  • Megstar12345, thanks for the comment. And, have fun with your friends!!

  • @AisForAutism

    I will do, thank you!

  • I have friends who are autistic, so this is really handy to know that they aren't doing anything on purpose, they just can't help it.

  • i think this is a great video i reconmend to everybody

  • I think people really need to learn more about autism, I have an Autistic sister and find it extremely annoying that people think she's just stupid.

Autistic people are really smart if you pay attention.

Thank you for writing this book

  • for 4-H I want to write a book that can be interactive for children with autism. I want to use it to make reading fun and to help others understand autism...Any suggestions?

  • Hi sorry for delay. I was having technical problems with YouTube. For many of those on the autism spectrum, sensory issues (sound, touch, taste, etc) can be experienced hyper/hypo (too much or too little) so perhaps having your book have some touch feel things in it would be helpful. Like soft fabric, scratchy sand paper, slippery rubber, feathers or whatever to add a sensory aspect to the book. Also, kids on the spectrum sometimes do better after having activity so perhaps adding activities...

  • (continued)...adding activities to every few pages might help the child feel more relaxed or get rid of some of the "heeby jeebies". Good luck on your 4-H project. Please let me know if I can be of further help. You can send me a direct message.

  • Great source of information.

  • Well, thank you.

  • Looks like a great book, Joanna; I know that people will find it extremely helpful and informative... And I'm looking forward to see you do a video clip about your second book, which seems like another great book.

Good luck and thanks for the comment on the clip I did about my book.

  • Joanna, Thank you for this Video, about Chelsie. I have Asperger Syndrome, mild autism. I am also a folk musician/singer/songwriter and activist for affordable healthcare (in USA); now branching to autism awareness too.

Besides afflicted by an ASD I see a vivid example of failure of our healthcare (in USA). Often insurance companies won't cover therapies needed by autistic child.

AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE IS A RIGHT! Autistic & neurotyp.

The Autistic Child has a right to needed therapies.

  • I'm 14, I have asperger's syndrome, and life has been very hard for me. I like this video, the book looks good. I'm not going to say anymore because I want to go to your site. It looks good, thanks. :)

  • Hi Jaydy! Thank you so much for your response to my video. I am sorry that your life has been hard. The teen years can be super hard especially if you are also juggling other challenges. My hope for you is that you see your strengths, cheer your own successes and that you overcome any challenges you face! Take care and thanks for posting!! Joanna K-V

  • okay I gotta say our names are super close! My name is Johanna ;)

  • What a great idea for a book. We've been looking for some resources to help with our 9 year old son who has Asperger's Syndrome. I really think this book would be great for his class in school.

  • Thank you so much! It was created specifically for that purpose! Later this summer I have a new book coming out that has a boy character. He might enjoy reading this. IN HIS SHOES - A Short Journey Through Autism follows a 13-year-old boy as he transitions to middle school. If you have a second go to my website AisForAutism NET and you can see a preview of it. Plus I just found out my publisher is offering free shipping during April for Autism Awareness Month AUTISM ASPERGER PUBLISHING COMPANY

  • I really wish I could buy this book, it looks really interesting. I like how you use The rainbow in correlation with "Spectrum" and I remember doing alot of things that the main character doese. I don't really consider Autism, even at it's "Lowest" Functioning level. That's because I am literally minded, and take "Dis" to mean "without" we're all "without" Some ability, granted. This is well constructed, and I like the pictures, especially.

  • Thank you for your comment. We are all unique and all have our own gifts, unique personalities and talents. All we have to do is look closely within each other. Again, thanks for your comment. You can see more detail about the book, the testimonials, the dedication and a bit about why I wrote it on my website AisForAutism but I can't list the exact site due to YouTube rules. It's listed on the video though. Thanks again for your comment :)

  • "We are all unique and all have our own gifts, unique personalities and talents"

I think people are starting to figure that out, which is also leading to problems in the main-streamed school system -- just look at the words "MAIN STREAM" I'll discuss this theory in full later, it was once the subject of an Essay, and one of the main points I use to educate people during consultation.

  • This is such a great idea! What a great book! :)

  • Thank you so much for your feedback!

  • I really like this idea. The fact that its coming from a point of view of someone with autism makes it even more special and real for those reading it! Good job.

  • Thank you!!! I sincerely appreciate the comment!

  • I really like your 5 senses illustrations. I also liked the explanations of how non-autistics have some of the same behaviors/responses, but not so exaggerated. Good work!

  • Thanks :)

  • Is this a book for children? Or one for adults to read to children?

  • This book was created to be a children's book (age 7-12)to introduce autism and it's challenges to typical peers. At the end of each chapter is an area called Talk Time which can be used to promote further discussion on how we also may experience some of the same challenges, but to a lesser degree. I have shared this book w/younger audiences and sr. citizen groups. All ages have enjoyed the friendly character and the lessons learned.Coming soon IN HIS SHOES which is targeted at middle school.THX

  • great job. :)

  • I really enjoyed this video and would definitely pass it on to friends. This video &/or book would be a great help for kids to help them understand why kids with Autism act the way they do.

  • I really enjoyed this video, I will forward this on to many of my friends with children. This will help explain why my children act the way they do!

  • good video
