  • Really nice thanks

  • Excellent. Great technique. Thanks for posting. BTW is that Locust Valley, Long Island?

  • go you! :D

  • wow that was great cool.

  • Bravo! Sometimes we the europeans, like to throw the glove to our american friends, so I will say that this kind of music is actually irish, it comes from Ireland. :-) Modern american's biggest mistake is that they had been cut from the traditions and let Madonna fullfill their lives. :-) So, keep the traditions and culture as much as you can. :-)

  • Great job but the sound quality just wasn't the best. But it was good enough to bw able to hear the music.

  • That was great, really lovely playing. Could I ask, what book is it you learnt the tune from?

  • Love it!

  • Hi Larry-

Miss your lessons at the evening school but still practicing and getting better. This is super.

    Bob H

  • Thanks, Bob. I have thought about some variations for that course that would get it going again. Keep on playing. Larry

  • what kind of head is that

  • I am using a skin head on that banjo. I tried a mylar head, but it was a little too sharp for my taste. I like the plunkier sound of a skin (vellum) head. Changes in humidity require me to make tension adjustments periodically, but it's worth it. Larry

  • Woah! This really is spectacularly good!

  • Thanks, Bernard. I will try to post more banjo tunes....something I have to remind myself now and then. Larry

  • Excellent work! For me, as a beginner at clawhammer (1 month), you provide great inspiration. Some day . . .

  • Billy,

I remember thinking the same thing when I first heard clawhammer banjo in 2000. I decided that I had to learn that. You too will get there.....just keep pushing. Thanks, Larry

  • amazing congrats!

  • Thanks, Lancelot. Glad that you enjoyed. Larry

  • Nice!! n. I need to learn this one.You play it very well

  • Great stuff! I'm curious the heritage of this particular version. Sounds a lot like the one John Hartford did on one of his last albums.

  • Tuhker,

I got that tune from one of my banjo books...but there are several variations of that tune that I have heard. Also I have seen it called Boatsman and Boatman. Variations arise from independent evolutions over the years in different regions. Thanks, Larry

  • Like you Larry I have heard many versions of this tune & yours is up there with the best.

  • badass

  • Im with John great push on this one .. Glad to met you .. Guy

  • Good to hear some new songs from you Larry, sounded great!..

  • Thanks Larry, that was amazing - your sense of rhythm is awesome as ever!

  • This is a great version of the tune. You sound really great. I like the variant segment.
