I have, after 40 years really listened to these words...

"I look and you're not there"
"I need to know you"

Rather than a song about a man who simply can't find the proper words (due to whatever) to say to someone who is his lover, it's a song about someone with love ready to give to and share with someone who has not come into his life yet. Idealized love or whatever, it's still a longing, a profound longing.
i think it can be interpreted either ways, either someone waiting for that special someone to come along, or someone who is in love with someone that they have trouble confessing to.
Look at the words.....it may appear that it has to do with not being able to express love, BUT if he hasn't even found her, looks and she's not there, needs to know her, is sad that she's not there, then "she" is still his idealized love. If it's what you suggest, then it's a lady who's really busy and he only sees her once and awhile...that seems absurd! HOW can he tell her that he loves her? He can't! She's not there and has not come into his life. That view fits the song's profound mood .
The Cat Stevens tribute is simply beautiful! Did you make it 'cause if you did I want to compliment you. I'd love to have the original if possible. I'm a song writer in my own write (pun) along the lines of Cat Stevens and James Taylor. I look a lot like James Taylor. Sublime... this man sounds like he sings love itself. Sometimes I feel that God speaks through him, and through people like him.
And I'm not even religious. Speechless might well be the word indeed.

This song make me wish that I could turn back the hands of time to reverse those decisions that have cost me so dear, maybe then this song wouldn't amplify the emptiness. Maybe in the next life eh :-)

"sad that you can't hear"
"I look and you're not there"
"I need to know you"
"hope that I might find you"
Rather than a song about a man who simply can't find the proper words (due to whatever) to say to someone who is his lover, it's a song about someone with love ready to give to and share with someone who has not come into his life yet. Idealized love or whatever, it's still a longing, a profound longing.

i think it can be interpreted either ways, either someone waiting for that special someone to come along, or someone who is in love with someone that they have trouble confessing to.

Look at the words.....it may appear that it has to do with not being able to express love, BUT if he hasn't even found her, looks and she's not there, needs to know her, is sad that she's not there, then "she" is still his idealized love. If it's what you suggest, then it's a lady who's really busy and he only sees her once and awhile...that seems absurd! HOW can he tell her that he loves her? He can't! She's not there and has not come into his life. That view fits the song's profound mood .

The Cat Stevens tribute is simply beautiful! Did you make it 'cause if you did I want to compliment you. I'd love to have the original if possible. I'm a song writer in my own write (pun) along the lines of Cat Stevens and James Taylor. I look a lot like James Taylor. The shot with the girl and her dog is simply gorgeous; well the whole thing is just wonderful! The roses on the steps are very dramatic. I have a song called Everything Changes I'll post soon.
