@guilleu hey thanks for the comment, and you know what, you're right, when I watch this back now the only thing I'd really change was that, not have him look at the camera. cheers.
De Amnesiac no se pueden olvidar Dollars & Cents, Like Spinning Plates y Life in a Glasshouse.
Excelente grupo sí, pero todas las canciones se acomodan a diferentes percepciones.
Yet another one... it took me quite a while to realize this wasn't the original! You probably got Thom Yorke himself thinking when do they ordered this.
Heard a song by Civil Twilight this morning that sounds too much like a stripped down version of this. Its called Letters from the Sky. Between this and 'Faster' by Matt Nathanson - I'm beginning to think that copyright laws are far too lapsed and 'creative' types are getting far too lazy.
This is an absolutely brilliant video, Keir. Congratulations! The acting, the cutting, the photography; everything is absolutely fantastic. I hope we'll see more like this from you.
Hey that was a neat video! I thought it was actually an official video... well done! And of course the song is great too... I had a strange urge to listen to it just now.
nice! I LOVE this song. I would get home from fishing in AK & hop a train from Seattle to Spokane in the middle of the night & play this album. The music was so perfect for a dark, eerie train ride home after a long, long trip away....
A test music promo to Optimistic, by Radiohead. Thanks so much to the 4 great actors, working for nothing at 3am in icy January in London. To Adam, for lending me your camera, cheers dude, and to Dédé, ta babes, for organising everything. One day - one day we'll make something for more than the cost of a Big Mac. Literally. Thanks folks.
whats with this tackyhipster asshole no offense but its not that big of a deal just listen to the song enjoy and forget about anger. its nothing to yell about.guess maybe he livesup to his name "hipster"
This is complete bullshit. This song is about finding a source of HOPE that makes you feel that what the main character of the album (Kid A) is going through is terrifying and turbulent through the horrors of a nation being demolished by war, and his intense emotions overwhelming his sanity. Kid A feels dazed and confused when the song "In Limbo" comes before "Optimistic". And optimistic means he stands up from the Purgatorial Vertigo, and becomes a choir of angels by himself.
The director of the video is completely unknowing of the world and accepts a slight scene of somebody they consider sad to be that they are sad because they do drugs. 'Don't do drugs' isn't what Radiohead is about. This main character with the guitar looks directly at the camera, and his ineffectual and cynical rage is completely bullshit as in stress about people he doesn't love or care about, but wants to show you sorrow. While someone like Kid A doesn't fight crackheads for ten bucks, but...
...but the fuckhead seems like he'd rather slip the world a little lethal injection and pat it on the head thinking that they saved it, when Kid A will get up and fight like a saint, an angel of HOPE, and if he has to a God of Just. So FUCK YOU, because a puppy found, and a sad giggle isn't the way HOPE saves the world.
I love how all these fucked up comments get thumbed down, but I'm really laughing my ass of at how the guy who said "Sounds like Foo Fighters" got 11 thumbs down, while "Fucken nerds..." get 9. Really shows you how ridiculous that comparison is.
Anyhow, I love the video really captures the essence of the song, and the mood. Great video for a great song
I never really listened to Radiohead (my ex gf was a big fan) but heard this song the other day and it's pretty interesting, seems like he's being sarcastic in the lyrics to me.
The best you can is your natural limit, you'll never be completely free to do what you want, so your potential and ability determines the size of your prison.
Saying its good enough is sarcastic, so in effect this song presents a shred of optimism surrounded by bleak pessimism, atleast thats what i heard it as.
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! I LOVE Radiohead and I LOVED this! The man who dropped the groceries made me sad. I don't know why, but seeing old people sad always makes me cry...
Though a bleak interpretation of the track, this vid was sublime in execution. Great editing, directing & I really felt the mood they were going for. Also thought it was a nice touch @ 2:13 to add the sound effect. You guys rock.
I think this is actually one of the first comments I've ever left on YouTube, but I am an avid lover of Thom Yorke and Radiohead and this song and I was just so moved by this that I had to add another props to your unanimous supporters here. When this song came out, I was roaming the streets w/ my boyfriend at the time experimenting on drugs at all hours of the night, and the atmosphere of the places in the video took me back- back then I was in a downward spiral too and this song made me feel that there were better days ahead. I cried when I saw this- thank you for reminding me how far I've come from those days. Great job!

Oh god it brings it all back, I know just how she feels! I lost a dog and spent weeks putting posters up and searching back streets of Birmingham... Seeing that guy toking stone made me realise how much danger I put my self in with some of the places I went looking! I just didn't care at the time, I was so heart broken...
you do realize that the point of the video however was to show that someone was putting lots of effort into finding that dog and yet nobody really cared about the street people? I mean, you don't suppose this video or the song was about the perils involved in looking for a dog?

All interpretations of Radiohead are correct...
I don't feel like anyone is wrong when they share what they believe this music means.
When you release art or music into the world, you can not change how others experience it, what they take from it or how it inspires them...
That is the beauty of creation.
