Diablo 2's Tristram music was just an arrangement of Matt Ulemen's original Tristram instrumental. And even then, all they did was tack a few minutes onto the end. So... there's not a whole lot wrong with saying "The Diablo 2 version" versus "The Diablo 1 version."

lacking the smooth feeling, the string sounds forced and sudden. the chills and scary atmos of diablo should be like a ghost haunting at the back of your mind, getting more so slowly but firmly. not this sudden popping scare-box style.

This is undergraduate-level composition. Uelman's score is absolutely timeless, and stands on its own as a wonderful piece of art. This is a meager and pandering homage. Without the genius of the original, this piece would make no sense at all, and even as stands, it's a waste of 2:11.

And Diablo 2 was the beginning of my MMORPG experience. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this theme, It's new, original and good. I don't want a copy of Diablo 1, I want a new game but with the same basic principles

Just aweful, the original was lengthly, dynamic, yet subtle. It hinted at the darker tone of the game while still only eliciting new and unknown sensations of being in the first act.

Now though it's short, uninspired, and loaded with grimdark synth samples.

Nice, but it has a more similar feel to a spaghetti western than to the old diablo 2 theme, which i prefer.

The composer probably gave a lot of his personal touch. We'll see later if it blends fine with the atmosphereof the game.

Personally, I think it's all about whether the music suits the game or not, and of what I've seen, so far, the Diablo 2 music would be far too 'funky' for Diablo 3. I love the music for Last Ninja and Last Ninja 2 on the C-64, but if you swapped them around, the soundtracks would sound horribly out of place..

Matt Uelmen is genius. We can't expect the music in D3 to be as awesome as it was in D1 or D2. But hey, it doesn't sound bad at all and I love that dark vibe they have given to it.

I find it great. Reminds of the original one but with a more dark and demonic theme. The sounds are nice, rather chilling, I think. It's deep and catching to my opinion. I really like it. The instruments are great.
