  • Princess knight was released in English on video in Australia. I used to hire it from the video store.

  • Princess Knight=Snow White. Bambi=Kimba=The Lion King

  • @lunaneko14 Betty Boop=Princess Knight

  • @CartoonParadise99 yea, in her appearance, but the anime itself is closer to snow white

  • first thing that came to my mind.

    DISNEY

  • @adventuretimefionna1

Tezuka was heavily influenced by Disney. He LOVED the stuff.

  • My very first animation.

  • daaaaw how cute :3

  • Is it possible to overdose on nostalgia? Because I think I just did.

  • Was the complete series English dubbed? Or only some? Where can we get them?

  • @KAISERANIME It was dubbed in english, I even met the voice actress for the princess at a convention several months ago. Very nice lady.

  • @thelovebat Was the complete anime (every episode) dubbed in to English? Or only some of the series? Japan just doesn't have good animators like Tezuka anymore. I pray he was saved and went to Heaven after he died. Since he worked with the Vatican to help make that anime series " IN THE BEGINING " . Does anyone know if he ever accepted Jesus?

  • @KAISERANIME I'm fairly certain every episode was dubbed in english however they were never released on DVD or home media from what I know, so the only people that would have it are the copyright holders (whoever that is) or people that taped the episodes that aired in the few regions it did.

  • @KAISERANIME Japan has great animators! Clamp, The ones who do Bleach, Inuyasha, Sailor Moon n the best, Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, and Ponyo) and whether he accepted jesus or not is none of anyones business! if he went 2 hell 4 that than every jew wud go 2 hell 2. The Vatican r a bunch of pedobears anyway. they shud go 2 hell.

  • @lunaneko14 God Bless You for attacking me for the Lord's name sake! Now I will be blessed! Thanks again & I pray you'll find Christ too! If we "love our neighbor as ourselves" we should be concerned about their salvation too! Tezuka was a very nice person who I pray was saved by Jesus! The anime he made IN THE BEGINING has been a real blessing for millions around the world! Just like Christian Anime titles like TORCH LIGHTERS, FLYING HOUSE & SUPER BOOK! Why not check them out & learn more!

  • @KAISERANIME wtf is wrong with u?! all i said that watever tezuka's religion is its no ones business but his own. he probably found out how corrupt catholics r

  • @lunaneko14 If we "love our neighbor as ourselves" we should be concerned about their salvation too! Tezuka was a nice person! I pray he did find Christ when he worked for the Vatican in that "IN THE BEGINING"anime. Another person I've often wondered about was Japan leader Odo Nobunaga since he was very much involved with Christian missionaries as we saw in that "KING OF ZIPANG" TV series. He often welcomed advice from Christian visitors & this was over 100 years ago! I pray he got saved too.

  • @KAISERANIME no. we should leave our neighbors ALONE! seriously, do u really think anyone wants ppl snooping and judging their religion?

  • @lunaneko14 "Whether it be right to listen to you rather than God, judge for yourself!" As for me, I cannot help but love my neighbor as myself! Therefor I pray in Jesus name that you will see the errors of your way of thinking, repent and turn to God! For you too are dearly loved! & are precious in His sight! Even the vilest offender who truly believes & accepts Christ can be saved! Don't throw away your life & eternity! You too can know the love of the Lord! He can save your soul too!

  • the first and the best anime ever!!!!

  • October 4, 2011 we get volume 1 of the manga, thank you vertical.

  • @sonickid101

  • @sonickid101 I'd gotten the manga for Christmas

  • i miss this Anime ..

  • cool.

  • I regret ever throwing out my Tezuka anime+manga collection T^T

  • It curentlly aired in my country Indonesia. But strangely in Indonesian version the opening doesnt have a vocal.

  • @initialdody ,screw that tv local,i was seen until the last episode

  • princess knight looks very simuler to a well known western animation character.

  • My mom is still a fan of this show and can see why. This is really good and so is the musical.

  • reminds me of disney

  • Funny, in this version she says "atashi" (feminine "I") where in others she uses "Boku" (masculine, boyish version of "I") f.i. watch?v=5nvSPhWlNME

  • Beautiful animation.........really enjoyed this cartoon as a child. Love it!!! :D

  • Princesse Saphir.

  • Superbe le japonais en lettres gothiques.

  • hehe looks like a japanese version of a walt disney project ^^

  • looks like snow white..... retro form.....

  • 0:30...that's the only part i like from it. o3o

  • well i searched first anime ever, on the search bar and i got this lolz

  • Woah. One of the first anime series EVER. That's epic o_o

  • so this is the first anime ever o,o? in what year it came out?

  • Read the description again (although there's a misspelling that might make it confusing)... it's the first shōjo (little girl's genre) animation series in japan... not the first anime.

  • 1967

  • No the Black and White Astroboy (Tetsuwan Atom), and Kimba the White Lion came first by the same creator... this was the first girl's anime and manga though...

  • OMG! Talk about the way back machine!

  • wow i can remember watching this when i was little on my grandparents satellite. that was so long ago lol good times =)

  • I think the reason that so few know about it, as well as Lady Oscar/Rose of Versailles, is because they have NEVER been released here in America for them to see, which is really sad, if you ask me, cause we're missing out on some great looking old-time anime series, here, and getting nothing but modern CGI crap instead!

  • I remember a different opening - not in Japanese, and at the end of the music, Choppy would 'sing' with his high pitched voice 'LA LA LA LA LAAAAAA!!' Does anyone remember that?

  • Does anyone know whats the name of the singer and the song?

I would like to find the soundtrack :)

  • This is Yoko Maekawa, a Japanese Jazz musician. She sings Cutie Honey(the 1st one) and Majokko Meguchan also. You will find these songs @ youtube. I love her voice a lot.

  • Oh tahnk you so MUCH. Can't belive it's Maekawa...I love the old Cutie Honey Serial and have the opening songs!

    Thanks a lot♥

  • Its aired on GMA 7 in 1978 alongside with other animes in english dubs(dubbed by Questor which is now Telesuccess Productions)..

Yup its called Princess Sapphire in my country and its great..

  • yes this was probably the one of the first anime i watched too. i remember the story about some flower kingdom and also this ice creature scared of a fire sword

  • I remember watching the english dubbed version of this series on VHS many years ago and it was re-titled as 'Choppy And The Princess'. The intro to the english dubbed version is similar to this version except that there was no singing in the title music and it just had the Choppy And The Princess title and that was it with no other titles or text. I'm not sure if the english dubbed versions was edited or cut or if it was the same versions as the Japanese version.

  • I used to watch this when my family lived in Taiwan, 1975ish (Dad was in the Air Force). It was dubbed in English and had Chinese subtitles.

  • You must of lived on CCK Air Base.

  • Actually it was in Tainan, I think Tainan Air Base. My dad was working at Air Asia.

  • I got this on a very very very old vhs tape when i was about 5, i only found it up the attic this morning, man i had no idea it was an anime back then, i got the episode with the flying horse, strange anime lol.

  • thx so much ! :-))

  • I was so young when this was on TV ^^

  • I loved this cartoon!!!

  • OMFG i used to watch this when i was little (mid 90's) in mexico!! this was one of the first anime i EVER watched!!

  • Osamu Tezuka is truly the father of anime! any anime fan should have at least a Osamu tezuka anime in there collection if they really want to be a true fan.

  • @46w46w Screw all this earthly crap. Tezuka is god.

  • Tezuka was amazing, wasn't he?

Too bad the way he did females isn't in our current manga. They can't be cute like he'd make them, they have to be trampy.

  • I agree. The women he made were the type you'd like to hug. ^.^ Tezuka lived hard. He is my inspiration in my art...

  • He is inspirational. I love drawing his characters.

  • I draw Kimba. I'm pretty good at it too.

  • Bring back that charming little princess and get rid of all the stupid lolita girls in today's anime.:P

  • Let's not forget those bothersome Maho Shojo crap, as well.

  • I don't know if anyone will agree or not, but while Sapphire looked attractive in her Princessly Ball Gown, she looked much cuter & prettier in her Musketeer outfit, complete with that charming saucy, feathered hat.

  • Agreed so much.

  • the instrumental 1 is better...

  • this was a favorite of the Checkers and Pogo generation in Hawaii.....thunderbirds, capt scarlet, and princess knight

  • music isao tomita!!!

  • In France it was called "Princesse Saphir" and I remember watching it when I was a little boy, 35 years ago...

  • It was titled "Prince Sapphire" when it aired in the Philippines...nice memories of that series (quite surprised to find out it was from the creator of AstroBoy & Kimba the White Lion)

  • I haven't seen that opening since 1969! Thanks for the look back!
