A really innovative and creative way of thinking on the subject of history. (If it was taught in this form in schools maybe our kids way actually look up from their iphones and pay attention.) Burke needs to let some one refilm this in a more modern format so that it will last much longer and can be enjoyed by many future generations. This show, and the ideas behind it, aren't just intelligent and entertaining - they are revolutionary. James Burke is a genius at making you think.

I thank you too for posting these videos. I didn't know they were gone though since I only re-discovered them now. Re-discovered, meaning how the original PBS airings of J.B.'s series actually changed the way I thought about virtually everything. The interconnectedness of Ideas is extremely fascinating. I could go on and on about how I adored this series, was mesmerized by it, had EUREKA moments of my own because of it and got "IT" whatever it was at the time.

Every episode of James Burkes shows were slap full of eureka moments. It always fascinated me how so many of the major turns in history are predicated on other turns of events. BTW,  03:07 - CHEAT! CHEAT! Those were two different stones! LOL!

We'll simply redefine what is meant by "same" so that the two stones are the equivalent in large enough measure of said "sameness" for me to ignore. Much easier than deleting all the videos ;)

Actually that reminds me of the famous Boze-Einstein statistics evidently showing that "all electrons are the same electron" (similarly with other particles).

That is, if you follow the normal rules of counting, then a system can have in a certain number of accessible states. Swap two particles in the system and that counts as another possible state it can be in.

What they showed was that if you count that way you get the wrong T vs. E curve (or almost that. Must re-read!).

thx so much for puttin the vids back up, I was devastated when I came in one day and saw JSfan was gone!I took a look at Sagan's Cosmos to fuel some of my documentary cravings...wonderful talker, almost sounds like he could charm up some cult following, I wonder how accurate/up to date the info he presents is (is it worth learning from in 2009)...a little too specific for my tastes tho...I'll stick with James!
