particularly the 'gat' and Jhalla he plays ( fast tempo) is very skilful and all who praise him give a thought to the hours of rehearsing ( in Urdu it is called Riaz (or Practice) to achieve this degree of fluency in the strumming of the strings and the Movements of varying the notes with his left hand!
I have no doubt that the few who choose to learn and perform Indian classical music either instrumental or vocal end up being MORE knowledgeable in Indian music than most Indians of Indian origin !No one can deny the pull and attraction and the mesmerising qualities of Indian classical music!
even the ennunciation of the bandish 'Baajuband Khul Khul Jaaye' and he plays it very much like Nikil da ( very soft playing,Khayalia style) unlike Ravishankarji which is the dfrupadia style

Beautiful! I am so happy to see Indian music being played and listened to more by Westerners like myself. Eastern music has so much to offer. Thanks for posting.
@Psyche1954 Medicate and meditate. I am one of the first (34th precisely) people in Canada ... in 1998 ... to win an exemption from the law from the Health Minister... to legally medicate with 15 grams Cannabis daily. The music and the herb are very healing.
Thank you very much for clarifying! I thought in my ignorance that it was a simple typo!
I am impressed that you thought out of the box instead of being afraid to ask awkward questions! Good Luck and God Speed both for you and your patients! They are lucky to have you!
Within the taal and raga, you can play a composition, a long melody, with different parts... which then repeats, with variations and so on. It usually starts when the alap finishes, when tabla starts accompaying.

I think you mixed up the credits. The sitar guy looks much more Caucasian than the tabla guy.
Great upload though, thanks !

@ramesh046 @ramesh046 Rupak means a rhythm in 7 beats, divided in 3 + 2 + 2.
Try singing "Tin Tin Na - Dhi Na - Dhi Na"

Tin-Tal, Ektal, Jhaptal and Rhupak are the four main drumming rhythms if I remember correctly :)
Traditional Indian music is such an influence on my own composition, it just has such a relaxing and unique sound.
Excellent video by the way.

It is the song of nature. and the song of destruction (destroying mental frames, making room for free association)
So its the ultimate song to medicate to
