  • I only know π to 5 decimal places. this is what calculators were invented for :)

Surprised teachers allow/encourage students to waste time like this. A lot of time and effort that could be better spent on other things...like learning soemthing usefull - bah humbug!!!

  • so doesnt this just make a circle a bunch of corners if it takes all those numbers to make up a "circle"? Just sayin

  • all i know is 3.14 but my teacher knows up to 200 decimal pints (my ORCHESTRA teacher!)

  • what i what to know do these kinds of folks who recite decimals of pi make up memory palaces to remember. that would be really useful knowledge, otherwise its just a stupid pet trick to me.

  • @shoobedoorocketship The best ones obviously do. The world record is 60,000+ digits - it's probably possible to learn at least 1000+ by just rote learning, but it's a lot easier and faster to learn if you use mnemonic techniques.

  • fuck the calculator i need one of these people

  • i don't hear a shit XD

  • shes saying it wrong, shes making up shit.

  • I KNEW IT WAS AN ASIAN!!!

  • Oooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmggggggggggghhh ...... :o ........ she has the best memory that is possible ... Ahhhhhh

  • Why is there a kid eating rice??..??

  • she alone could support the entire state of arkansas with her iq level

  • @DOCTOROCTAGONAPUSS that's funny, I though I said it first. I didn't mean to plagiarize. Sorry if it offended you.

  • @PandaceMcFrizzle kk man, theres no hate XD

  • @PandaceMcFrizzle actualy pi never repeats or ends in other words yes you can say 3.14 is the end ;D

  • Well that's useless. Wasted mental effort that could have been applied to something more useful.

  • @chibichibininjachibi to some, its not a waste of mental effort. theres nothing wrong with wanting to push yourself. when i was in 8th grade, i memorized 7500 digits of pi at an average of 200 digits per day. it wasnt hard for me at all and only took a few minutes a day. i did it simply to prove to myself i could. it had intrinsic value to me so it doesnt matter if it can be applied. dont be bitter because you arent as motivated as some.

  • @joeymuffarco69 I think you missed the point. If you want to feel a sense of accomplishment, you can better apply to greater things than memorizing thousands of numbers. Time is precious and if that's how "you" want to spend it that's fine by me; but it's still a waste.

If I had that amount of free time though I could be doing a lot better things for humanity.

  • i always forget the first the whole number of Pi...I ask myself..."2? 3? 4?...And I still don't know. haha

  • The point of doing it was not for knowledge necessarily, it's just a test of how much you can actually remember, that's all. It's for fun, what else could it be for? ^^

  • i can remember 2800 digits of pi

  • I'ved memorise this (:

  • 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510582097494459230781640628620899862803482534211706798214808651328230664709384460955058223172535940812848111745028410270193852110555964462294895493038196442881097566593344612847564823378678316527120190914564856692346034861045432664821339360726024914127372458700660631558817488152092096282925409171536436789259036001133053054882046652138414695194151160943305727036575959195309218611381932611793105118548

  • Jeeze, all these people asking "what can you do with this knowledge". It should be obvious: NOTHING. So what? When somebody posts a video of somebody doing some physical stunt - back flips or whatever, do people post, "But what's the use of that?" No. People just do this kind of thing to see if they can, that's all. Can YOU do something unsual?

  • @clymbonboard Thank you :)

  • @CocoJelly92 Exactly and well said., I'll bet that she never suffers from dementia, its mental exercise. just like singing from memory. pi.ytmnd dot.com

  • @clymbonboard At least watching someone accomplish a ridiculously life threatening stunt is interesting...

  • @clymbonboard Yeah, I can make jokes about an Asian knowing pi. PWNED

  • @clymbonboard There is a use to it. Maybe I wanna figure out the how much Pie there is. Then I would use the math equation and a measuring tape to get it. And Eat that Pie =D

  • I have 3.1 memorized....

  • 3.14..5.....9. I'm out. ;)

  • I understand why someone would do this. Its actually quite easy. whn i try to i memorize 6 numbers in pi a day but i havent really tried too much cause im only at the 19th decimal. I plan to make it to the 100th decimal one day just to say i can.

  • I hope she sees the numbers in her head while she's reciting them. Do you suppose she dreams about them? I would.

  • If I would practice the whole summervacation I would maybe know more then that :)

  • you guys are my heros my fucking no life heros i love you both so much there is no way to describe the feeling that goes through the inner core of my being when i see two quasi people like you giving it your all over the internet because of a shy girl from marina high school im crying right now not just for my own joy but for the greater good you two are sure to bring to life nay the pure bliss that will spring forth from your loins and be gifted to this humble home we call earth gods speed u 2!

  • I can hardly remember anything, and the brain is that awesome O.0, what a great natural computer-too bad mines vista XD

  • probally another chink no life

  • @driversed4u yeah and you'll probly be working for us too :].

  • wait wait wait theres a pi day?!?!?!

  • @thew101freak34 march 14th (to be fair thats for how america writes it like 9/11)

  • i can only make it to like 3.1415926735897932384 i suck

  • She would be owned by Hiroyuki Goto, with his record of 42,195, haha you got a long way to go little girl.

  • i gots 3.14

  • I just want to know, what can you do with that knowledge? What is its applied usage of knowing pi to that degree? I can't think of one.

Yes, It's still amazing. Like always knowing how many eye lashes you have... but I don't see the an applied usage of that knowledge either.

  • True, you can't really do anything with the knowledge, but it's a good way to exercise your brain. Just about everyone that memorizes a lot of digits of pi will tell you they did it by finding patters, which further exercises the brain.

The other thing would be that she probably wrote about this for her college applications. She even made it into the local paper. Pretty unique experience, I'd say.

  • You're right. I can see how this can exercise your memorization skills.

  • @CocoJelly92 Memorizing is just for the sake of personal satisfaction. There is no need for practical uses when you exercise your passion. Besides, do you think when particle physicists do all of their stuff to find practical uses or for the sake of discovery? Eventually, you can use particle physics for stuff like plasma tvs. Practical uses come after the satisfaction of knowing. Sometimes, there are not even practical uses in the end, but who cares? It was just fun.

  • @SSmithOnline you have such an utterly stupid point of view.

The whole point of anything is short and long term stimulation. Pleasure, satisfaction, etc.

Obviously people who enjoy memorizing things will get enjoyment out of the process and satisfaction out of doing it successfully.

What's the point of you watching football or mtv or whatever your tiny brain enjoys? Nothing but some limited short-term enjoyment. This is no worse. (But a lot better)

Grow up you math illiterate idiot.

  • @sharpnova2

My point wasn't that there wasn't stimulation to be had. I didn't say that. I just don't see how knowing pi to that degree can help in anything? What can you do with that information? If you are doing if for enjoyment, then good for you. I just don't see its practical use.

In regards to watching TV? I don't know where you're going with that. Knowing pi to that degree and watching TV has knowing to do with anything.

Regarding to my math illiteracy... That adds nothing to this

  • @SSmithOnline If there was no stimulation then why would people do it? You're just wrong. And although I could easily explain the stimulation of memorizing and reciting pi, your ignorant claim that there is no stimulation to goad the explanation out of someone deserves no explanation whatsoever. The practical use is said explanation.

TV has no practical use other than personal enjoyment and stimulation. So the parallel between that and something like memorizing pi is obvious.

    Math illiterate.

  • @sharpnova2

Once again, I never said there wasn't stimulation to had. I said knowing pi to that degree has no practical use. Period.

You are talking on and on about stimulation. Its quite funny.

  • @SSmithOnline Sad. I thought I was being clear enough for a retard like you but I guess I need to dumb it down a little more.

The practical use of this is that it provides stimulation for the person doing it. The thing that makes it practical is that it doesn't cost anything and gives the same rewards as things that do.

You just don't get it because MTV didn't tell you it was cool.

If someone excels at something they are going to improve their quality of life by pursuing it.

    Math illiterate.

  • @sharpnova2

There is no use for knowing pi to that degree. There a great probability that you will never use that information and it has no applied uses for it. If simulation is your aim, why chose a pi memorization?

If one enjoys memorizing...why not the periodic table of elements [Has practical uses], Economic statistical fundamentals[Has practical uses], Survival techniques [Has practical uses], etc.

If one choses pi memorization just because they like it. Then fair enough.

  • @SSmithOnline It's not just because they like it by itself.

It's because it's an established practice that lots of people do. Therefore there's a community you get to belong to and other people you can share it with that have a common interest.

This is basic human interaction 101.

What you're doing is trying to overobjectively analyze something and in so doing, neglecting to pay any mind to all of the basic and obvious motives that drive human behavior.

  • @sharpnova2

The insults you dish out tells me that you must have been bullied or beaten too many times when you were a kid. You have miss placed angry toward those who've done nothing to you. I feel pity toward you and the people you encounter.

Speaking with you is like speaking with a toddler during a temper tantrum. You resort to childish name calling. Since everything we do simulates the brain, just bringing it up as a practical use for memorization pi is funny.

  • @sharpnova2

Once again, I never said there wasn't simulation to be had. I said knowing pi to that degree has no practical use. Period.

You're going on and on about simulation. Its very funny.

Then you start talking about TV. MORE FUNNY.

    LOL

  • @SSmithOnline looks like you're getting more and more raged as time goes on.

Let me guess. You associate pi memorization with intelligence. You lack intelligence and are therefore bitter towards those who have it.

News flash. It doesn't take intelligence to memorize pi. Just time and/or a good memory.

Also, in response to your comment about memorizing practical things, most people who memorize pi DO have the table of elements memorized, the presidents in order, states/capitols, etc.

  • @SSmithOnline Memorization in general is a rewarding practice because you get to build up a mini-universe or mental-framework of sorts. It exists in your mind and is reproducable by you in perfect detail. I can't explain why this is pleasant any better than you can explain why you find watching MTV or football or worshiping in religion is pleasant. These are simply things that your small brain finds pleasant.

  • @SSmithOnline

Some people enjoy being competitive in a non-traditional way, like seeing what kind of memory feats they can do. It is also probably a good number memory exercise.

  • @SSmithOnline being able to memorize all of this information almost stretches and exercising the mind's bandwith if you will.

  • @SSmithOnline

    knowledge is power

  • The guy to the right is eating PI xD

  • lol

  • SHES ASIAN.

  • back facing towards the audience....hmmm...shy you say?? Idk, sounds rather fishy to me...very fishy...

  • i have about 3.14 memorized

  • @heartabandoned33 I have about memorized where the pi is on my calculator

  • @heartabandoned33 Nice, I'm working on 1 and 5 now.

  • @heartabandoned33 haha me ttoo! xD

  • gamecube?

  • i can remember up to:

    3.1415926535897932...um wats the 4 after that..she rox!

  • thats scary. i can only remember somewhere between 60 and 70 digits!

  • HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAX

    *Throws computer screen at her*

  • lol gary's mod...but nobody else probably noticed...

  • Yeah idiots of Garry's mod xD

  • the squirrel on top of the projector looks like it has a huge black dick

  • @descentofaeons

    lol haahaahha wtf

  • wow what crazy memories all you guys have! AND WHAT A SILLY AND SUPERFICIAL APPLICATION TO RESOURCE IT TO!!!

  • it was just a game to her. She didn't spend her life doing it. She just memorized a few numbers here and there. What's wrong with that.

  • there is a musical pattern to it...can say it in sixtriplets...sort of like 6/8 time...a waltz

  • I can recite pi to the 100th digit while solving a rubiks cube and balancing 15 books on my head!!

  • Holy motherfucker you have to have a serious mental health issue if you find this riveting or at all useful.

  • why do this? why take the time? is there some grand prize that awaits somewhere for a winner? the time would be better spent on playing Battlefield 2 imo. lol! i mean, how often are you at a party or with family and someone says "let's all play the pi number game! losers buy the pizza!".

  • Yes there was a prize, and just to be able to say she could do it. I wouldn't be surprised if she wrote about this for college apps and such. It's an experience.

And similarly, I can say to you, why are you wasting time looking up pi video if you feel that it's a waste of time? Shouldn't you be playing your video games? And that is a waste of time and brain power in my opinion.

  • i know the first 100

  • I learned 40 in 10 mins. =)

  • PI = 3

  • is a period about 5200 digets a teacher calculated and found a the periond he staied 2 weeks at school time calculating.

but i dont thing so maybe there is something wrong :D

  • omg thi is inhumaniti :D

  • I learned 50 in one day (about 2,5 hours time) hope I know as much as her one day

  • Go look it up. Someone proved it was repeatable. Calling me a fucking idiot doesn't make you any better, princess.

  • honestly, are u that fucked in head? u really cant argue, can u?

"someone prove it was repeatable", gee wizz mister really? ever considered giving a fucking name? and the only case to "prove" that was wrong some fag who got the idea becuase he saw his sandwich or something stupid, and even then he "infered" that it would start repeating at the hyper thousandth number...key word "infered".

  • you are fucking stupid if you think that an irrational number can be repeated... Holy shit the word irrational says it all dumbshit... hahahahah lmao

  • HAHAHAH u are the biggest fucking idiot in the world, u're calling me a dumbshit? why dont u learn to fucking read motherfucker? my argument was that it isnt repeatable...but this is what u get when u get urself involved in shit that has nothing to do with u..

  • But, for an irrational, there will never be a recurring pattern in the expansion, as for the rationals.

Another way to look at it is this.

Suppose you trying to calculate the decimal expansion of 1/7 by hand (or by any other method). Once you'd got to the first recurrence of the sequence (142857) you would stop, because it's for certain that the pattern will recur infinitely.

So far, over 200 billion digits of PI have been calculated ... no pattern yet.

  • everything that has a beginning.. has an end...

  • that philosophy doesnt always work with maths

  • I can only remeber it to the 1100th decimal place :(

  • i can remember the first 3 digits.. 4 if u count the decimal :)

    3.14 :)

    woot

  • i cant hear her =/

  • Lol until i read you comment i thot this was a dude wearing a rag rofl... i was like no wai a g memorizing pi?!

  • Okay I'm at 73. Thats as far as I can go.. for now

  • if she can memorize pi, which has no pattern, she can memorize other things with ease...take the hint u hating fags

  • what i dont get, is if....pie is infinite suposedly, wouldnt infinite numbers mean infinite patterns? so pi has unlimited patterns? think about it...post back plz

  • there isnt techonology powerful enough to determine if pi is infitine or if it's just a really motherfucking long number. but theres a chance thats theres a pattern once every million numbers or so on. so far we know a few hundred thousand digits of pi, and there hasnt been a pattern in there, so the chances of all the numbers of pi we know now being repeated are quite slim. sorry if its kinda hard to understand my comment, caant think of the right words lol :D

  • how was pi even designed? like where do people learn the digits from? is it part of some bullshit nerdy formula?

  • Pi repeats it's self.

  • no it doesnt, and neither does the square root of 2, 7, etc...

  • Why are you bringing in square roots? Pi repeats it's self look it up.

  • ...look it up...oh ok, becuase before i said anything i just decided to say that pi doesnt repeat itself becuase all the cool kids were doing it -.-

  • Don't be a sarcastic asshole.

  • dont tell me to look anything up before u've "looked it up" urself
