@ltahoe7195 i didn't let her. she was a stray that showed up at my house about to pop with babies. that question has been answered several times in the comments already.
i would have given her privacy if she'd wanted it, but she followed us when we walked away. she wanted us there with her. otherwise she was going to drop her kittens right onto the concrete.
and no, we didn't keep her. 3 cats inside already is enough. she went to a family who needed a kitty.
@Thatsamistery she would never bite my daughter. this cat adored her and didn't want to stay in the birthing box if my daughter walked away. she wanted the attention.
cats like small spaces for giving birth. she was a stray who showed up & we gave her a space where the raccoons who hang out couldn't steal & kill her babies. she liked that small space & never moved the babies out at all because they were safe & protected.
When a cat is giving birth LEAVE HER ALONE unless she's in trouble (ie the kitten has been stuck in the birth canal for over an hour). Cats are designed to give birth ALONE.
Better still, have her speyed. All my cats are neutered or speyed.
@muskndusk we did mostly leave her alone, but when we walked away from the birth box, she'd jump out & follow us, so we hung out with her through the whole thing.
and she was a stray that showed up at our house very pregnant when it was too late to get her spayed. she's fixed now & moved to another home. all my other animals are fixed.
@muskndusk I realize that you commented a long while ago, but in defense of the people who made this video, you should think about how many people there are out there just like you who love to give "helpful advice" in an incredibly patronizing way, and never consider there might be some explanation. All animal lovers use their friends and the internet to get info on animal care, and deserve constructive, rather than rude criticism. On that note, maybe i'm being hypocritical, so peace out.
@happililgoth I don't generally give advise unless asked, but the cat looked distressed. Of course she is, giving birth isn't easy, but the reproductive system of a cat varies from ours. The uterus is two horns along which the kittens lie in their amniotic sacs. Unlike human unborns, they're sausage shaped and don't have the huge head of a human baby. Birth is usually easier for catsand requires little supervision. Some young mothers may need C sections as they may be unable to eject the feotus.
@muskndusk I'm sorry if you misunderstood my criticism of your comment. I frankly am not interested in your expertise on cat births, because people can just look that up on the internet anywhere, and I'm sure these people tried their best. I am only criticizing the way that you worded the "advice," especially since your comment is partially directed at a young girl. Also, the cat must have been totally fine since they put up the video, and they didn't mess with it in any way from what I see.
@happililgoth Please read my original post, the vid poster's reply, and my comment which follows that. Once they'd cleared up what the situation was, I more or less apologised for any offense caused. Personally, I still don't see that my original comment can be interpreted as patronising. A young girl? There's an age limit for uploading vids on youtube.
@muskndusk I don't see any apology for your rudeness. I just see a comment that walks around admitting that you overreacted. There's no need to capitalize your words. I'm just letting you know, for possible future reference, that the way you phrased things seemed rude. Nothing personal. There is a young girl in the video who obviously cares about the cats and would care what people have to say. This is totally off topic, but there is such a thing as lying about your age on an internet site.
@happililgoth Yes there's a little girl being supervised by her mother. My comments were aimed at the mother. The uploader confirmed that the cat is a stray and possibly feral, in either case she would be more comfortable giving birth without humans around. I know this because I've run a feral rescue and understand how defensive/afraid they can feel regarding humans (see some of my earlier vids). Nuff said!
@muskndusk Well, it turns out this case was different and they didn't need your advise, even though I know you had the best intentions. I was only suggesting that you phrase advise in a nicer way next time, not trying to quiz you on your cat knowledge. Also, stay on topic if you're going to argue. That's all.
@muskndusk I use youtube so I can enjoy other people's videos, especially of animals since I've never had any pets of my own because most of my family is allergic. I've even watched some of your videos and I've enjoyed them. I sincerely apologize if I offended you.
i remember seeing my cat giving birth i was excited and super scared at the same time. my cat also meowed very loudly. then after she gave birth some months later my other female cats gave birth then i had a total of 14 cats.. dear lord i was in trouble
Why'd you let her get pregnant in the first place ?
