There will never be another Harry. I grew up listening to Whitey and Harry and when they passed away it was almost like losing a member of the family. Glad we had them for the years we did.

Love Harry, but I must say I enjoyed listening to Scott Franzke and Larry Anderson more than Harry in his later years. Franz and Anderson will go down as two of the greats
Not that Scott and Larry won't be around for a lot of years. They're fantastic, and 30 years from now, we may have the same feeling for them that we do for Harry and Whitey.
this is why we stuck around after huge wins like this it just wont be the same without Harry the K there in September and October if we get there again the rallies wont be the same either Harrys the K's wont be the same (especially since he was known to ALWAYS walk through there before games to see the fans ) but yea its hard to hear this song I sometimes dont wanan hear this song like Larry Anderson who apparently cant hear it without crying his eyes out and I feel the same way sometimes
R. I. P. Harry Kalas the voice of the phillies i was just at the game today and when they hit homers i heard "that ball is outa here" i'll miss you Harry
Harry was Philadelphia - with all his energy and passion, he was our voice!! Hearing him singing "High Hopes" puts tears in my eyes. Phillies' fans across the country were SO very luck y to have Harry!! Goodbye to a baseball legend.
Harry Kalas was a GREAT MAN, somehow incredibly, even greater than he was an announcer, and that is saying A WHOLE LOT. What an incredibly sad week this has been. I was at the Memorial Service today, it was very emotional. It was done with class by the Phillies, in this very difficult circumstance. You could just feel the overwhelming love for this wonderful kind-hearted man, from those who were in attendance, to honor him. RIP Harry. Phils will NEVER be the same. We miss you so much already.
Last season, seemed as though the Phillies had some good mojo when they needed it. Balls taking the right bounces, clutch hitting, winds shifting....all culminating in the World Series. Could Asburn and the baseball "gods known of this sad passing then? We love you, Harry. Ain't EVER going to be the same.
I agree he didn't look good at all this year. But replaced???? You've got to be kidding me. He'll never be replaced. I just hope they put Frazke on TV as the play by play guy instead of Tom McCarthy.
botzaro00 ur honestly stupid and dont no nothin about announcers and philly announcers at that, joe buck blows he hates all the teams and when the phils won u could hear the dissapointment... but u no what? i listened to harry call it and he called it rite with true philly passion and true philly excitment hes a philadelphian at heart and now dead he is philly he was philly Harry Kalas is the greatest announcer to ever exsist... Harry Kalas R.I.P. i love u and so does philly
I cant believe this thread. And the people in St. Loius are the "best" most caring fans in the country. Have some damn respect. This has nothing to do with the Phillies and stinking cardinals. Harry was a better person than announcer. Are you serious? No class. I invite you to wear your ozzi smith jersey to a phils cards game this year. You know what? Harry wouldnt want me to woop your ass. Grow up and have some respect. Joe Buck would not exist without Harry.

KALAS SUCKED!!!greatest announcer ever!!! for what saying outta here??he sucked!!! he was a homer he rooted for the phillies and he was a announcer!!!people outside of philly pay for the MLB package and dont want to listen to a guy rooting!! and announcing!! AND HIS VOICE WAS ANNOYING
Once again, let me remind you, you worthless piece of filth, that Kalas was a hometown announcer, every team has them, every city has them for various sports. What team do you like? Because I bet they have announcers that root.
I'm not big on youtube feuds, but you're a fucking idiot, plain and simple. Misinformed, arrogant, and disrespectful. I suggest jumping in front of the next bus that swings by.
It is "our announcer does not root". How many times are you going to talk about him being born in Chicago? Where did you go to skool? You dont play for the Cards either, so don't say "we". If I was the Cardinal's announcer, I wouldnt "root" either.
Don't forget that Benjamin Franklin (considered one of the greatest Philadelphians of all time) was born and raised in Boston!
If someone moves here and wins our hearts, he becomes a Philadelphian as if he lived here all his life. Most retired Flyers hockey players still live in the area.
Also, the Phillies won the 2008 season series vs. the Cards 5-4, so the Cards don't own the Phils.
By the way, my late aunt, an life-long avid Cardinals fan, lived in O'Fallon, MO.
No shit he rooted for the Phils, he was a Philadelphia announcer. At least he wasn't like some of the national TV baseball and football announcers who clearly root for certain teams. i.e Joe Buck, Chris Collinsworth. Whoever a Philly team played, those idiots rooted for the other team.THEY SUCK!!! Harry the K will go down as one of the best announcers ever!
first off, joe buck is possibly the worst announcer in professional sports and he works for FOX. so he is not allowed to root yet he still does. every game the cards play in he is talking them up. Harry Kalas worked for the PHILLIES, meaning he was supposed to root for the Phillies. Harry Caray and Jack Buck rooted for the Cardinals but i dont hear you saying shit about that.
harry had no qualms about critizing the phils when they were doing bad, blew a lead, ect. you should probably not talk about shit when you are out of you element, i'm assuming as a cards fan you aren't too familar with the phillies announcer.
You just don't get it. Kalas was paid by the PHILLIES, not MLB, fucking twat. You say your hometown Cards announcer doesn't root? That's because he has nothing to root for, and I don't really give a rat's ass where he was born, because he's worked as a PHILLIES announcer since 1971, so you can take your dick if you can find it and fuck yourself.
Kalas is a legend, you're an attention whore, are you happy now that everyone's posting to you?
Regarding who was Harry Kalas' employer, I have a card sent to me by Harry back in November 2002, written in its entirety in his own hand, which states in part:
"My employers (the Phillies) suggested that I stay out of the mix in the naming of the new ballpark."
I had asked for Harry's help in getting the ballpark now known as Citizens Bank Park named in honor of Richie Ashburn. Thus my screen name!
that was the greatest game ever..no one wanted to leave. people stayed there for hours and hours. and the players were still there with them..how awesome was that 2007 clincher, god damn.
I agree as a Phillies fan...it was a long time waiting for that one. The excitement was building the whole game from the first moment they posted the Mets score. The 2008 clincer was great too, but no match. I may think differently if I was at Game 5b.
this video honestly brought tears to my eyes. still so hard accepting we'll never be able to listen to his beautiful, soothing voice ever again.
i definitely think we should sing high hopes during the 7th inning stretch. they should also play him saying "this ball is outtttttta hereee!!" after each homerun. there's no better way to make the call than with harry.
Cub fans sing "take me out to the ball game" every 7th inning stretch at Wrigley, now us Phillies fans MUST sing "HIGH HOPES" every home game during the 7th. LET THE TRADITION START FRIDAY NIGHT! GOD BLESS HARRY!
they worked him to death? what the fuck are you talking about. Harry did what he loved doing, he spent every day with the team, like he was a part of it. You mean to tell me they forced him to sing high hopes? You are a fucking moron. Nobody worked him to death, he died doing what he loved.
Mandatory retirement?!! What the hell are you taking about? He was still good at his craft and he WANTED to stay. The job didn't kill him, moron. It kept him going since he still absolutely loved what he had been doing for the last 40+ years.
Harry the K wil never,EVER be replaced. We lost a treasure on 4/13/09.
i can't believe some of the ridiculous comments on here. harry was a great man and was great at what he did. he died doing what he loved and he wouldn't have it any other way. he loved the game so much that he wouldn't take a break from it even though he was starting to get ill. philadelphia will greatly miss him. he was everyone's friend. RIP Harry.
there a lot of ignorant mother &&&&ers out there with no f&&&&&&in class you know and i know and people with a brain know that Harry Kalas was awesome and i am thankful for him
you poor man. keep your mouth shut about a legend. coming on to a forum and bashing someone after they have passed away is sheer stupidity and shows great ignorance. wow the class you possess is just pitiful. i hope you burn in hell.
To erichg153, you just don't get it. This isn't the heartless Eagles organization, dispatching Brian Dawkins after 13 great seasons. No, Harry WANTED to stay on, was in the third year of a three year contract. I'm sure the Phils, which felt like family to him(and vice-versa)would have let him step away if HE wanted to for health reasons. He never let on about how he was feeling, just humbly said,"feeling better every day". You must be a stinkin' METS fan, so there's no reasoning with ya.
first off....the phillies offered harry kalas time off, and a vin skully type schedule where he would call some games, but the man said no!!!!
in spring training he started to get a little ill and the man still wanted to call the phillies this season, thats how much he loved our fightin phils! so when did the phillies work him to death?...
Philly lost their best friend for the past 38 yrs! Besides being a great announcer, he was truly a fantastic human being! RIP Harry! We will miss you Pal & you will never be forgotten!
u shuld reread this comment and say to urself.. this is really not the time n place to bash the phillies n im a disgrace for posting this comment. just pay respect to the man..n u post ur untasteful comment on another video.
As Larry Anderson said....Im not sure I ever want to hear this song again. But I will because I love Harry. GOD BLESS YOU Harry, Whitey is keeping the Celebre's pizza warm for you. Thank you and RIP.
The pharse "That ball is outta here" will forever be etched into my memory. I can never listen to a Philles game the same way again. RIP Harry, you had a hell of a life.
A great broadcaster and an even better human being has passed today. I came by to pay my respects and send condolences to his family, and to his Philadelphia and baseball families -- he was beloved.
For Philadelphians, there was no other voice for baseball. It's impossible to think of the Phillies without thinking of Harry Kalas. I was there as the Phillies marched down Broad Street last year and Harry got a bigger reaction than any of the players. Watching baseball simply won't be the same without him.
As an A's fan, and my dad is from philadelphia I can relate when Bill King passed away in 2005. RIP HARRY THE K you were a class act , a great voice, besides philadelphia missing you the whole country will miss you.
I am now listening to the 4th inning without my voice. I'm opening crying here at work and i don't care. Harry Kalas was my friend and most of all my Family, I honestly don't know if I can EVER watch or listen to anonther Phillies game without him. i miss you harry. RIP HARRY KALAS
As Harry always said...."YOU ARE THE MAN", Harry "YOU" are the man. God bless you forever. You and Whitey can get all those celebre's pizza's you want now. I LOVE YOU. RIP
Wow, I miss this man!

A great broadcaster and an even better human being has passed today. I came by to pay my respects and send condolences to his family, and to his Philadelphia and baseball families -- he was beloved.
SnoreBear44 2 years ago
For Philadelphians, there was no other voice for baseball. It's impossible to think of the Phillies without thinking of Harry Kalas. I was there as the Phillies marched down Broad Street last year and Harry got a bigger reaction than any of the players. Watching baseball simply won't be the same without him.
