As always, the under-appreciated and under-utilized Peri Gilpin shines as Roz. She never gets the recognition she deserves, compared to the other cast members (who, of course, are also sublime).

You may already know this, but originally they cast Lisa Kudrow as Roz (Phoebe from "Friends") but the way she was playing Roz was too timid, or something like that. The producers felt Frasier could walk all over her character and that's not what they wanted, so they re-cast Peri.

And one of the things that make the cast so great is that they're all capable of standing up to Frasier and deflating his overblown, overbearing, flamboyant, super-powerful personality. Niles — could match wits and skills with him till the end of time. Martin — could keep him in line no matter what. Daphne — could shame him into silence effortlessly. Roz — could puncture his smugness every time they spoke. Frasier could not have stood being around a doormat.
