Omgoodness, I have been watching these Golden Palace episodes all night because it's about the closest thing I have to golden girls at this moment. They just about removed all the channels that had episodes from youtube, so I've been watching these. And just when I stumble across an episode that features Dorothy's Return, it adds on to my continuing argument that whoever is writing the material must be different from the Golden Girls.

I think this episode really makes it clear that the new show is nothing without Dorothy - and Dorothy's magic works best wenn it rubs up against Sophia's. Blanche and Rose (and all the other characters) are very good, and it's a pleasure to watch young Don Cheadle act.... but Dorothy and Sophia are MAGIC!! The Golden Girls were MAGIC!!

I don't think it's a matter of getting someone's intentions. People make personal decisions for a reason, whether we understand it or not. I think she got tired of doing the show. Kind of like when you landed your first job, you worked there for a while, and then you decided you don't want to do the same thing year after year, and you say, "I'm done. It's time for me to move on." I wouldn't be surprised if Bea felt like that.
