Mytran Wars another to avoid. But there is some hope for you La pucelle Ragnorak is the closest you are likely to get to Disgaea psp, this is Disgaea's sister if you will.

It may be released for pal and ntsc territories. But until then you have Disgaea and you can get Jeanne D'arc to tie you over. La pucelle is a great game though. I think Disgaea was built on it's engine, it even shares some of the same graphics ad sounds, despite that it is still unique.

There was a wild arms game which was turn based for PSP only but that wasn't exactly great, I tried to get into it and spent a lot of time but it didn't measure up, best to avoid that one. Then there is generation of chaos not bad, convoluted as you play 3 armies in turn based, very slow you need to turn off the animation or PSP becomes snail like. It eats your time, I never finished it. Field Commander is a great game for turn based play, addictive and just the right length

Jeanne d'Arc is a very good game, nice graphics and animated cut scenes, it's probably your best bet. It's the closest to Stella Deus you can get to on psp and quite similar in gameplay. I have a 60gb PS3 so I can play all the turn based material released on that, it's a great investment. What with Agarest, and Cross Edge being available soon, and the new Vandal Hearts game as a down-loadable. The PSP is short changed for that kind of game. Jeanne D'arc is a PSP only so thats ok.

How do I open the catacombs of trial past level 50? I can't find any decent concise info on how to do it. Any help would be appreciated. I think it has something to do with a quest but that's all I know.

In the Uk Disgaea 2 on psp is worth more than FFT psp, so in the long run it is a good investment, it is a much sought after game here. You can pick up fft for approx £8 but Disgaea is closer to £20. It would sell well on e-bay. Stick with it as the further you progress the more you realize you can do so much more, the customization is deep. Leveling up items can be fun, and reincarnating to get powerful, crazy powerful.Lol I am addicted.

I was just playing Disgaea 2 coincidentally. I would have to say Disgaea is my fav. I like all kinds of turn based games Jeanne d'arc on psp Vandal hearts 1 and 2. Fallout tactics. But disgaea is my thing along with phantom brave, makai kingdom, la pucelle, they all have a deeper gameplay, but can take up too much time, really it is up to you how far you want to take the game. FFT had good animation sequences and amazing dialogue on psp, it was probably the best version...too long though.

Anyone have any recommendations for tactical rpgs? My favorite games ever are Shining Force, Vandal Hearts, Final Fantasy Tactics. Looking for turn based, like Front Mission 4, not the Shining Force 3 type gameplay. Someone recommended Disgaea 3 but its a little too kiddy for me. Thanks.

Stella Deus is alright, but ran into the same prob as just about everyone else. You level up in the catacombs and the story battles become too easy.

i own them all but i still think it's hard to play in long sittings.

@vidiot67 So true! Totally agree. Disgaea is one of the best srpgs around but a part of me doesn't like it for the same reason. I find it a little lame and awkward at moments. But the customization options and gameplay features are beast! Some of those others things... . .not so much.

Disgaea 3 along with it's prequels are deep and some of the most complex and engrossing gameplay you can find. It's no more 'kiddy' than the games you mention, I am 37 and play these games for the strategy and you can't get much better than disgaea for deeply addictive gameplay. But the addiction factor might be a problem, it takes up so much time lol.

This is a great game. I think the voice acting is pretty decent in this game. Playing this game is giving me the chills just like when I played Vandal Hearts back in the day. So far, this game is gold. I am doing a video playthrough of it atm :p

NOW there's no customization in FFT or TA you cant custumize them, You can only change jobs! changing jobs is not custumizing them! if it is Fire emblem can change job too to higher class like thief to assasin. So it means FE is custumizable too like NIS games? No!!!

lol, FFT and TA are both far FAR better than Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem may have strategy in the battles, I won't take that away from it, but I love customizing characters, and FFT has lots more of that.

Also Disgaea and the other Nippon Ichi games are way better than Fire Emblem because of the customization.

LOL changing job is customization now?, can you change their color? their faces? their names other than hero? Final Fantasy 5 has LOTS more jobs than FFTA2 but they never called that customization.

And FFTA2 has a short MAIN story, the only thing that you will play it for a LONG time is for 400 side quest from the pub

how long is it? does it have good replay value? are there side quests? are there multiple endings? can u replay levels? how many diff characters can u get? what weapons can u get? are the levels unique or are the same every time is there good customization? does changing your armour change your appearance or not? can u play after you have beaten it or is it over when the credits start? can u have multiple save slots or just one?
