Land Rovers are aweful 4WDs, that why its been named the most unreliable 4WD.
do you actually think anything in this video is impressing? because its not all it shows is how RRs cant articulate for anything, my Land Cruiser would have kept all 4 wheels on the ground
wtf are you talking about they have great articulatition,it has a different type of suspension that only articulates when it need to,and the tration control makes up for when tires leave the ground.the land cruiser is desiged to work best with 4 weels on the ground, while land rover designs there suv to able to still to work better with 2 or 3 tires on the ground
then why does the Land Cruiser have front rear and center diff locks and the rover only have an optional rear? and as far as articulation, I think this video pretty much somes it up, haha
Your kidding right? Because you are quite opposite, my friend.
Last I looked, which was twenty minutes ago, my STOCK lr has front rear AND center diff locks. Knob. The articulation on these vehicles is amazing, as is the feat of being able to ride on 45* hills w/out tipping.
the us version of the land cruiser don't have front or rear lockers, just limited slip and tration control....and how did you manage to find a land rover with front lockers, and rear locker, even a rear one is optsional on most of them???
I've never heard of landcruisers having front lockers, but that doesn't matter. I've never said the Rovers have front lockers, because they dont. Their locking diff's are MORE than able if you research their videos.
Cruisers have lockers all around, just check out toyotas foreign market sites, like the Aussie one I told you about.
also are you confused mate locking diffs ARE lockers which the rover does NOT have, the rover has traction control which is good but its not reliable and will never be as good as lockers, do you honestly deny that?
wow you really are stupid. Shows how much you know about offroading. Locking diff's, and lockers are totally different Chief. Do I really need to go take a picture of my shifter that ENGAGES the front rear and center locking diffs? My Land Rover has no traction control.
are talking about low range where a selectable center lock? I dont know how the rovers are but on Cruisers they are called lockers also referred to as locking differentials, that means that when selected(front or rear) you can lock the axle and the tires will spin with the same amount of torque.
your rover they may be reffering to a center diff lock which gives equal torque to each axle, in that I could see what you would be talking about, the british do things a little different then Japanese
No. The truck is an awd truck. There is 4x4 hi and 4x4 low. You can move the t-case selector to the left and select diffs locked 4x4 hi or 4x4 low. There is a difference between locking diffs and lockers. Lockers are much better (why LR didnt use them, I dont know.. but jeep doesnt either.. and both do considerably well for not having them). The front and rear diffs do lock; when one tire is slipping, it diverts the power to the the tire not slipping. It also has the cent-lock which is amazing.
well maybe LRs label things differently but as I call that the traction control system, now I will admit(as unreliable as it is) that the rovers do good not having lockers with their traction control, BUT I as well as you know that it will never out perform a "locked"Land Cruiser.
and I now understand what you are trying to say, basically you are saying that your locking your diffs with the TC system, like the Land Cruiser locks its diffs with full lockers??
I mean.. hell.. a '95 Ford Bronco has a locking dana front axle, why the hell wouldn't a land rover?? But like you and I have already said, they do VERY well w/out lockers stock. But an LR+lockers= look out!! But my LR doesnt have tc.. it has a shifter to put the t-case and 3 difs into locked mode. Newer LR's have an actual traction control system that uses abs and engine control thats actually VERY effective, and has hill decent/climb control. But I agree that Lockers are THE best option PERIOD
In my mind if the rover had lockers it would be more equal to the LandCruiser and to me it would then come down to reliability and the effectiveness of the vehicle, and it depends on what your doing, I would choose the Cruiser every time but im slightly biased...but I will say while I like the TC in the LRs, its hill decent/climb and terrian responce is stupid and quite pointless but then again I feel the same about the 200 series Cruiser hill decent/climb as well.
more electrical shit to fail is right! Thats why the disco one and p38 Rangie are the best. No electrical bullshit to worry about. Without a doubt, lockers are THE best means of unfucking yourself. But you have to hand it to LR, for not having lockers they are very capable.
in the states a rear locker is a $500 option on the lr3s and the range rover hse(there standerd on the supercharged version) but i think land rover thought of them as more of a backup plan!!
Ya know.. I never got the point of a rear locker. I mean, ya they help.. but a front locker is a MUST. And a Land Rover with front AND real lockers?? Watch out!! haha
i rear locker makes sure that 3 weels are aways spining, which is all you really need, plus a front locker makes it harder to turn which is why land rover doesen't offer them!
Vehicles come down to personal preference, and its fun to play the brand game, but this is the first time I've EVER heard anyone say a front locker is more important than a rear locker. most 4x4's are designed to have more weight on the back when fully loaded, when climbing, most of the weight is on the back, and some people intentionally avoid front lockers to reduce the chance of a rollover by reducing the chance of the front sliding over when both locked front tires break loose at once.
unloaded, on flat ground, yes, I'm talking loaded with gear & people. As you load a vehicle, they are designed so the rear axle takes up the majority of the load. Also, as soon as you climb a hill, even empty, more weight transfers to the rear axle off of the front axle, and climbing requires alot of traction. Even empty on flat ground, acceleration transfers weight to the rear axle from the front axle. U don't need to trust me, look around off-road forums & articles & read the GVWR sticker
Even during hill climbs a majority of the weight is still on the front. The motor is still over the front wheels, which gives it far more weight than being on an incline give the rear tires.
I understand how acceleration and weight transfers work, but on mud and adverse terrain you are not getting enough traction for that weight transfer to occur. Nor would you be going fast enough
If ur -really- hell bent on proving it to yourself, all you need is a set of wheel scales, a forklift, and, a 4x4. You could even make a chart showing each angle.
&, you can look at GVWR sticker on the door, it shows the separate fully loaded ratings for front and rear axles.
And if all that isn't enough, post on a few off road bulletin boards, helll, hit up pirate off road if they are still up.
Weight transfer is more extreme at slow speeds & 4x4's have extreme gear advantage of low range.
But there cannot be weight transfer if there is harsh or no traction. Without traction, weight transfer cannot occur, so the frontend w/ the most weight, weights down the rear end (hence the drive wheels), which in essence lifts the rear drive wheels out of the mud therefore reducing traction.
You don't have to try so hard to convince yourself, just look it up. Lets use your scenario, in the mud, but if there is no traction, well,. lockers won't help, so lets assume there is a little traction. So you got front lockers, you hit the gas and accelerate, what happens? weight goes to back, unloading the front and reducing the traction your lockers just had. The reverse is true for the back. &Just look at the vid 0:20, the RF and LR tires are about 50/50 on each side, the RR touches.
I'm trying to make this easy on you, but it's not working. I basically "offroad" for a living, if you will. Do you know what LHS and HEMMT's are? I've gotten to where not even those would move in SAND and mud, with just the rear tires engaged w/ the axles unlocked. Trust me. I've literally drifted LHS because the traction is so shitty out back. I've busted donuts in 5tons. Weight transfers dont do shit if you dont have traction.
Lol, now I get it. Well, I gave you the information you needed, and you just choose to ignore it, there is not much else I can do. Donuts? Its people like you that make ROPS a requirement in everything. Beat the crap outta your own stuff, not other peoples. Kudos to ya for signing up, but don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.
I dont beat the crap out of anything. It's called training ;) You have to know how a vehicle will handle in inclement weather, and with all the axles unlocked I feel comfortable saying that in sand an lhs will willhop itself right into the ground.
wow you are such a hater. Seriously.. us people who can AFFORD luxurys such as Land Rovers, absolutely know when people like you are 'hatin.. jealousy's a motherfucker Bro.
afford...HA! lets take a 1997 for example what a 97 rangie worth,5k if that.
my 97 80series is worth around 14k.
and the rover has terrible articulation,as shown above, are you denying that? my cruiser would have kept all 4 wheels on the ground and with the cruiser articulation on top of reliability and lockers.NOTHING can even keep up with the Land Cruiser.
if deny anything ive said then you are in denial because you bought the shittiest vehicle ever made, have fun in the shop you bitch
Well that's odd, I just KBB'd them, both at 100,000 miles, and they were about 800$ difference.
The rover has great stock articulation. Can a landcruiser cruise on 45* angles and not tip? Didn't think so. This whole setup is DESIGNED to life the tires off the ground. Trust me.. your toyota piece of shit does NOT have 4ft of stock articulation. Hoss.
And sorry, but no landcruiser comes stock w/ lockers.
Now quit hating, please. For the love of God, quit trying to compensate. it's a TOYOTA
ive taken my 80 series on the entire LR course and no it didnt flip, and on their ramps I didnt lift any tires and the RRs lifted tires and one didnt have a rear locker and couldnt get through it.
and yes the 205,76,78,79 series cruisers that are brand new have lockers ft rr and c lockers and factory snorkle and PTO winch, deisle, and bull bar, ALL STOCK made by Toyota.
if you dont beleive me than check out Australias toyota site, its easy to navigate, click on commercial 70 series'
yep I used to own a 90 in South Africa, I took it on a 3 day trip and it fliped over in a river crossing, it wouldnt run and it toataled the body. That same trip I now take my HDJ80 on ive never fliped it but even if I did I know how reliable they are and I can take apart that engine and put it back together blindfolded.
as for your comment on cruisers not having lockers...they do, did you check out toyotas site in Aussie? If you did then you would see
there are lockered cruiser in US I bought an 07 US spec in the US from the factory, its almost like when they dont have what you need and they have to order your specific vehicle the way you want it, just say "when yall do order my Cruiser I would like lockers" I have very close relationships with the toyota dealers in my area because I organize off road events and such for them so maybe you just have to know the right people, but dont tell me it cant be done because I did it
also 85305 I just looked up what a 97 Land Cruiser and RR were ACTUALLY selling for and a rover with 100k is for 5,800 on average and a cruiser with average 120k is 11,000, obviously the buyers know what they are getting into.
my neighbor bought an 02 HSE fully loaded for 12k, and he traded it in two days ago for a 79 FJ40 Land Cruiser, he said after I showed him all of my cruisers, he then understood the beauty behind the Land Cruiser, he said he would never turn back!
