I live in Epsom in the UK. We have lots of horses hear because of the race track and hacks. I have heard people talking about this problem. But people are making money and as money is god in the US I don’t see this getting fixed any time soon. I would like to think I am wrong. But I know its not going to change. Not a good advert for New York and lets face it the city doesn’t have a greatest world wide rep as it is. :-(
Aside from one carriage/auto accident (which is an accident not abuse) there is nothing that shows abuse. They are healthy looking, they've been use to outdoor weather since the first horse existed. If concern is about stables/ traffic, have the city give up a portion of central park for stables and pasture. People for banning should be willing to either pay for their upkeep for their remaining years or should attend their slaughter when no one else is willing to do that.
