yup, its pretty much the same stuff in fire extinguishers (the little red cylinders)... except the ones at gas stations can actually burn you skin its so powerful...
Also, so it's clear to everyone: That is a dry chemical. Probably Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3), which would be advantageous because it's almost entirely non-toxic and works quite well on burning liquids.
Actully that is about 100 pounds of dry chemical surpressant. Not Co2. These two people died of suffocation, which is why unless you are homicidal or suicidle you should never activate this.
@mondayfool you should check, even in my country there are systems like that, i haven't seen them in function (i'm sure they won'r work if required) but there are big red buttons on my gas stations in Mexico
O.M.F.G are you retarded? Carbon Dioxide is about as flammable as water. Can you live breathing pure Carbon Dioxide? No. Maybe you breathe too much carbon dioxide. C-carbon O-oxygen 2-2 molecules of oxygen. 1 part carbon, 2 parts oxygen. That's flammable. Pure Oxygen is flammable, and pure carbon is just carbon. Together, it neutralizes the usable oxygen, because the chemical bonds act in a certain manner. I wonder if you can even comprehend this. You'd flunk fire academy, so don't try...
Ha ha! That happened to me at the nearby Irving today and I was wondering what it was. A maintenance man was fiddling around with the electronics in the canopy up above and triggered the talc.
I was watching the guy on the left waiting for something to happen. Didn't see that coming at all.

They didn't die at the end you can see the guy that pushed the button return.
cLa007 2 years ago
they did not die immediately, they went to the hospital for suffocation, (it was on the news)
if i can find the related articles i will pm links to you if you want me to.
BioHazTech 2 years ago 2
wow, that is a complete lie. may i ask how u know this??
GarethMcCarthy1 2 years ago
First off they did not die immediately, they went to the hospital for suffocation, (it was on the news)
Second, the system uses co2 to push the chemical out but the co2 itself is not used to extinguish the fire.
if i can find the related articles i will pm links to you if you want me to.

i really do not believe they died, no.
i think they fled.

now i WANT to press the red button at a gas station..........
briR101 2 years ago
Could you get away untouched if you were VERY fast? Or could the button be pressed with an airgun :D
mondayfool 2 years ago
@mondayfool no, the button requires too much presure, you need to hit it with something more powerful than an airgun
Hsilamot 2 years ago
@Hsilamot Thats too bad :D
I don't think we have these kind of systems here though, but it'd be pretty fun to snipe from the bushes with a BB gun. Bullseye!

As others have said... CO2 is completely inflammable. CO2 is the result of combustion itself.

If it had been CO2 those guys would be dead. CO2 is leathal in the concentrations used for fixed fire extinguishing systems
osten1972 2 years ago
that is if you are stupid enough to stand around breathing it in. I'd imagine at the first spraying they were running.
