I adore Martinu and I think that its a travesty that his music is hardly heard in the UK .All these concert promoters and the BBC are interested in is dumbing down music and playing the top pops. Real genius like Martinu doesn't get airtime. Its so sad that these institutions are managed by morons.

great i love Matinu. his flute sonata ive played with a flautist for her diploma very hard rythms in the last movement. harder than hindemith. :p

Both your u-tube videos of this piece show how this marvellous work can be approached - the first has the raw energy and in the second the energy has been more refined (energetic in effect nevertheless!)and I think you have a marvellous way of coaxing tone out of your instrument. The more I listen to this late piece the more heart I hear in it.
