Nice Reed!@snowgoosebob my dad came up with the idea of the plane and air cannon!!! so shut ur mouth! my dad works with TVN and Tim Samaris!!!! HAH HAH !
Good for you guys doing direct damage to the dominator to test it from severe impact, perhaps a some sort of density coating inbetween door layers for extra protection? dense foam would likely give nice noise cancelling as well without a lot of extra weight?
hey morons, here's a thought. what happens if that nice 2 by 4 hits the window? doesn't matter if the rhino lining works if the 2 by 4 hits the window instead. might wana test that yourself before nature does it for you
Reed keep up the good work the things that you guys are doing out there are very helpful and it's keeping us safe. I salute you and if I see something in the part of Kansas where I'm at best believe you will know about it if your not here.
@ 4:00 the video shows the Cannon System followed by a test firing of a few probes about 100' or less in the air so the probles can be drawn into a tornado to collect data. Why waste time and money building some fancy Cannon System?
How about this simple idea..Attach each of the data probes on single Helium filled Balloons. Then just release those Helium filled Balloons and watch the probes keep rising into the air and drawn into the tornado!
@snowgoosebob That sounds good and all but the problem with the wind still remains. You would still have to release those ballons at the perfect moment to catch the inflow, if you do not catch the inflow your ballon will be pounded into the ground.
@snowgoosebob Also, Reed and the crew can launch the parachutes directly into the tornado with the cannons, you can't do that with ballons. Not only will the ballons pop under the enormous amount of pressure, you take a risk of the ballons being popped by debris.
i doubt a piece of wood would come a perfect angle to pierce through the door because of the small surface area it would have exposed for the wind to blow on. So this test was probably more than enough to show you can stand up to small debri.
@JulianOnBass That is not correct. It is enough for the probe to get into the outer layer of the tornado, because the inflow and upward motion is strong enough to just suck the probe in.
@slapaho087 Actually, TIV's body armor is made of different layers of material, only the flaps are solid metal and @D0ublezer0x you can't just say that the TIV isn't bada** looking (both of them) and who cares that it leaks, the turret is open anyway for the camera.
@D0ublezer0x Yeah we've never seen the TVN team getting soaked INSIDE their vehicle. Ever notice the last time the first TIV was in Stormchasers? That beast was a rust bucket.
Reed, don't you think it's time to give up wearing sandals? It doesn't seem appropriate for navigating debris fields and crossing downed power lines and climbing into destroyed houses.
the chutes dont look like they go high enough. you need like a potato gun and have them in some kind of capsule that you can shoot 3x as far as that and have the capsules open when they start to fall back down to earth.
Imagine if that was TiV 2

Yous tried a Fancy Cannon System and in the past RC Planes to get probes into a tornado. Give My simple idea a try! LOL

Poor men seem not to think before they write...
the probes need to be shot in the tornado, a balloon will either pop or swept away to nowhere

the air cannons dont seem to be too effective in my opinion u have to be IN the tornado otherwise they will just fall to the ground.

@raemondluz1 they did the same test shooting at the TIV's windows. TIV also withstood winds that blew the Dominator away (literally) on MythBusters

@167tyler Maybe...but the chutes will follow the inflow bands of a tornado...so they may stay airbourne much longer than when they test it.
