the reason it takes longer to mine anything underwater is because Notch took into accont the fact that whenever you/object move , you have the force that is moving you and a resisting force is pushing against the object (air acts as this force we just don't feel it) it's why we can't throw a ball forever (unlike in space because it has no resisting force). In water however the the risistacne is much greater causing a drop in energy output efiency (make hits slower and weaker).

The reason it takes so long to mine underwater is because in real life if you tried punching an underwater tree your fist has to push through the water slowing it down and notch added this to minecraft to make it a little more realistic I guess

There should be tools for obsidian. But make them difficult to make since obsidian is easy to get.

@shadowdragon1396 you still need diamond to mine it so it isn't to easy but not to hard either but obsidian tools would be good.they mine obsidian as fast as a diamond pick on diamond ore.but less durable.i would love to see those.obsidian doesn't really have any use at all right now apart from making bomb shelters and decoration.

Notch should expand the Nether and make Nether trees that only grow on slow sand and you should be able to make armour and equipment out of Nether rock. Also he should add materials like Netherite, Netheranium and Nethercoal(Used for Nether Torches) netherite would be the equal to iron but would be able to create small explosions that would not hurt you, netheranium would be equal to Diamond but the sword would be able to set mobs on fire and trees would be equal to normal wood
