@manu19252 That is totally unrelated to the argument that "black people are still opressed in our nation" nobody is arguing that opression once occured; however, times have changed and blacks are NOT opressed by the US government. And I don't see how you can undermine the simple fact that the leader of our nation is dark skinned. Let's not forget Irish, Italians, etc were also once opressed in the U.S does that mean they are still being opressed today? I don't think so.

@UofMgoblue2012 It's is because they were allowed to be white and have white priviledges after emancipation, whereas blacks could not. You can't necessarily see if someone walking towards you is Irish or Italian, but you can tell when they are black and treat them accordingly. I don't remember any laws against Irish or Italians...I do remember Jim Crow Laws. Try living as a black person in America before you open your stupid mouth. Your ignorance shows you understand nothing about blacks.

I doubt if you personally ever lived under Jim Crow Laws as did many African Americans. The fact is that every minority who came to this country encountered discrimination. Show me where they had there genitals cut off their bodies for just being Irish or Italian. This goes way beyond mere discrimination. And yes, I did grow under the Jim Crow Law mentality in Southern Louisiana in the early 70's. Just because you get rid of a law does not change a people's mentality,...when you want to go somewhere, but aren't allowed to.

That does not take away the pain that the African Americans have suffered at the hands of hateful men. I can't show you photos of these events because photography had not been invented until the late 1830's and was not wide spread until the mid 1860's but it did happen and has been written about. Unfortunately Blacks are not the only race who have suffered and they will not be the last .

Well the christian aid foundation charity in Switzerland buys back slaves from Arabs every year. They've been criticized for buying captives to release them because some say it merely encourages the practice to continue. They say, that the trade was going on for centuries and if they don't pay for these people they will suffer a worse fate.
So, it's a difficult problem. No muslims ever suggest stamping it out though because it is in the Qu'ran

I recently saw a documentary about such a slave girl who was taken and ended up in a rich Arab's home in London. She was held for eight years from 10 to 18 years of age when she escaped with the help of a passing man who was black like her and from the same country. They took her to the UK authorities and the story came out.

@Philodiogenes -- The Brits and French ended slavery too, but they were apart of the same train of Enlightenment thought that 1> lead to the idea slavery is evil, and 2> caused men to eliminate it. America did start the ball rolling in 1776 and had much more to overcome than the Brits (who brought the slaves to America, after all).
The point is they faced the monster and crushed it.
As to "terrorism", the reason for the problem is evil islamic ideas, not us.

@ORagnar Somersett's case emancipated slaves in England in 1772. Jefferson wrote the dec of independence and then bred with his slave. It is interesting that "evil" western actions and support for the state of Israel has managed to create a movement that is similar to european groups who were opposed to the "evils" of capitalism.
