WOW !!! where in the heck dod you dig this up ?!?! I remember both of them, but mostly the "chipmunk" voice one.. 40yrs old now... these are in my head forever... Old Sesame Street was incredible.
No kidding! I have an aunt who wouldn't let her kids watch because she said the Muppets were all hippies. Really, in fact, it was the grownups behind the show!
Not to mention that the 12 rocks coming forward are like the 12 disciples, and that the least among them to come forward, also the last, was somehow the greatest.
I ALWAYS loved this as a very young child. It didn't scare me for some reason (as an adult I wonder why). My mom says I would get very excited/happy when it was on. My 21 month old loves it too.
I found this piece pleasurable as a child as well. There's something...I dunno, satisfying?...about the texture of the rocks and the sound effects they made as the rocks rolled forward.
Despite the alteration, this reminds me of another stop-motion animation I'm in search of. I know I've said this before, but I bet someone eventually has it:
Seashells creating patterns on the sand, accompanied by music mostly played by violins. I hope someone has it in their archives.

Henson's "Ernie" voice.

I think my Catholic schooling filled in some gaps: this always reminded me of some Biblical crowd scene. Saying it aloud now, it's weird. :oP

Me too. I think of the stoning scene from Life of Brian.

SO nice when "the Street" wasn't so PC. Groundbreaking beats PC anyday!

Those rocks look just like Munchkins.

You're not talking about the sand table sequences with the catchy BANJO tunes, are you? (Just search sand table if you are.)

Yeah, what's going on here?
I liked the chipmunk-style voice better. I was fully accustomed with that in this skit.

Did you alter this? The sped up counting is the only version I ever remember seeing.

Wait a minute.Did you slow down the chipmunk voices from the rocks so you'd hear Jims voice?
wattamack4 4 years ago
Somehow, hearing Jim's unaltered voice here seems wrong...still, it's a five-star classic if I ever saw one.
