Hey, hasn't anyone noticed that compared to their other vids, this early rehearsal actually makes them look human? Dee Dee never takes his eyes off the fretboard. Joey's voice is nothing compared to what it will become and check out the last few seconds...at some point Dee Dee loses his shoulder strap for f%$k sakes. If you don't think you can do anything with some serious hard work and practice you are just fooling yourself. God bless these 4.
All of that crappy "heavy metal" of the Eighties was the music of the Enemies of Punk, the weasels who were too square and mentally deficient to ever get into Punk. It was garbage then and it is garbage now. The garbage people ran to Plastic Cheese Metal like frightened cockroaches, it became their Putrid and Rotting Refuge. Metal became as stupid as dirt, and it is the same today.
@wonderlin1 I wrote that when I was in a bad mood. Heavy Metal is not all bad, Zep did a few good things, Motorhead wrote a great song about the Ramones. But by and large, I think Metal took the easy way out, they became commercial and mainstream in most cases. Not a very courageous stand. The metal bands are not my cup of tea, because they don't say much profound, just put some sugar on it, honey, and dirty deeds done dirt cheap, and so what? At least Punk tries to be relevant.
@khattamshud I was thinking more like Bon Jovi and Metallica. I have nothing against Heavy Metal really, except that it comes across sometimes more like a business than a statement.
@khattamshud overall, metal is the more widely accepted form of rebellion through music, thus being commercialized. If you don't believe me, watch movies from the 80's. Metal music is all over that. Watch 90's movies and tell me if you hear more punk than metal. Watch movies with rebellious kids now and tell if you hear more punk than metal. Face it dude, metal is very commercial... whether or not there's an underground scene, it's still more accepted over punk
@khattamshud if you're associating Blink 182, Green Day, Good Charlotte, My Chemical Romance or any of that SHIT in as punk... then I would have to agree with you. However those aren't punk bands.
@Antnj81 It depends largely of the genre of metal. Some of the subgenres are very extreme in both expression and appearance while the supporters watch commercially more acceptable bands with derision and as sell outs. But in general, every time a kid pics up an electric guitar and aunties get worried there's something in it :)
The quackers who don't like the Ramones are just pissed because all their favorite bands died an abrupt death when the Ramones came out. Bye bye Country Rock and Progressive Rock, you went belly up and died, haha! Fusion Jazz was cut off and died. DISCO died, the greatest triumph! The people with the worst musical taste quit rock and went to video games. Their cheesy descendants are the ones mocking the ramones now. Because the Ramones destroyed their cheesy world and I'm glad!
Seeing them at the Roxy in 1976 was like witnessing the Second Coming of Christ. The Ramones' first show in L.A. was the most exciting Rock 'n Roll moment of my life. The audience was euphoric afterwards, we knew we had witnessed a Miracle. People were laughing, cheering, crashing into walls. Such happiness. Rock was saved from Death for all time. The Ramones are looking down from heaven now with mixed feelings. They totally won the culture war. Every damned commercial on TV sounds like them now
@surfer1104 You need to go read up about The Ramones, if it wasn't for the Ramones we would not have the majority of the music we are listening today!!! Also they are in the Rock N Roll : Hall of Fame !!!
Yeah punk's gone pompourus just like Rock did it's itself in the 70's. It's all far left politics......not JUST far left politics but hypocritcal far left politics. Like go buy an anarchy shirt from some company owned by neo-cons hypocrtical and fuck corporations.....but corporations made them those amps. Lets go buy a bunch of hair dye. Johnny said punk should be centered or right wing. Punk is a right-wing state of mind. It's about living life how YOU want to not saving the rain forest.
i'm doing co-op at my school this year and i'm a teacher's assistant for the music teacher in a grade nine class and part of my summative is to teach a music history lesson on any band/artist/composer of my choice and i picked the ramones :) i'm super excited! :)
I know right! and then these new age punkers come in and say, "they suck but i respect them because they started punk." and I say, "FUCK YOU, YOU DIRTY WANKER!" lol
It's so incredible that people back then said they were no good because they couldn't play their instruments! But they totally took minimalism and made something so powerful out of it, a proper "accomplished" band couldn't replicate it if they tried! Johnny Ramone is one of my favorite guitarists ever because his style was one of a kind for the time. No one else was playing like that and probally couldn't, they'd get too tired. Johnny was relentless on that thing!
I did lighting for them at the fastlane in Asbury Park-Went out and bought all new gels(great colors)They walked in while I was checking out system and yelled get those gels out of those cans--Just pure brite white light!
Johnny never could play lead guitar, but he made up for it by playing that fast rhythm that was almost more like drumming. His wrist must've been tired by the end of those gigs.
A great basic early Ramones riff, this is the type of tune that built a foundation of really good solid jams from these guys. I sure miss them. But they will never be forgotten.
I think they passed the audition.
