@31122051, tu si que eres un "criticoreto" del tres al cuarto, te digo lo mismo que a bodiloto: escudarse en la edad o en una supuesta sabiduria de años, no os da derecho para despreciar a grandes personajes de la lirica o de cualquier arte. Estos foros no son para el insulto gratuito. 1o.- Lanza no te pide ninguna critica, y menos despreciarlo de esa manera infame( lleva mas de 50 años muerto).2.- Me da la impresion que tu no entiendes nada del arte lirico, pero nada de nada/ 3.Entender no es repetir como un papagallo las cosas una y otra vez, eso es de borricos.

I think not. The movement doesn't look fast and his Granada, top ending note is a C# and they are on right tempi.

Listen to the version of this posted by khankonchak. you should immediately see/hear the difference. I rather doubt that they would transpose this up. Don't mean to argue with a fellow Lanza admirer, but as far as I know all the opera he sang was sung in the written key. VHS tapes seem to often be played slightly faster when uploaded (something to do with regions?) For instance check out his "celeste aida" from great caruso on youtube. ending note is a B, should be Bb there too.

Steakopera: All of Lanza's three versions of Granada are sung in the key of F Major. The climactic note is therefore a high C, not a C#. The only time Lanza attempted a C# was in his live performance of the Addio Addio from Rigoletto (and also on his film soundtrack version in Because You're Mine).

Hi "steakopera": Just to clarify: Lanza didn't sing the Otello Monologue in a higher key; it's just that this particular clip is taken from a PAL (British) version of the movie & is therefore playing a semitone fast. To hear this recording at the correct speed, simply type in "Mario Lanza as a riveting Otello- Dio, Mi Potevi."

This is the finest version of the Otello Monologue I've ever heard, and the perfect recording to play to anyone who says that Lanza lacked artistry and nuance. The intelligence and musicality of his singing here, coupled with that extraordinary voice, put this rendition among the great operatic recordings of the 20th century.

(By the way, this is running a semitone fast! The American video release runs at the correct speed.)
