His comment about a change happening in music every five years or so was brilliant...first The Beatles era, then the T.Rex era...and then...he didn't know then, of course, but in retrospect it turned out to be punk.
Marc was not talking about Born to Boogie, which came later. He was discussing a movie he was supposed to make with David Niven in which he would play a crazed serial killer. Unfortunately, the movie never got made. Hope this helps, and keep a little Marc in your heart!
anyway, yes, he did made a movie (with ring starr! Oo) called "born to boogie"... it was recently re-issued in dvd, look for it on google... hope I helped ya! <3
God Bolan talked alot of bollocks from time to time. Genius but he believed his own publicity from 74-76 and it almost destroyed him....He shit on so many people when he got big, his music was and still is as fresh today though.
thought i'd seen everything there was to see about marc bolan but this was new to me. thanks for posting it. the tree he crashed into in putney, london is still covered with messages and tributes, mostly from people who weren't even born when he died, but still touched by his musical legacy.
Had 2 reply no ur comment is old! After recently goin the tree it was covered in messages from all over the world...munich, zimbabwe, croatia even austrailia! 32 years on n still in every1s heart, im hoping the tree can stay full of fanmail 4eva and will not become jst another tree with a bolan board n sum plaques! xxxx
no not at all! its just im sure the guilt of doing that to the man she loved was bad enough without people having a go and making fun. long live marcx
I know your comment is a year old, but it's so dumb, had to reply.
Grace??
His woman was called Gloria, Grace was another black female " singer ", who had a penchant for hitting interviewers with her handbag..ask Russell Harty.
The music(if it can be called that) of today is nothing more than a bunch of gutless fluff done by talentless "beautiful people". Need proof? Just look at people like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. Marc had it all...beauty, style, talent and he was very articulate. You just don't see that anymore. Doodahbagel's comment below was right on the mark. No wonder MTV went to hell in a handbasket.
Marc was right, basically. T.Rex did replace the Beatles, certainly in England, where they were selling an average of 100,000 records at day at their peak (beating the Beatles). Around five year later, the punk rock revolution started... heavy backed by Mr. Bolan, of course!
His look and wearing make-up was mostly his wife's idea, and his personal assistant (a woman) was the first to put glitter on his face...he was just camp and up for anything...he had a great sense of style.
I started with Electric Warrior,Slider,Tanx, then all of his 60's material. I recommend it all, even Zinc Alloy. Zip Gun is his weakest album, but everything else is addictive. The Slider is the most exciting album I have ever listened to. I got into T.Rex about 3 years ago.
I absolutely agree that The Slider is so "exciting," as you put it. There are even albums that I love more, but you can't beat Slider for pure adrenalin rush (even the ballads!).
Marc was only trying to make it easier for girls to swoon for jocks or guys in baggy pants w/ boxers showing--it didn't work...'Tang central 'e wuz...
Ah, but there is Ville Valo who is very charismatic, real, and a true star..as was Marc. There is also Atsushi Sakurai of jrock band Buck-Tick who has that 'it' quality as well. The magic is out there-you just have to search a little to find it :-)
This is a fantastic video. I have been a fan as well for over 35 years and miss his musical talent to, he would have been mega, mega, mega, over the years if he had lived. I can still remember with sadness the news of his tragic death.
keep searching, you will find more stuff and learn about bolan. he truly had a gift. i only really discovered him this july. i have learned a lot since then. there are several good places to look, if you want specifics, just ask.
Thanks very much for posting this, honestly. What I've seen and heard of T. Rex has only been through the internet so far, and this happens to be the first interview longer than 30 sec. that I've seen in my web-surfing. His presence is really... I'm in this kind of awe right now. It's great to see him talk like this.
I liked his talk of revolution. Then, he went out and got killed. Too bad. I think we are in need of cultural and musical-artistic revolution now. Big time. Way overdue.

So, I guess there's not going to be a revolution. The suits won and that's why music sucks today. Marc was one of the last great rockers.
