Amm I do my roll as its explained here but it still hurts either my shoulder or the bone behind my shoulder. Is this normal or am i doing somethin wrong ?
@xPark0ur a little below your shoulder there is a soft muscle part that you should land on instead of actually using your shoulder to hit the ground, its more of a transition, so use that soft part thats a little behind your shoulder. i couldnt roll on hard surfaces before, but i heard that i should do that and i tried it out, and it worked. lol. and make sure to roll diagonally!! otherwise you will hurt your spine. hope i helped.
@keithtuber very simple? speak for urself, theres a group of people like me called parkour retards, it means it takes us probably years just to learn something a parkourist will learn in a couple of monthes. (according to what some people say though)
@americanparkour hey dude i love your rolls, and im really frustrated to not getting the roll right, wud u go to my channel and just take a look?, if its too fast, u cud use the spacebar to stop at anytime or keep clicking it to make it go slow mo
I'll probably actually pay attention to what he's saying later. At the moment, I find it useful to see what he's doing exactly, to replicate it in practice, before adding your own style to it. Parkour is all about having your own unique style, based on what your strong at, and what you are covering.
in response to girisepic99 watch urban currents advanced roll tutorial for problems with the spine hurting, the tutorial also includes shoulder hip, knee, and ankle problems as well as different variations of the roll
@girisepic99 hi there, I'm just started to practice but already found out such thing as if you doing everything right, then you shouldn't get hurt. So, yes, you're doing something wrong.
@rockstargamesyay Had that prob too. Crouch to a deep squat (not very very) and try to get in it a lot sideways. By the time you start rolling think to hit the middle and right of back. It's a place where it has only muscles, you'll learn it by practise. When that place touches the ground (have your hands ahead and left) lean a bit forward and then again down. Make it sideways to understand the motion and move. After repetition you'll adjust it. Good luck and patience. Feel your body. :)
I started it on grass and on playgrounds where there are those rubber 1 foot thick mats. THey help to learn without the fear of hurting yourself too badly. And, I use a variation of the palm down. Instead of having both arms extended the same length, I keep my right arm almost at 90 degrees, therefore putting me into the roll more easily. Don't get me wrong tho, I use both my palms before rolling because if you roll onto forearm without palms, forearm can get broken. badly.
@Rami1997 And it doesn't hurt at all? I even have some muscle on my back, and when I do my roll wrong (off of a 5 in a half foot wall) onto grass it still hurts quite a bit. What about dive rolls, can you do those with-out muscle?
@Rami1997 I'll just have to grow some balls and try it on cement eh? I don't know why I'm telling you this, but I JUST DID MY FIRST FEW PERFECT FRONT FLIPS!!! I'm so happy. After 2 weeks of failing I finally got them down.
ha ha i already learned this roll before i even started parkour that should tell you how easy this roll is and for me its a lot less stress on your legs practice be safe and have fun
@keithtuber it may not be advanced but it is detailed and requires mastery of the basic roll and knowledge of the terms and body which a beginner may still need to attain so therefore it is for more advanced practitioners
great video. but... is there a tutorial somewhere for those of us whose problem is bones? i tend to snag sometimes the shoulder blade, or especially the pelvic bone in the back. any suggestions/ starting points?
@trewald if your hitting your lower back\pelvic bone your to angled try a differnt angle roll on shoulder then end on your lower spinal region not hip/pelvic regions
cool ill try this out u should go more into the two different techniques though i got the roll decent but still have issues with concrete and my hipbone sometimes lol
This is a perfect example of a tutorial; gives all the needed information in easy-to-understand terms with a bit of humour to keep it interesting (to non-traceurs).
Also, you shouldn't be landing where your clavicles at, you should be landing on the back of your shoulder away from all those bones that really hurt when you hit them.
roll diagolanly from one sholder to the opposite hip, thus minimising the contact with the neck and spine. this will still take the impact out of the roll but in a way that will reduces the chance of any potentiol damage and the severity of it. happy running :)
there are many unique paths to our final destination.
One little discrepancy that I noticed between Levi's technique and that of David Belle: Belle places his right hand much closer to his left, and his right forearm almost touches the ground as he is entering the roll.
