Hey! for window 7 , just go to "organise", "Folder and search options". "view" then untick the "Hide extension for known file types". I've got the same problem as you before. Hope it helps! XD

Itunes 8 let me stick a m.4a file in the ringtone folder, and when I checked the file it said mp4r not mp4a, so it automatically changed it I guess.

I did nothing but covert from MP3 and opened in Itunes.

you have to enable extentions so u can see file extentions such as .exe .jpg .mp3 and so on

then u will see the extention of the song u formated to ACC and change the extention to .m4r

If U want 2 make ringtones out of any songs on ur pc including tunes from video's & movies, The easiest way that I've found is called iringer! It is so easy! U go 2 the iringer website, download iringer and u r set 2 go! U can choose a song from any file on you pc, clip it & click one button to add it to your itunes!!! Yeah it really is that easy! 3 Clicks & then u just sync ur iphone 2 ur pc & itunes will upload 2 ur phone! Try it! IT WO RKS!

u need to go to option setting to change it to AAC [Edit>preference.import settings> AAC Encoder. Then after that u can have option to create AAC version when u right click.

For everyone that doest work..MAKE SURE the ringtones are LESS than 35 SEC, or else it WONT SHOW inside your iPHONE even though it sync perfectly and showed under itunes.

I just did it using iTunes 8.0.1

Make sure the song is under 40 seconds using media start and stop time in the info of the song. Sync Ringtones wasn't working for me so I checked manually manage music and videos on the summary tab.

if it does use another wave editor it dont have to be mine. and then save it as a 30 sec song and then follow the steps again. it might be just the editor that saves it bad. try another one.

It works. itunes: 7.6.2, iphone: 1.1.4. But for some reason I had to delete the AAC file in the music tab of itunes first, then proceed with adding the file (2:45 of video). Otherwise, when I add the file to library, the file won't be added to my ringtones tab. Good luck. Thanks man.
