I think you are getting him wrong. For sure David is not the origin of Parkour and that's not what he wants to say. He is the one who transformed movement in some kind of "sport", the one who gave it a name. Even in the vid you told me to watch he says, that his father did similar things before.

Gravity was also there for thousands of years, but nvertheless Newton was the one who "invented" it and gave it a name. I think it's the same with Parkour

I think he wanted to express "i'm the ne who started the movement" or something like this, which is correct although he was doing it together with his friends.

Tha's correct originally the word was "Parcours" refer a tipe of training on the disipline "Methode Naturelle" and involves the idea of overcome obstacles in the most efficient way.
