was about 18 when i met him he told me to play what i felt , and play for the song, 2 pieces of advice i still cling to, that was around 1973 my best friend steve was married to his daughter missy, we talked about music , and jammed alot at his house on king pl. in tulsa, he taught me so much, rip eldon you were 1 of a kind
Look at the way Eldon incorporates bass runs so effortlessley with chord voicings up and down the neck and his flawless sense of swing-that should provide years of homework assignments for the rest of us guitar players!
i knew mr. shamblin, met him in turkey texas way back when. nice guy.

Jimi Hendrix used to listen to this guy and called him a "pretty heavy guitar player" once in an interview.

Check out that Fender Strat he's using. It's one of the most important guitars ever made! Eldon was the MAN and will be surely missed.
