Wow, these old things were rough! I grew up in Class 33 country; the 6-cylinder Sulzers always sounded rather uneven compared to their 8-cylinder cousins
loved the noise of the old sulzers, takes me back to the late 70's and early 80's when i stayed next to the eastfield depot at cowlairs in springburn when all the engines would be sat outside idling and each making their own own unique sound from the clatter of the class 27's to the turbo whistle of the class 20's magical memories indeed even better during the long summer days, the old eastfield depot is long gone now but the memories of those days will live with me to my dieing day.
I love the sound of small Sulzers. Obvious family resemblance to duffs, but somehow without sounding totally dull. As Zontar would say, it sounds like someone's dropped a brick in a cement mixer.
Carlisle Kingmoor at 1:41 to 1:51; still alive and well today thanks to DRS. Shame I was born only a year later after this brilliant clip was taken, but you can't win them all. 5*

Nice one, little Sulzers, little (meduim and big) ALCos and 31s, waste of time building anything else really.

I totally agree! All to do with health and safety i suppose, and the fear of being sued.
