  • Amm I do my roll as its explained here but it still hurts either my shoulder or the bone behind my shoulder. Is this normal or am i doing somethin wrong ?

  • @xPark0ur a little below your shoulder there is a soft muscle part that you should land on instead of actually using your shoulder to hit the ground, its more of a transition, so use that soft part thats a little behind your shoulder. i couldnt roll on hard surfaces before, but i heard that i should do that and i tried it out, and it worked. lol. and make sure to roll diagonally!! otherwise you will hurt your spine. hope i helped.

  • 1:41 serious drops!! LOL

  • what shoes may i use for parkour?! :O

  • @xato909 nike freerun 2

  • Thanks a ton Levi!

  • @keithtuber very simple? speak for urself, theres a group of people like me called parkour retards, it means it takes us probably years just to learn something a parkourist will learn in a couple of monthes. (according to what some people say though)

  • I'll probably actually pay attention to what he's saying later. At the moment, I find it useful to see what he's doing exactly, to replicate it in practice, before adding your own style to it. Parkour is all about having your own unique style, based on what your strong at, and what you are covering.

  • in response to girisepic99 watch urban currents advanced roll tutorial for problems with the spine hurting, the tutorial also includes shoulder hip, knee, and ankle problems as well as different variations of the roll

  • Thumbs up if you think the guy at 1:42 totally failed...

  • who was that gymnast!? double front and double back?

  • when I roll on hard ground my back/spine hurts a lot, am I doing something wrong?

  • @girisepic99

When you roll, make sure that first contact is your shoulder. "Curve" your shoulder by tucking in your arm while rolling. I hope this helps!

  • @girisepic99 hi there, I'm just started to practice but already found out such thing as if you doing everything right, then you shouldn't get hurt. So, yes, you're doing something wrong.

  • @girisepic99 you should'nt roll over your spine, you should roll on your shoulder :)

    hope i halpd

  • great vid thank's man. The way you explain the mechanics of the roll is really helpful not only for me but also for others

  • Probably one of the best tutorials out there.

  • Thank you so much!! I finally found out what I keep doing wrong. Thank you so much!!

  • if i have a good roll on one side but the other side hurts should i have to learn it?

  • @keithtuber the recoil is kinda tricky at first

  • Why does it hurt i'm doing it right but it hurts

  • @KASSISHOT When youre doing it on hard ground.. its normal that it hurts a bit... But if it's more than a bit you are doing it wrong.

  • @KASSISHOT If it hurts youre generally doing it wrong.... either that or your legs arent ready for drops. How high up are you jumping from?

  • i like the music, may i know what is the name?

  • @Nebunedzar i think its called The Binary Universe.

  • @DragonMan933 thanks DragonMan933 for telling me. :)

  • GRRRR Help please when i roll i always roll from my right shoulder to my right hip i need to roll to my left hip help PPPLEEEEEEEAAAAASEEEE

  • @rockstargamesyay Had that prob too. Crouch to a deep squat (not very very) and try to get in it a lot sideways. By the time you start rolling think to hit the middle and right of back. It's a place where it has only muscles, you'll learn it by practise. When that place touches the ground (have your hands ahead and left) lean a bit forward and then again down. Make it sideways to understand the motion and move. After repetition you'll adjust it. Good luck and patience. Feel your body. :)

  • Really great vid, helped a lot :D

  • You can learn this at Kung Fu :)

  • @MW2Zarimo Yeah, this type of rolling originated from martial arts :P It's the ancient korean way of rolling :)

  • Okay so, recoil vs. landing-then-rolling. Does that mean landing then rolling is wrong or just less effective? Or something

  • @bookwurm4life Landing whilst rolling is more effective.

  • 1:31 POWERTHIRST

  • Umm, my rolls are too straight-forward. Any advice?

  • I started it on grass and on playgrounds where there are those rubber 1 foot thick mats. THey help to learn without the fear of hurting yourself too badly. And, I use a variation of the palm down. Instead of having both arms extended the same length, I keep my right arm almost at 90 degrees, therefore putting me into the roll more easily. Don't get me wrong tho, I use both my palms before rolling because if you roll onto forearm without palms, forearm can get broken. badly.

  • Step 4 at 2:06, must I recoil myself forwards?

But what if I don't have enough space, what should I do?

  • @Rami1997

    not jump then

  • @xomanowar42

    LOL!

  • wow this was helpful

  • You need a lot of back muscle to do this on cement eh?

  • @iDeaTHeoRyi

    No, not really.

I am really skinny and I don't have muscles, but I can still hang it.

  • @Rami1997 And it doesn't hurt at all? I even have some muscle on my back, and when I do my roll wrong (off of a 5 in a half foot wall) onto grass it still hurts quite a bit. What about dive rolls, can you do those with-out muscle?

  • @iDeaTHeoRyi

Hmmm I don't do Dive Rolls, but I think you can do it without muscles.

  • @Rami1997 I'll just have to grow some balls and try it on cement eh? I don't know why I'm telling you this, but I JUST DID MY FIRST FEW PERFECT FRONT FLIPS!!! I'm so happy. After 2 weeks of failing I finally got them down.

  • @iDeaTHeoRyi

Good job man hope you good!

  • ha ha i already learned this roll before i even started parkour that should tell you how easy this roll is and for me its a lot less stress on your legs practice be safe and have fun

  • wow i doing parkour about 7 months but this vid give me some useful informations thanks!!!

  • great

  • @Captain338

here is video i have translated into chinese, i have done most of APK video into chinese , thanks Jeremy Osborn and steven LOW so much.

  • Thank you very much, this is the best roll tutorial I could find.

  • You saved a lot of broken bones placing this vid.

  • i wish i could do parkour :( its so cooooool!

  • @idaismyname why can't you do parkour? everyone can....

  • its much more easy when you do it in mirror's edge !

  • great tips thnx

  • @keithtuber it may not be advanced but it is detailed and requires mastery of the basic roll and knowledge of the terms and body which a beginner may still need to attain so therefore it is for more advanced practitioners

  • it may not be advanced its just detailed and beginners would probably not understand it so therefore it has been made for more advanced practitioners

  • great video. but... is there a tutorial somewhere for those of us whose problem is bones? i tend to snag sometimes the shoulder blade, or especially the pelvic bone in the back. any suggestions/ starting points?

  • @trewald tuck hard

  • @trewald if your hitting your lower back\pelvic bone your to angled try a differnt angle roll on shoulder then end on your lower spinal region not hip/pelvic regions

  • ya great video but this stuff is techniquely way way over my head. i hope this stays online though

  • dude levi weren't you in American Ninja Warrior or something??

  • That for sure was a great complementation for the "Advanced Parkour Roll Tutorial". Thank you!

  • LoL, Sebastian Foucan was always randomly showing up

  • good video

    i learned must

  • The human body is surprisingly durable.

  • duuuude i will LOVE YOU if you clear the sound glitch :X

  • thanks

  • cool ill try this out u should go more into the two different techniques though i got the roll decent but still have issues with concrete and my hipbone sometimes lol

  • thank you this helped a lot!!!

  • very helpful vid. funny too

  • This is very god tutorial, but the music,... man, I don't dislike it, but it weakens my concentration a lot.

  • i will be showing this to my friends

  • This is a perfect example of a tutorial; gives all the needed information in easy-to-understand terms with a bit of humour to keep it interesting (to non-traceurs).

Apart from the occasional audio glitch, good vid.

  • helps alought for my legs there not fully grown yet cause im 11

  • @lilgez123 Im 11 too.Anyways this helped so much.

  • pretty helpful thank you

  • lol dude 4:06 looks awesome

  • That's just the basic roll......

  • just one question why i broke my clavicle after a roll? i think was my arm strength but i want your opinion

before believed that my roll was good because i felt no pain after rolling but the broken bone changed my opinion XD

  • it happened the same thing to a friend of mine...

    drink more milk :P

    nah.. jk

maybe you did as in 1:33...?

insted of changing the direction of the impact forward? =/ idk really... =/

  • how high did you jump from?

Also, you shouldn't be landing where your clavicles at, you should be landing on the back of your shoulder away from all those bones that really hurt when you hit them.

  • jaja that is the funny part it was just like 1.5m but it it was a strong jump and large

  • powerthirst eneergy!! lol

  • Thanks a lot, this was really a great tutorial.

  • What's the song playing in the background?

  • Why is there a subliminal at 1:30

  • lofl, i knew I saw that :P

  • kool

  • Wow, americanparkour has some of the best tutorials :)

  • sweet tutorial. thanks

  • OW. 1:32

  • Wow thanks I almost got the roll perfect before, but this made my roll perfect! 5*

  • This was kickass!! helps so much thx:D

  • Really good man!

Im gonna go practise this, thanks!

  • wow look at 2.10

  • I use this type of roll. there is nothing else really to it. If you have any questions then just teach ur self instead of asking others.

  • I have a question though. Typically when I roll, I roll forward. Is it better to roll forward or a little sideways?

  • roll diagolanly from one sholder to the opposite hip, thus minimising the contact with the neck and spine. this will still take the impact out of the roll but in a way that will reduces the chance of any potentiol damage and the severity of it. happy running :)

there are many unique paths to our final destination.

  • Never knew that. Thanks

  • comment^

  • As long as you don't roll along the spine you should be fine.

  • sideways. does your spine hurt at all when you roll?

  • No it really dosn't. Worst it has done, is left a huge bruise on my shoulder (from practicing rolling on a hardwood floor in our school's GYM lol)

  • thanks. ive been training parkour for 4 years now.. and this helped me alot. appriciate it! thx

  • One little discrepancy that I noticed between Levi's technique and that of David Belle: Belle places his right hand much closer to his left, and his right forearm almost touches the ground as he is entering the roll.

  • nice guide thx im only 14 but im really persistant i thot i had the basics down so i tried do the more advanced roll and i broke by collar bone but now i know what i did wrong thx

  • nice

  • lol, live and learn

  • great tutorial! thanks alot!

    subscribed! 5str!

  • hey im a begginer and im tryin to master my roll but everytime i try to roll on a hard surface like cement or pavement it hurts the back of my shoulder alot. i can do it on grass without any pain though. can someone help me out?

  • is it just me, or does the audio seem a bit off?

  • thanks alot better than some tutorials

  • wow amazing! i thought i had my rolls donw but apparently not!!

  • Great tutorial, Thank you. But I still have problems with my exit. I have extremly bony hips so I have to come out of my roll at more than 90 degrees or else it really hurts, on grass this is no problem. But on conrete, no matter how good my rolls are they still hurt. How can I fix this?

  • @BoiseFreerunner im 14 and im 52kg. i have thin bones too.... and i have no problem with the roll, i had a problem, it was a bone near the butt, but i fixed the problem, just practice

  • good good tutorial tnx for explaining th reverse blocking techique. about alkaido roll, do you think is a good rolll technique, because i feel more safe doing it than this roll....please reply soon. greetings from Speedy, Romania!

  • best roll video i have seen on youtube

  • mm parecido al de judo el rodillo

  • when i do a roll on hard surfaces i hurt my shoulder

    plz help

  • it does wen u 1st start hm may be because your doin soem wrong watch a beginner pk roll guide hope this helps =)

  • i hurt my shoulder to ,. its normaly in the beginning

  • same here, but i've found out if you increase forward momentum then you distribute the force more, meaning you don't hurt yourself that much. I sometimes hurt my right hip, which is weird as I roll on my right shoulder.

Oh and also put your hands down to decrease the impact on your shoulder

  • if you are hitting your hip then it means you need to tuck yourself more into a ball shape

  • thank you! :D

  • no problem

  • you cant expect not to hurt your self at all when landing and rolling on a solid surface lol.......however the roll reduced the pain and damage that would otehrwise occur

  • it won't hurt if you do it correctly, but that takes more time to practice

  • hmm i think thats mainly because you get used to it...... i did mean to start with though =]

    happy trainings =]

  • oh it will hurt when you start but with practice your body will get used to it

  • which is just as i said hehe......anyhow, doesent anyone find that the beggining is kinda lickin foucans rear a bit...all the references to him haha etc etc...the pics.....

  • good video

  • Verry weird...

  • Must I drink Powerthirst to be in parkour?

  • hell no!!

  • Drink water :)

  • an awesome tutorial mate

  • so when u land you try to leap forward more and then do a roll?

  • no, try and leap backwards, thats what he meant

  • im talking about when you land and leap foward not just landing straight down and roll. smart ass.

  • yer, you leap forward and when you hit the ground you try and roll backwards. Its that change in direction that removes your momentium

  • I've always wondered what was my problem until watching this tutorial I already know most of my problems and mistakes. It's ironic how this video was added on my birthday lol :)

  • Thanks this taught me what i was doing wrong =] and itl defently help me.

    your a gun :)

  • whether or not i can do this, u guys made a great vid

  • the best parkour roll vid ever, and that youre catering for the more advanced traceurs is excellent. kudos.5/5.

  • dude!!! like REALLY!!1 OW! like i can only go roles on grass but CEMENT! lol? pain? i havent tryed but OW???

  • it is painless if you do it right

check out my free running vids at

    ilikefloridaandstuff

  • That´s a good tuto, but you should always check the way your feet touch the ground after the roll, because in higher falls you can injure your joints if you fall on the side of your feet and hit it too hard on the ground.

It happened to me once and wasn´t very nice to almost break my ankle.

  • Thanks! this was very helpful/useful!! very thorough!

  • This is the most helpfull roll tutorial i have ever seen, thanks Levi.

  • your da best man. this really helped.
